The Fall & Rise of the 60's ( was The End of the Tugs?)

Tell all!!!! ;)

I only have rumours so don't want to tell :P

The steel traffic is up for renewal soon, and maybe any company tendering for this might have need for some grunty locos (allegedly) - as I said these things are rumours and only become fact when they actually happen, too much frothing makes people need to see the Dr (s) to stop their Barbies getting in a spin ;)

60071 was on it's way to Hartlepool. It should be working back to Wales overnight snow permitting.

After an absence of a couple of years the 60's are becoming a common site in Tees yard again. 60071/96 both becoming regular visitors. Not quite the end yet....

It may be the end of the 60s afterall...

On WNXX.com there is 'idle speculation' on the numbering for a further class 70 order from another operator-could DBS be looking into buying some of these powerful locos to replace the remaining(and declining) class 60s??

May be 2011 could see a order for around 20 of these locos to work core flows like fuel and coal diagrams?

I hope not though :(

There are also two UP ballast trains Westbury to Didcot

Woodboro @ 13/08 (66171 & JLA's) and 14/44 (no traction yet)

I noticed this aswell, Hopefully its just WNXX "thinking out loud", afterall DBS have 60007 due for a "pioneer overhaul" and if all goes well others could be worked on, no doubt it will set DBS back a bit but not as much as buying new loco's or re-enginging would.

60007 is still shown at Toton in Pool WNXX with an "expected ok" date of "31/12" - this is TOPS speak for we don't know yet or have no intention of it being OK. Will keep an eye on it - Pool WC is still at 17 locos

60071 was a complete blow-out yesterday despite arriving Theale on time, it didn't leave until in was almost dark (hours late). Still the two Up 66 hauled ballasts made up for the waiting in the cold - yeah right  !!

Not a subject I can get too emotional about in their own right, but I certainly can in their significance as the last upholder of the great British tradition of locomotive manufacture, and for this reason I have endeavoured to capture a few on my travels. Apologies for lousy Nokia E71 quality chaps.

The original version of that post (since edited) made a comment about the DBS steels contract being up for renewal and then something about "throwing their barbies out of the pram" or similar so I assumed that it was implying that GBRf might get it and need class 70s to haul it (possibly handing back some of the 66s still in First barbie livery). It's probably just froth though.

60059 is dead again, at the moment :(

Thanks for that - tug 71 is my target too for the day, along with the Bristol bins and whatever else is about. Still, at least there is some snow on the ground today  unlike Saturday's will it - won't it moments

cheers
