Great roof!

How did you attach the end sections?

Hi, I sanded a bevel on the end pieces, fixed them into place with masking tape, and then turned it over and ran PVA down the joints on the inside of the roof.

                                                    Regards Adrian

Ah, the proper way :)

I cheated and used offcuts of 10thou plasticard on the underside to glue the edges together, then bent it to fit...

Nice job mate.

Al.

What with the price of lead these days and people nicking it, I thought it prudent to make my lead flashing for the roof ridges that cover the slate roof of Brasted Station from a Tyhpoo Tea Bag box, (other teas are available). When they crease the box to make it you get a nice little ridge if you turn it inside out. the photos are fairly self explanatory, the roof still needs a touch more weathering, but I shall do that when I finish the sofits and the guttering.

With all this rain today I thought that arriving passengers would like somwhere to shelter whilst waiting for a lift.

The valance is made from strips of thin card, double sided tape was used to fix it to another piece of thin card, which was then fixed to the canopy. The canopy roof is another piece of card with a couple of strips of microstrip glued on, and then covered in paper. Uprights for the canopy are some strips of plasticard glued together for a bit of thickness, the curved canopy supports are strips of plasticard formed round my paint brush handel. I will fix the canopy to the station building when the rain stops.

Brilliant. How long did it take you cut out all of those strips? (If you don't mind me asking)

Hi, about twenty minutes,  cut your long thin strips first, I just cut the points freehand if they looked right they where right. use a new blade in your knife or scalpel is much easier, and thanks for your comments. Regards Adrian.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've just reached the end of this thread as it stands today, and I must say, it's an absolutely brilliant body of work and an invaluable source of inspiration. I will undoubtably be coming back here for reference!
