J's right about this Lounge, its certainly come alive again, and with some interesting discussions and thoughts.

I'd like the idea of seeing Bacup in EM, and its a real shame for me that our Club is still set in the dark ages, (I expect Peter (BB) will be on later to contradict that, but we have one modeller in particular that still insist on BANGING 1 inch nails into the centre of Peco sleepers to fix track. I have tried to say, use fine wire pins on the outside and then remove them after ballasting, but to no avail.

Our N Gauge Old Boy is doing a model of the Dartmoor branch in 12ft x 2ft, it has all the Stations on the Branch so a Station about every 2ft in a snaking ''S'' formation and rising about 3 inches from one end to the Terminus. The backscene consists of a series of PURPLE photos of various locations along the line, and they DONT match up either.

Never mind, at least there enjoying their hobby in there own way, good job were not all the same, now where that pic of a RTR Bulleid that I photographed earlier?

I gave you a Funny, rather than a Supportive, as the images you conveyed made me laugh like hell, Andy!!

Let them get on with it - you just enjoy Whittaker Street!

Ooooh Jason, yer little blighter..... Lots of coded messages in there, sunshine!

Thanks for the support. I think both Lounges are working very well - and the modelling dynamic of this one is excellent. Great discussion!

As for the "weird crap" in the Asylum - one of these days you'll understand it!!!!  :D  :D

From your "baRRstard mate" Jeff

Don't worry Jeff, in a few SHORT WEEKS Jason will be discussing the Velocity and Trajectory of a FULL NAPPIE compared to an Empty but wet, soggy and very smelly one, when aiming at the bin. Also he will want to discuss the projectile vomiting over the shoulder and the consequences of that just as he's about to depart for work. hahhahha

Excellent!

If he needs any calculations doing, he can send me the relevant data and I'll see what predictions I can come up with. By that, I mean which part of his anatomy is most likely/probable to receive projectile impacts given the position he's holding the baby!

And have you seen all the social media fuss because some kids couldn't answer a maths question on their GCSE? I mention it because it, too, is about probabilities! What a fuss about a very fair question (if everyone could do all the questions there'd be no point in an exam, would there?) Sorry - I should have mentioned this in the Asylum.

And I've answered it in the Asylum, MAD or WOT. :O

Now why would I contradict this one just because I like stream  ... but as you know Deesdale Road is 'modern' whatever that means and runs diesels.  Today I introduced my granddaughter, who seems to be keen on 'trains' (Andy close your eyes) loves Thomas and is getting quite a hand at operating for a two year old, to real locomotives at the GCR (Black Five and 8F) - she loved the steam on the War Weekend (also some great WW2 stuff there) but I made sure that she saw some non-running (this weekend) diesels even if they were 'old'.

Talk about banging - you couldn't hear yourself talk.  The positive is that he has a plan for an improvement in the DC section and is working at it but will only ever run LNER between 1918 and 1939 as far as I can see i.e. never a diesel.  On another track (oops no pun intended) they say to have a 'purple patch' is a great thing but not in this case -  if it must be actual pictures of the area then let it be colour photographs ... I might add that Andy volunteered to paint the scenery for him  ... I will leave the reply for you to decide.  The problem this layout gives is that at present no one else can build a 'club' N gauge layout  but we will see.

Work proceeds on Coopers Dale and Marston but currently at a slower pace but improving quality all the time and yes, Andy's recent input has probably stopped potential derailments in a not readily accessed part of a tunnel.

Evening all,

Whilst posting on Al's 'Bakewell', the subject of holding small parts came up and I mentioned some pegs I found from Cooper's of Stortford - I thought some modellers on here might like to know about them. They are selling 40 pegs for £9.99, with 40 more free and when I bought them (supposedly for Joanna!), I noticed the modelling possibilities as, not only are they stainless, but they have 'soft pad' protection inside the jaws and the springs look easy to weaken. I've even used a few to hold the edges of the large gas barbecue cover.

I have no connection with them other than being a satisfied customer. They have an easy to negotiate web site.

Kind regards,

Jock.

What a lot of it is with me is wanting to push myself and learn new skills, as well as trying to achieve something closer to scale. Not only that but the majority of modellers I socialise with (at Shipley MRS, Chris, Paul Wordsell Forever, Tim Easter, the Stafford lot and at exhibitions the Rochdale guys) in the main model in EM and the layouts I tend to get to operate at exhibitions (BCB, New Hey, Greyscroft Mine when Paul thrusts a controller into my hand) are all EM too. P4 would be a step too far (my modelling is not accurate enough) but I do find myself looking at Bacup and noticing the width of the track and the way locos look a bit odd with their wheels too close together (it stands out when I place my OO and EM Black Fives next to each other).

I hope the above doesn't come across as snobby because I do not think that a layout has to have close to scale track to be good, it is just where my interests are heading.

