Darwin Awards anyone? JD From inside the box, it looks like a strip of wood is protecting the mains side. Exactly what the tape does, isn't clear, nor why the lid should be open when in use? Why two mains plugs are needed seems to be a waste. The all important rear of the box where the cable goes in, isn't shown. Is there a proper cable clamp to secure the mains lead? Note the answer to the question, says it might not be Gaugemaster, so is it or not?
Il Grifone
I like the bit in the 08 add of: just needs a bit of oil as it runs a little slow I'm not quite sure where the oil needs applying to make it faster... I don't think oil affects the gear ratio Oil does affect the friction, which tends to slow things down. More likely, it's crud on the axles etc. gluing them up or a duff motor. But then, 08s don't go very fast anyway! The Gaiety thing has a non original chassis (it looks like the sort of horror K's used to supply), so technically it's code 3', but the price is rather more than a 'MIB code 1' example would be worth - Say £15-20? Darwin Awards anyone? JD Why does the Dymotape on the lid state "LEAVE BOX OPEN WHEN IN USE"? This death trap (inquisitive fingers can stll reach live terminals contrary to safety regulations) should definitely only be used with the lid closed (and preferably sealed or locked shut). I assume the idea is to provide ventilation, but this should be by means of holes drilled in the box. I would have preferred an earthed metal case myself. An RCD wouldn't hurt either. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Residual-current_device
cromptonnut
Why does the Dymotape on the lid state "LEAVE BOX OPEN WHEN IN USE"? Presumably to aid airflow and stop overheating - the sort of thing that ventilation and fans ought to cover.

If Bachmann adverts from 'old delapidated periodicals' are worth just shy of £6 each, with all the old model rails, railway modellers and Hornby mags ive got im loaded! The price asked is around the value of the complete magazine! If wanted, Meccano Magazines are accessible on the internet for free..... http://meccano.magazines.free.fr/ Presumably to aid airflow and stop overheating - the sort of thing that ventilation and fans ought to cover. I did say that. Ventilation is probably not necessary with transformers running below their maximum rating in any case.

Its unbelievable what s**t some people will sell. No, the term is OFFER to sell. If anyone actually buys it, they're the ones with a problem, that I wish I had - namely more money than sense and the latter is considered by SWMBO to be debatable! FWIW, this sort of thing HAS been a topic of discussion here.

Although to be fair, it does have a realistic starting price.

Neil Do you think he originally only had two Triang class 08's that he kept in his shed for weeks but didn't realise that one was male and the other was female - now looking at the pictures he appears to have an infestation problem!! I think he should have had their motors disconnected at an early age and this would never have happened!
