The human side of the railway...

But that's an up train (1A08); surely he's climbing down from a loco about to come off and be replaced by an electric.  Apropos electrics, nice guide to brake dust weathering on the one in the background...

A few from the lens of Derek Clarke, three at Solihull in 1974 / 75, one at New Street in 1975 (I was there that day to see D1023 and D1051, remember it well!) and one at Bristol Temple Meads in 1974...

D1037 at Taunton on 11th April 1975, the chap on the right standing with his daughter is Exeter based enthusiast John Oldridge, a prolific timer of Westerns back in those days, has father Bill was a Driver at Exeter and was the last but one to drive D1007 'Western Talisman' before it had the fatal accident at Ealing in December '73, he wrote a few notes In the fault book and this was the reason it was stopped at Old Oak and had attention given to the batteries, the rest is history as they say... photo by Roger Geach...

I wonder if that injector is going to pick up ..... Kidderminster 3rd August 2019

Going by the small amount of steam showing,

I would say that one has already picked up.

He's probably, like me, fascinated by the way injectors work.

Ditto likewise - never makes sense no matter how many times it is explained!

A touch self indulgent this one but worth posting for the nostalgia factor - my brother was just sent this photo of 50 050 at Padd on 27/3/89 and realised that both he and I are in it, he's the oik in the foreground with his back to the camera and your's truly is the skinny 'dude' in the white shirt, black jeans and black jacket leaning nonchalantly against the canopy support - a few minutes before this was taken I took the shot which follows it, of Old Oak driver Colin Morgan about to board 'Fearless' and set off for Newbury...

The engine crew rest in the shade before taking their 'V2' out on the mainline. No high vis, no hard hats, no fences, just common sense working practices. And Polish Railways have the same EU rules and regulations as the UK does.

A few more from the depths of the hard drive - having trouble formatting posts with individual captions at the moment but will credit the photos once I've sorted it out... the Blue Pullman driver is Ernie Morris who sadly perished at the controls of D1040 'Western Queen' at Dorridge in August '63...