Come for a holiday to Perth, Jason.  After a few weeks looking at mainline trains running on 3'6", that OO track will seem quite normal...

I have a section of standard gauge outside my office, that runs parallel to the narrow gauge - and it now looks rather out of place.

A small spate of modelling broke out in the shed today :O, however it didn't progress my layout much as I was helping the missus make a diorama, something she has started so that we can work together when I go out there. So the mojo is alive and well and some time to model is starting to appear, looking forward to the awakening from hibernation.

With reference to Andys' earlier post that mentioned Projectile vomiting my son had that as a baby, flippin eck is that scary, Linda refused to feed him so I used to do it with my water-proof leggings on, quite a relief when he had the corrective operation and now at over 6'3" and 16 stone it's obvious he made up for those lost meals  .

Catch you later

Just read that out to Dee, and we were both laughing our silly heads off, thanks for a vivid story Jim.

A quick question! I'm just about ready to attach the etched nameplates to my Bachmann Jubilee 'Victoria' before I set about weathering. So what do I use, superglue or varnish? Over to you chaps!

I converted from 00 to EM around 1979 before going on to other gauges. In those days there were two benefits firstly using Sharman wheels for locos and maygib for rolling stock you got a lot better running than messing around with all the various proprietary wheels and if you were going to change wheels you may as well use a more correct gauge. Secondly it was about attitude if you are going to bother with changing the gauge you will bother with a lot of other things as well. It is a 'finescale' attitude.

I seem to remember my mate Steve who was a superb builder suggesting gum Arabic. Now there is something from the past.

Don

Gum Arabic?  You'll have MI5 on your doorstep and your email monitored if you try and order that online!

I'm happy with varnish - but do use a new knife blade and score the back of the plate in a cross hatch so it keys in a little.

Others use double sided tape or blutak, but I harbour doubts about longevity with those.

Varnish does take a steady hand, but if you use *slightly* more than seems obvious, you get a few seconds of working time and can be sure things are straight.  It does take practice though - so why not try with some scrap fret from the outside of the brass etch and a piece of waste plasticard?

Cheers

Scott

Blimey I managed a 'right good session' in the shed today and made some great progress so I might have to do an update once I Have sorted through some photos if they are OK, :O  well I was playing around with all the camera settings too so who knows what what the final result is though they looked OK on the LCD screen. If not I will have to take some more without messing about.

Enjoy the rest of your evening.

Just caught up with Hemyock. Looks like you've been enjoying yourself. And yes, it DOES spur me on to do some bunker work!

Good to see you've actually found some time for yourself, Jim!

My Grandaughter came to see me last night, she made her Dad bring her over. She came of course to tell me what is happening on Saturday.

I will be picking her up at 10am, we will be getting a tram into town and heading for the Sheffield Model Rail , Bus & Tram Exhibition.

The *Bank of Granddad will be open.

When we have looked at everything and she has made her required *purchases, I will be allowed to take her to McDonkeyburgers or maybe up Mickey (of this parish)'s end of town for lunch in the pub where her Dad works - I may be allowed one  yucky beer if we go there.

No pressure then ...  :tease:

Lucky Man, all my Great Grandchildren (5 plus another on its way down the canal of life) are down south, (Grandchildren in their 20's / 30's) so Saturday for me will be walking the Dogs, and then into the Potting Shed, (can I say that in here, oh yes I'm in the RIGHT LOUNGE, just checked).

My next day out will be at the Great Central's 3 day Model Railway show with Peter BB of this Parish showing my old Deesdale Road. I will go on the Friday and then see how I feel for Sat / Sun. On the Mainline there will be TWO 9F's running and one has been re painted in Green and numbered and named Evening Star so I'm looking forward to that immensely. I believe there are 5 Locos in Steam for the weekend so if anyone see's me, George T or Peter on Deesdale please say hello.

Despite the current lovely weather, it looks like it'll be pi55ing down here on Saturday. I'm going over to Cumbria for the whole of next week, so maybe a day or too of crap weather might give me the kick-up-the-posterior I need and get me finishing the paintwork in the bunker?!

Hmm, Bank of Grandad is now engaged in doing a Loughborough feasibility study, trains there & back and in between. I'm sure that somebody will egg me on if she gets to hear about it. Mrs HB is off to Tunisia tomorrow, returning on the 20th, so I have no conscience for eight whole days.

Nuff sed :stinker:

Edited to make sense.

Hi Jeff and all.

Hope all is well I've just caught up with what lounge is what. I have been busy getting sorted for the new arrival but I have managed to do some modeling. Most of my black 5's have had the smokebox mod done ( thanks to Jason and Tim for showing me there locos ) . Done some small bits on Bucks lane and now I'm at work making a golden arrow clan body fit on a new Hornby brit chassis.

I was going to go to the gcr show but I'm now working (thats what I get for grabbing lol ) .
