"Ivor the engine" comes of age, in 7mm, by OzzyO & friends.

Finally got around to ordering Ivors plunger pickups, now to find a cheap 'n' cheerful decoder. Would I be able to get away with a OO decoder? My other loco has a high quality lokpilot decoder, but at £40+ I'm hoping Ivor can get away with something wallet friendly.

They don't draw much current, I used a Zimo to try out the 'stay alive; capacity as it's such a short wheelbase. Mine is only drawing .1-to .2A, if I recall correctly, so I would suggest almost anything will be o.k., it's not as if it's going  to pull the Pines Express.

Well the 4mm version of Ivor is finished it just has to have chip fitted and it will be running I hope to have him with me at WrecRail 2014 on August 2nd running on Dudley Road.

I shall be adding the kit to my site soon and posting some more info on the PH Designs thread on the Forum.

Well, my Ivor is no longer naked, he's had his first coat of grey primer put on. Other than decorating the body and the chassis work that's left, jobs a good 'un. Will need a coat or three of primer before I'll put up any pictures.

Any further developments on the shade of green, I'm still convinced mine should be a bit darker, but LNER or GWR green would not seem quite right.

I think you can justify any shade from GWR to LNER Apple if you look at all of the available videos and pictures, I gave up trying to pin it down and went for the cowards option of copying everyone else.

No one's going to be able to prove you are wrong, given the variety of source material, so just do whatever feels right, you've got to live with it!

Well, it's been a while since I did any work on Ivor, but having now obtained some Precision Varnish I thought I should get a wiggle on to get him ready for the 'Not so Great Gathering' at RMWeb Live.

I had bought some nice 1/43rd tanks, for another project, which come in nice plastic cases.

I quickly tried Ivor in one to see if I could keep him dust free in the workroom, but it was a bit too low,

having thought about it for a bit I wondered if it might work with the base upside down, and lo and behold it did,

so with a bit of track cut to length and ballasted,

some plastic angle glued and painted on the base to provide a locating rim,

and the nickel silver piece of the chassis fret with the logo on it,

Ivor now has a new dust free home.

He has also now had transfers completed and buffers re-painted a darker silver, so it's now ready for varnish.

What a beautiful job you have made but you cannot condemn Ivor to a glass cage!

He was "Born to Ride".

"Too fast to live, too young to die". :nono:

Thanks for the compliment,  he does get let out occasionally, but he needs a supply of coal first, then he needs his 'habit' sorting,

then with that short wheelbase I think he might need the chassis compensating.

So at the moment he's quite happy - it's all sacks, and drugs, and rock an roll.
