RMweb Gold Budgie Posted January 28, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 28, 2014 Even the old Triang 3 SUB had lights No they didn't. They had one light in the headcode box, and nothing else.
autocoach
Product Liability attorneys would argue that putting an lights in encourages you to play with trains in the dark and sue the manufacturer when you trip in the blackness of simulated or real night time. The manufacturer is of course a liable party as they encouraged you to play in the dark by providing a lighted toy train...hence you have to light the toy train yourself and assume the liability. bigherb
No they didn't. They had one light in the headcode box, and nothing else. Yep and only at the power bogie end. Personally I can do without the gimmicks I would rather the development budget be spent on a detailed model. Especially when the gimmicks are not needed by a high proportion of the buyers. mossdp
Does anyone know if the inner working couplings on the Hornby 2BIL should both spring back to the centre? Those on the power car do, but those on the trailer car do not. There is also something rattling around in the trailer car on a new model.
RMweb Gold RFS Posted January 31, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 31, 2014 Yes it should - both coaches have an identical mechanism. There's a spring involved so maybe that's come adrift. The coupling mechanism can get itself stuck but it's fairly easy to rectify that.
mossdp
Many thanks for the advice. I will investigate before sending it back.
mattingleycustom
I've just been perusing a well known auction site and found no less than 36 listings for the Hornby 2-BIL; that's the proper 2-car EMU, not spares and accessories. Even the box shifters appear to have plenty of them. Over-production, or just not as popular as first thought? I wonder if the 2-HAL will appear in quite the same numbers. andyman7
As we have also seen with the 'Duke of Gloucester', one of the current supply effects has been that initial supplies of a new item are slow, causing temporary shortages, but eventually the bulk gets delivered. The 2-BIL may well be easily available now, but that includes mainly the re-run examples with alternative numbers. It's an item with a fairly specialised appeal so is not likely to fly off the shelves once the initial demand has been met, but then again it's good to have some Hornby products that it is possible to take ones time about buying and even save up for! Ian Abel
If you're considering a 2-BIL (who wouldn't after all ), one option, provided you seek the BR livery, is to check the Hornby revamped web site. As one of the Father's Day specials (at least IMPLIED, but may be a broad price reduction and just included in the Father's Day choices) there's the lovely R3162A now reduced to 79.99 quid. I'd have one winging its way to me already were it not for "issues" documented elsewhere on RMWeb... Go for it if you're looking for one, it's 20 quid cheaper than at Hattons even! <sigh> Edited June 7, 2014 by Ian Abel

Ian Abel
Darn <sigh> maybe I should have kept it a secret While I do hope you two get the 2-BIL, I ALSO hope they don't indeed run out as indicated being a possibility. I want to try and get one but still trying to get access with my email address/password reset. I'm hoping it'll be resolved Monday when they (Hornby) get back in and follow up on posted customer support emails. Let's hope they have enough for us all! Ian Abel
Fathers Day gift ARRIVED Apaprently it appears the higher cost of postage/shipping for US buyers is due to them using DHL 2-day delivery! I ordered mine LATE Tuesday afternoon UK time, and it arrived this morning - not bad I'd say, and yes it IS a lovely model. Wish it had some lighting a la my Bachmann 4-CEP but I already knew it didn't . Time to get out the string of LEDs I have for building/carriage lighting it seems. Of course I can't RUN mine yet as I didn't bother to get a decoder - basically expecting it to take till late next week to arrive <sigh> decoder on its way now though, will be here Tuesday.

Ian Abel
FYI - I didn't get a delivery tracking email. Mine was "somewhat" different as explained in the "Hornby Website..." thread as I spoke personally with Mark at Customer Care due to the problems I was having with my login. He took the order ofver the phone and processed it. He had said I'd get an email, but never saw one. I'd emailed him this morning "curious" about the tracking, but then DHL texted me to let me know there was a "signed for" delivery inbound, so I didn't really need one after all. Certainly would be good to know, for future, that they do send them out though.
