RMweb Gold Dagworth Posted July 11, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 11, 2012 <snip> And I was highly impressed with Ravenscliffe, especially the way it was packed away at the end in what looked like flight cases. It looks like its designed to be taken on a world tour! I work in the entertainment industry, flightcasing comes naturally to me... Andi

RMweb Gold chriswright03 Posted July 12, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 12, 2012 Well the good news is that Andy has posted my camera back to me. Whether the pictures are any good or not I shall have to see BUT there is the one of Missy's legs just before her birthday! Regards Chris
2mm Andy
Just been sorting out my photos from Saturday - to satisfy the curiosity of certain members, here is a photo of Julia's legs (and the rest of her - tucking into one of the very yummy oatcakes!). Unfortunately that's one of the very few decent photos I took - most of the rest were rather blurry. Andy
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted July 12, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 12, 2012 Unfortunately that's one of the very few decent photos I took - most of the rest were rather blurry. ChrisMRL
Morning all, The video I shot at the Members' day last weekend is finished: http://bit.ly/OC5Ij6 A handful of layouts (as many as I could fit in) plus a quick look at the Black Country Blues project layout and the team (a longer video to come on that soon) and of course an intro from Andy York. Thanks to everyone who put up with me and my roving camera on the day! cheers Chris

RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted July 13, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 13, 2012 Just the usual vote of thanks to all who have managed to convey how it all looked on the day. The Le Mans Classic ensured I could not be in the UK that weekend, but everything I have seen and heard in this thread suggests it was all a huge success. Being an overseas member of such a community is kinda gratifying and tantalising at the same time!
Mike Sheardown
Great video Chris - lovely shooting, and it still amazes me how superb it looks without any additional lighting!! A really good record of the day, and of course, of all the fabulous layouts that were present. Many thanks Mike

Andy Y
Very surprised not to see Highclare on video How did they miss that? Cheers Frank Chris knew he wouldn't be able to get a decent amount of footage of every layout so he had to slim it down; he did mutter something about two days but I poked him in the eye. I can't watch viddy 'cos I'm having to use a ten year old Powerbook which is now unsupported by Adobe.... Chris, if you put it on YouTube I could watch it (and then b!@ch about Ian and Julia's layouts being missing). Best, Pete.
edcayton
The video I shot at the Members' day last weekend is finished: Thanks for that, I think you have caught the atmosphere very well. I hadn't noticed the "pint" and "half pint" T-shirts before. I am still less than impressed by your "muzak". Ed
chrisf
Ed, I agree with you about the muzak, though it could have been much worse - think Telerail. I think the layouts that did make it into video immortality came across very weii. One day, perhaps, "Highclere - the movie" ... Chris
RMweb Gold chriswright03 Posted July 13, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 13, 2012 So at long last I have my camera back with me after fetching it from the post office. Pictures are my usual sort, a bit blurred not very well composed and poorly lit but for those that didn't have the opportunity to go to the show I suppose they are just better than nothing and hopefully give a flavour of what we enjoyed. So this is what we started with first thing on Saturday morning after having spent 4 hours and a bit on Friday evening assisting the early birds to set up. Much chair and table moving and lugging of stuff and you end up with this. Orchard Road New Haden Colliery Greyscroft Mine Mid morning ish when it was beginning to fill up a bit. I recall a conversation with one visitor who said it was quieter than the previous year. Possibly the weather put off some who were undecided but it did fill up considerably later. Not too sure if this was breakfast or dinner but both were excellent. Had PhilH bothered to turn up this year I feel sure we could have tempted him with a Staffordshire oatcake. I had two! RMWeb widow and slaves hard at work feeding the masses. Some of the members sampling cake of which there was plenty although not a Barra Brith in sight for some strange reason. Some of the cakes. Sadly a little blurred as there was a bit of a scrum around at the time. So at least you get to see what they looked like if not a flavour of them! Our leader with his closing speech. Looks a little tired you have to say but really there is no wonder. I only had two days of it and I was well worn out so what Andy was like after the build up, the show and the close down I can barely guess. This is as good a time as any to add my personal thanks to him and Wendy for a smashing weekend. Normal exhibitions can never be as good as this because on the day it really does seem like one big happy family. Close down with the room almost back to normal. Being part of the many who assisted with the unloading on Friday night and watching the build of the layouts at times discussion turned to the things that you just don't normally discuss. For a start Wordsell Forever (Paul) was saying that at all the exhibitions he has attended he was disappointed that no one had ever asked him how he fixed his curtains to the layout front. So naturally I did. They are the tonneau cover studs. Then as Halfwit has mentioned Dagworth's (Andy Dell) packing cases. It was amazing to see these wheeled in and the layout come out of them and be built up. Which of course eventually leads us to Missy's (Julia's) legs! Now I helped carry the layout in on Friday night and I can tell you it was light and extremely easy to carry, incredibly ingenious design and a joy to watch it go together in no time at all. So next time you hear someone discussing there was nothing for them at a show because it was all steam/modern image/GWR or whatever don't forget the other basic stuff that without it there would be no layout. Amongst our members we have some very talented members and some brilliant jaw dropping layouts but there is still the little things that you don't see and watching the build up of the layouts as they arrived was a stark reminder of the talent we have on the forum. If I haven't taken pictures of your layout it wasn't because I didn't like it but due to the fact that these were taken when I wasn't looking after the tea and coffee. Thanks all who turned up and made it a great day and one to be proud of. I met and spoke to many and enjoyed the day much more because of the many discussions. I look forward to next year and hope to bump into the old and new friends made on the day. Regards Chris
Barnaby
OH glum is me, this shows in detail what I missed. Great video Chris showing some very nice layouts while also allowing our hobby to be seen in a good light. Seeing some of the faces behind the models and adding their online monicas was a stroke of wisdom. I feel the joining of RMWeb with Warners can only benefit all, the web site, the magazine and us the modellers. Keep up the great work all. Many thanks Mark
