EBay madness

Good day all

I consider myself inept at painting, but the DMU looks as if the masking tape wasn't applied properly.

I have produced better than that, and I'm inept at painting.

If one ignores the paint finish, I don't think it is starting at a ridiculous price. I won't be bidding as it's far too modern for me.

However, the description makes me want to vomit.

Ah yes. "pre-loved" and "lubrication/service". I see what you mean.

It looks quite nice in the video. The livery suits it and the fiction bubble car is pretty cute. I could imagine this rolling into Morecambe when the line still had the grand station opposite the hotel.

Here's another from the "optimistic/too little research" category/brigade! Has THREE that are BIN for about 50 quid, would be fine if they were the super-details LIT variety...since they're NOT, will probably wonder why they aren't selling for that.

However, since the description notes

"Up for sale is this exquisitely designed, detailed and fabricated passenger car.  Model has window curtains, overhead illumination plus illuminated table lamps inside. This model is sold out at international model train dealers for some time and no longer available." may instead have some buyer(s) that return the item as "not as described"!

Apparently the seller did a search for Pullman/Cygnus and decided they ALL have lighting and priced it accordingly. Pity they didn't try it on a layout or check that the wheels (SHOWN IN A PHOTO) might actually conduct necessary power, last time I checked plastic isn't a good conductor :jester:

Special white conducting paint on the wheels. maybe?

I like the HO/OO bit though.

Presumably also, if he gets the solid brass turned table lamps hot enough with a blow lamp he might get a glow out of them too.

^^

Is any one else getting less than accurate pictures when they scroll down on the above item or have I caught something at this end?

Nope, I can see a tacky porcelain figurine, stockings and some cushions.  :jester:

It's not you, it's a crappy ad in general. Seen this guy selling some "OO/HO" Hornby stuff before and they leave the weird pictures of other in the bottom of their apparently generic post!

That is a very rare item!

K's body on a Wrenn/Dublo chassis. Sold by Wrenn.

Hardly madness to a Wrenn Collector

Even better if it was W2302A

Here we go again from Cartmel! ...mega rare apparantly (whatever that's supposed to mean!)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KIT-BUILTMODEL-LMS-No-4989-2-6-0-0-6-2-BEYER-GARRATT-LOCO-MEGA-RARE-/400596425040?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item5d45685950

BTW it's being sold as a static model! For £150 less I could have a lovely Heljan version.

....which might be equally static given the volume of seizures but at least you'd be £150 better off....  :jester:

I'm intrigued by the description of Ks and Nu-Cast as "finescale kit specialists". Better than much of the r-t-r of the time I'll grant, but finescale....?

That would be the name of the locomotive... as in the "Mega Rare" heading the "Mintinbox Express" battling towards Kitbuilth Station through unseasonally heavy weathering.

The continuing saga of Peyton Place Reading

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vintage-Hornby-train-set-joblot-loft-find-/261875249633?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3cf8fb31e1

Regular viewers and listeners will recall this guy had listed this loft find at least 3 times and each time had refused to sell, and relisted.  His ebay score was 2 and about 65pct.  In the words of Britney Spears, oops he's done it again.   Score now 1, and about 55pct.  Even gosturde and the magical kingdom of Cartmel manage to keep high scores.  Shall we see out first negative score on here?  Only 2 more cycles.......

Update from another forum -

"This errant bidder has now had his butt kicked. Actions taken may not be immediately apparent but eBay has responded that the seller has made a mockery of eBay's reserve pricing policy and will take action against him with possible suspension or cancellation of his membership. EBay take a dim view of this seller's relistings"

He has 4 negatives from 4 "sales" but 7 positives from 7 buys.

Surely If he hadn't purchased anything he would have a 0% score!

Maybe that's a good way to boost your score. buy lots of very cheap items and pay up straight away.

End up with a 100% score then start selling, the odd red wouldn't show up so obviously! :nono:

Not railway related but:

You can buy this squirrel baffle for £14.99: (from many garden centres)

http://www.gardmanwildbirdcare.co.uk/products/feeders

Or you can buy it as an e-bay bargain for the knock down price of £76:17:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gardman-Universal-Squirrel-Baffle-/231549384649

(It must be a bargain as it includes free economy delivery!)

Keith

EDIT there are several high price "offers" for these on e-bay with some claiming to have actually sold some!
