RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted February 10, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 10, 2013 I'm sure it's there somewhere, should be half-sunk in the cut.... It spent quite a lot of today riding up and down the layout in and on various wagons, it is now on it's travels again...
iL Dottore
Thanks Nick, That looks about right. So Flemish stretcher bond it is... Now the big money question is (given that I am creating masters for casting resin components (where each section of the front framed by a buttress is a component]), are the SEF embossed sheets straight enough to allow me to cut different types of SEF brick bond sheets into neat strips that will allow me to build up the right bond fairly easily? iD
RMweb Premium Jason T Posted February 10, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 10, 2013 Question of the weekend, which I tried hard not to laugh out loud about, was regarding Flavio's mock-ups "Are they kits, as I can see Flemish Bond and 6' Man written on them. Are they the parts of the kit that you have to fit?" What a fantastic weekend. Operating BCB on it's maiden voyage, meeting up with all involved, drinking the night away, John's stories (doing a Ronnie Corbett, as Damian put it) and to top it all off, getting something rather special run on the layout which made Tim E very happy. Damian's face was a picture when he saw what was coming down the layout P.s. thanks for everything guys
Popular Post Andy Y
Not long got back in and the magical mystery tour will still be out trying to find people's garages that have got room for BCB boards and boxes on its travels. Not only did the team put in a massive amount of effort over the last weeks in the run up to the show but they were also stars over the weekend. Spams was visibly happy to find he's only got two possible hours of scenic work left. I hope the team do feel justifiably proud of their efforts and I was delighted for them to hear (and see on here) the feedback they were getting. Of course there were a few glitches and a desire to get more done but I really hope they can relax a little now having got the debut out of the way. Thanks and a large amount of respect are due to Stubby, Sandside and Wurzelforever for joining in the fun and helping the guys out allowing them a bit of a breather and wander this morning; everything went well in their capable hands and I'm sure they'll be warmly welcomed at future outings. Thank you to the other members of this community who've pitched in and helped out and been able to enjoy the participation, I have to say Arthur's YE is a little star and with a little exploration of its DCC idiosyncracies should prove to be a popular member of the fleet. Yes, Tina is back on her travels and was last seen on the Sutton Coldfield to Newton Abbot relief Motorail service whence it came, if a little wetter. Right, time for tea. Everyone at Warners is delighted with the project and it's certainly exceeded the initial expectations of what a project layout could be. Well done everyone!

Well done everyone! I'm so glad that this has got together - and Warners' reaction. The team is really a team. It really exemplifies what Andy has created - a community. And now for something I'm sure the team don't want to hear just yet: WHAT'S NEXT, LADS?
Popular Post Fay Singpoint
For 8 months work, BCB is certainly an impressive layout which the the participants should be proud of. Many thanks to "OldGringo" for taking the time to explain some of the development and construction issues as i hadn't realised that the layout is longer than was originally planned. From all accounts the Sunday was a lot quieter than the Saturday so I had plenty of opportunity to view the layout. The overall presentation of the layout is very professional. The backscene.. Very good use of land contours. The backscene (again) I wonder who this could be???? Decent lighting. I took this photo for ideas for my layout. Behind the scenes.. All in all, some excellent modelling. Well done and looking forward to seeing it again at either Ally Pally or Peterborough.

RMweb Gold SHMD Posted February 10, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 10, 2013 I love this layout. It's not just that I've “followed it”, it is that I feel involved! I look at the pictures, and sub-consciously, I know the history behind buildings, contours, bridges, trials and tribulations etcetera! Well done to all. Kev. (I was unable to visit, this time, but rest assure – I will!)
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted February 10, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 10, 2013 I saw the BCB layout yesterday and was impressed with it. Supprised at the progress, a lot further than I had expected. Glad to see no cliche, like A bus on the bridge - TWO ! Well done guys. Merf. Cheers Merf - we deliberately put the two buses there - just to be a bit playful ;-p

