I had a fantastic day. Didn't get there until 12:30 and because I was so busy chatting to people (new faces and people I've met before), I didn't actually get chance to see all the layouts, stands, etc!

Many thanks to Andy and his team for putting on such a fantastic event (and for free; I really wasn't expecting free food, etc), to Axelcounter for the info on Bacup (book, DVD, photos - you are a star mate), to ChrisF for his kind offer of some rather interesting and relevant images of the Coconutters, to Andy C for his info re: the signalbox, to everyone who made kind comments about my efforts with Bacup (quite a lot commented on the bloody ballasting :) ), to everyone who allowed me to waffle on with them for ages and thus distract them from operating their layouts, to the weather gods for gifting us good weather (with the exception of a downpour at the end when people were packing up, of course) which somehow lasted all weekend in the Lakes. Basically, just THANKS :) :) :)

Well, my legs were on display all day (forgot the curtain!) and no-one's made a comment so far - sexist lot!

Not much else to say from me that already hasn't been said. Thanks to Pete Harvey for turning up to help without being asked, filing switch blades and showing me is latest project in all it's 3d Cad glory - grey is the wrong colour though Pete ;)

The fiddle yard for Fourgig is back on the drawing board and I might need to get some IKEA draw runners .....

Thanks to Andy, Wendy, Harry and the rest of the team for a brilliant if all too quick day :)

I suppose the thing is that people like me that are a Continent away or sick or whatever really miss is the camaraderie...(no, not the cake - I'm on a diet).

So we kind of over-compensate in our demand for photos/news whereas if we were actually there we'd behave more like Sandside (above) and stand around chatting for most of the time.....

All the best, Pete.

Probably could have done with a bit of shaving or waxing?...

Nah - varnishing or painting maybe....

I will add my thanks to Andy and his family and all the helpers for an absolutely fantastic day. It took me most of yesterday to recover (although I did manage a quick visit to the Hartlepool show as part of the recuperation!). Oh, and a bit thank you to Julia for asking me (and Pixie, Bryn and TomE) to help with Highclere.

I was full of good intentions to get some snaps of BCB boards up but spent almost the whole day supervising the half scale operators (Zak and Josh) on NHC. When I did escape it was to grab food/drink or for the obvious result of partaking of food/drink! A very relaxed day though and thoroughly enjoyable.

Pete - that is actually quite true - there was a lot of socialising and chatting going on, and I was as guilty as anybody else there in that connection. I viewed and enjoyed all the layouts, even when they weren't running, and chatted with many many people. I was there for six hours, and I'd say that in my case the split was about 30% layouts, 30% static exhibitors/demonstrators, and 40% chit chat, and probably everybody else had similar agendas - there was no pressure to "get round the exhibits" and the operators were just as keen to chat as they were to operate. There's only one answer - get an advance ticket from NY to Manchester, and then a train to Stafford next year - I might add that we did discuss the possibility of your putting in an appearance.

I will try and get there one year.......it's a question of timing not cash.

I'm looking forward to Black Country meat pies, beer and company!

Oh, and railways....

Best, Pete.

The big problem you have is choosing between Taunton or Stafford (different sorts of events but both very worthwhile because of their similarities) or just accepting it's worth staying a few months (or you could always move, it definitely wasn't 101F in Stafford over the weekend).

(and Mrs Stationmaster was otherwise engaged so not in the least frightened by the sight ;) )

Eh? What exactly was the delightful (I've seen pictures) Mrs. S. actually doing?????

Best, Pete.

When I met her, sitting behind Mike's table with a pile of signalling literature, Mike gone walkabout, and reading a Kindle - and not looking at all bored or scared - and as to the legs in question, I was too busy drooling over the leg owner's Duke of Gloucester and Might Have Been BR Standard 8F to be bothered by the sight!

And a very fine job they made of it , their efforts put some ' paying exhibition ' layout operators that I have witnessed

in the deep shade . Please tell them 'job well done ' .

@Pete: Being just as curious as you are about Julia's legs, I've gotten a distinct and very nagging feeling that "those-who-were-there" are taking the mickey out of "us-who-weren't"... :( :ireful:

In fact, I think it's not about Julia's legs at all, rather the legs of the table of some particular layout... :jester:

Sorry but may I just add: "Well, D'oh!"

Even if Julia had the most beautiful, real, legs, we're too much of gentlemen to discuss them (in public, anyway).

Best, Pete

I wouldn't dare - she's bigger than me (but nowadays, that goes for many, many ladies) LOL

Andy,

The three pals I took along, 2 members and a guest, are still in shock. They were quite overwhelmed with the hospitality on offer, nothing quite like they had experienced before. Free admission, endless free tea and coffee, a fantastic free lunch, more free tea and coffee, then free tea and cakes to finish with.

The 4 of us, myself included, are extremely grateful for all that was provided on the day....and I don't just mean the food.

Tell me..........this must have been a costly excercise to put on, so do I assume that Warners group were somewhat behind providing for the event.....cos if that is so, then we 4 would like like to offer sincere thanks to Warners for their support of the RMweb day.....and long may it continue.

I did get the opportunity to speak with Steve (Warners) late in the day, and briefly discuss the improving editions of BRM. I am a returnee to the magazine since its ownership of RMweb, and I do believe it is improving rapidly. So thanks also to you Warners.

'Taller' is the word you were looking for Stewart not 'bigger'

I found your part of the big picture, Mick.

"Distinguished" is a suitable description......in your avatar you look drunk! :drag:

Best, Pete.

What else can I add that hasn't already been said. My first RM Web members day, and it certainly won't be my last! A thoroughly enjoyable event made even better by the friendly atmosphere. Many thanks to Andy and the organisers and of course all those who exhibited their layouts as it wouldn't have been possible without them.

My biggest regret is that I could not make this year. As soon as next years date is announced I am going to book the day off so that I can attend. From the postings it looks like the event was superb. Of course you do know Andy that this event could take on Warley-esque proportions!

I was really looking forward to seeing "Julia's Legs" mail1.gif

Best, Pete.

This year, unlike last, I decided to keep my legs firmly away under some full leg jeans as they are whiter than a white polar bear in a snowy whiteout. :O My legs aren't particularly nice looking at the best of times (along with the rest of me which is mostly too fat...)
