Guest B Exam

The gardens at each of station are taking shape with the cast concrete walling looking just the thing and the obligatory green wire mesh stuff on the platform side....

No fishpond and fountain....?

Still looks cracking in the photos.

On another note, the Lisboa paintshop has been hard at work this week with the scratchbuilt Asti gaining a coat of primer! Just needs a few buckets of filler to get it looking good for the top coat of orange and chocolate.

Village taking shape....all we need now is Malcolm to be a little less "Alentejano" in his building speed. Then add barking dogs and cicada noise and it will be spot on. Passing moped noise, 2 stroke oil smell.....you know how it goes?

Yes, the industry standard barking dog(s)...

You know the drill.... Switch the hotel room light off when you go to bed and the local pack of dogs start barking... Switch the light back on and the dogs go quiet....

Usually happens when I stop in the Residencial Gameiro in Entroncamento....

Anyway enough wibble about dogs, back to the latest photos, looking even better now with the village taking shape. Just need some roofs...

post-657-0-38760300-1476632778_thumb.jpgLack of posting doesn't mean lack of action. One of our number a work weary GD item (outbased in Lisbon) has become a father and his Dad has been busy getting road surface done on far right hand end of layout . The back scene has arrived and looks suitably nice (but how to attcah it?) Meanwhile we have TWO invites for shows (one in North East one in Manchester area) which we have tentatively accepted!

First tentative play with backscene . The image is a giant 'stitch together' of about 50 or 60 separate images which Chris Nevard tweaked and 'washed out' a little for us to create a distance feeling. It is printed onto a vinyl surface and then taped onto back scene. There will be some twiddling to disguise the break from scenic to back scene but we are happy with the 'look'! All we need now is 'Cicada and crickets noise' on a tape loop and a load of really hot heat lamps aiming at the audience?

The second section of the 'Monsarraz' back drop has been added and as there are no buildings in the shot it looks a bit sparse, with them there looks very effective. Bear with us. Log sidings taking shape at front right. We will have logs front right. Sand , ballast, cement and grain to the left .... and a headshunt/general fiddling siding so we can feed and shunt all the freight. We have also provisonally agreed to give the layout its first run out (near to home) at RailEx North East next july 2017. Will confirm that when it has been confirmed?

Got down to Whickham for a short while to measure up for the lighting rig. We placed the building in position on boards 2 and 3 and took few photos with a better phone camera. Looking good Malcolm....keep up the good work! The car selection represents 3 of the members in form of 'dream car' Bruce's Jag 'had one' Jim's Cinque and 'had one' my Scirocco

A bumper selection of photos showing the latest progress.

The remainder of the backscene has now been added, giving an idea of how this blends in with the cement and grain terminals. The silo board needs all the buildings fixed in place, once that's done a bit of detailing can follow, which includes lots of cement bags on the hard standing, fork lift truck, a few people, the pile of ballast finished off and a loader installed with its bucket buried in ballast.

Storks on top of grain silo, naturally...

Concrete and telegraph poles installed with wires and there should be a couple of flood lights here and there too. Have we got anything suitable - need to find something!

Elsewhere, the first cottage behind the station is now getting attention. It will have creepy vine thing on the wooden spars, various flower pots along the street wall. I need to sort out some photos power box/water meter thingies on the house walls, plus the inevitable telegraph poles and wires all around.

The two end boards are now inside the workshop (my old bedroom!) so both can be worked on at the same time - the centre board having been essentially finished.

Also acquired of late is a kit by Modelismo Artesenal, a small Portuguese producer, who have done a CP Dresine - Nice one piece body, goes on a separate underframe and inside frame, with brass/etched details, flush glazing, transfers, motor and wheels. All for around 100 quid. One for the workbench for 2017...

And another selection of images from progress - including the local store, Carvalho's. And for those who know these things, the spelling mistake has been noticed. Just can't get the staff...

I bet you thought "R"s ?

Cheers,

Mick

Bungalow and HUGE Portuguese style outdoor BBQ now installed at the modern bungalow. Friends of the late Graham Garnell of PTG fame will recognise said cooking area from innebriated lunches of yore! Starting to 'look hotter' too. Next big task is lighting rigs.

Exciting News from the land of sun port and pork ribs..... Sud Express have announced the Alsthom 1900 1930 class diesel. These are the French 'broken nose' diesel beasts that had to be 'de-silenced' after over heating issues and have recently spread their net further north. They are outwardly quite similar to SNCF 72000 diesels. http://webrails.tv/tv/?p=27243

Looks really good, captures Portugal as I remember it in the late 90's. Do you have any of 19xx Alstoms?

They have just been announced by Sud Express along with the Sorefame fresh air coaching stock. All in plastic so 'relatively' affordable?