It really exemplifies what Andy has created - a community. And now for something I'm sure the team don't want to hear just yet: WHAT'S NEXT, LADS? Not long back from a fantastic weekend in Donny. Folk can probably tel from the photos taken over the weekend we were all a bit tired from burning barrel-loads of midnight oil. John, Mark and the van are still going making the final deliveries of BCB parts to houses across the Midlands and it's snowing, so for them the night is still young! We've all had a chance to talk whilst breaking down the layout and packing away and this has been a very special show for us. There's often a lot of negativity about forums and chat rooms etc and every now and then some of the goings-on on here support that view. However, what this project has proven is that a community, working together, can achieve a great deal of good. Having seen the layout come together for the first time on Friday evening, and various parts arrive from various members from across the country, I'm completely bowled over by how supportive and generous folk on here have been. So many of the community have freely given time, knowledge and skill to create something beyond what we could have achieved on our own. It was fantastic too to have so many of the contributors come and see us over the weekend and have a play on the fledgling BCB and see what they have done in context to the rest of the project. Stuart made a special journey all the way from deepest, darkest Cornwall and brought with him a Cornish cream tea and a box with his advertising hoardings in. Paul brought over another box full of vehicles (more roads required!) Eric arrived with Charlie's Cabin - small but perfectly formed, ready to be set into the ground at the end of the sidings. Jason came up on the Saturday and we managed to convince him he could and should stay over. Loads of folk from here have had a good look around, behind and under the layout and Stu, Paul and Jason spent a considerable time operating - giving us time to look at the layout and work out the next steps in completing it. Strange how it felt we'd known a lot of folk for ages! My main memories from this weekend will be: 1. Seeing the huge pile of 'stuff' fill the van we hired - bringing home just how much had been created in such a short time. 2. Seeing the layout up together for the first time and realising just how BIG it is. 3. Seeing Andy York's backscene being hung to the rear of the layout and how it transformed the 'look' of the scene. 4, The relief that we'd not let anyone down when it was all set up and trains started rolling 5. A massive sense of comradeship with the folk that have helped us and those that have been following events on here. 6. The number of times people watching asked about the backscene - how was it done, where was it, where are the joins 7. The shock on many seasoned modeller's faces when we mentioned this wasn't a club layout, was only started 8 months ago and was built in houses all across the North and East Midlands. 8. Feeling absolutely tired out! A big thank you to Andy Y and Warners for giving us the opportunity to do this. Still lots to do, structures to finish, details to add, colours to harmonise and gremlins to tame - but hey, early days. Operationally, it took until about midday on Saturday and a fair amount of trial and error to work out how best to communicate loco addresses / direction over the length of the layout - more on that after some sleep. Glad people liked it! What's next??? Night, night.
Popular Post Timara
I have to say I was rather blown away by BCB, having now seen it in the flesh. A real credit to all involved and certainly a hefty inspiration to others (myself included). The trackwork in particular is very fine indeed. At the end today (Sunday), an interloper was seen on the layout, by request from one or two of the group. I have to admit it did look rather too well at home (and I very nearly didn't get to keep it!).... I'm looking forward to seeing it again next month at Ally Pally now!

mozzer models
Like this? flemish-stretcher.jpg These are both variations on Flemish Stretcher Bond. It uses single courses of Flemish bond (alternating headers and stretchers) to add some cross bonding to ordinary stretcher bond. The Flemish courses are added at regular intervals so there could be two, three, four courses of stretchers between each. Nick When on my YTS back in the 80's it was alway odd No's of courese stretcher bond between the flemish coures

I'd just like to say thanks for letting me have a play (building bits and operating) it's been one of the best exhibitions I've operated at, mainly because it's not my layout and I didn't need to worry about fixing it if it suddenly stopped!

Indeed; Geoff's the relatively unsung hero behind making sure everything ran and as well as it did over the weekend. He's got some more checks and adjustments he still wants to do. However I'll try and bag the most unusual cop of the day. All this malarkey will might stop when the full range of locos, stock and workings are put together.

iL Dottore
I must confess that I was VERY disappointed in the BCB layout... inasmuch as I was unable to fly in to Doncaster to join the crew on its' first outing Perhaps one day I will be in the right place at the right time to join the team on a BCB outing (and I will be very happy to help out as well) ... 7. The shock on many seasoned modeller's faces when we mentioned this wasn't a club layout, was only started 8 months ago and was built in houses all across the North and East Midlands... And hopefully, at the next BCB outing you'll be able to add "and specially imported from Switzerland" to that list! For a "work in progress" it looks remarkably complete, especially given that I've been to exhibitions with layouts that are "work in progress" and that have been so for a number of years (sic) and which are still mostly bare boards with track. The layout looks really impressive, über realistisch indeed. The only jarring notes are the two white pimples that are disfiguring the otherwise superb scenics... I am hoping that will be corrected soon??? As 2ManySpams wrote, this layout really shows what can be done by dedicated modellers sharing a common purpose. So, well done all. iD As Private Eye would say "Trebles all round".
