RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted June 24, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 24, 2013 A few more of 4948 which shew the backscene off in the distance ,hopefully. My meadow flower tufts came today and it was very quick and easy to 'plant' them and get the effect of buttercups/daisies I wanted.A blister pack won't go far though. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/72954-the-army-painter/
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted June 24, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 24, 2013 Before I bed these two huts in properly I want to confirm the likelihood of them both being in a GWR goods yard.Obviously the corrugated hut [ Mikes Models] in light/dark stone is correct but a general hut [Ratio/Wills] as well.I'm not sure and don't have any photo evidence but would like to use them for both scenic effect and interest.
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted June 24, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 24, 2013 Rob - the Ratio brick built hut is fairly generic, but a lovely little model. I've certainly seen evidence of very similar structures on both the Somerset & Dorset and the Midland Railway , so I wouldn't hesitate about putting one at Brent! Come to think of it, there are two at Brent already...
cary hill
Well you've got the relative positioning of the two buildings spot on - very similar here: http://inlanding.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/eynsham_weighbridge.jpg An "independent" railway when built though - the Fairford Branch. cary hill
Hi Rob, A quick question re the red brick Wills(?) bridge which forms part of your excellent bucolic country scene. Is there a similar "prototype" in the Brent area that you have loosely based it on ? I'm thinking the vast majority of bridges in the South Devon area are stone or stone/girder construction, with some having partial blue brick reconstruction/strengthening. I think Tanners Road, Goodrington is of brick construction, but that is a "modern" replacement for a level crossing. Just curious for purely selfish reasons, as I have a couple of those Will's kits knocking about and would like to use them if I can on my planned South Devon layout. No not at all.Its just a generic bridge I built long before I planned a layout but it fitted that end that's out in the country [Rattery/Hemerdon] so to speak. You're quite right as to bridges in South Devon being stone but I'm reasonably happy with red brick as it stands.I bet there's lots of layouts up and down the country with that same bridge on.Andy Y said my layout was like something out the Ratio/Wills catalogue. Ah Tanners Rd,Goodrington.I parked near there a couple of years back in the pay and display car park.I got a ticket for overstaying my time by 5 minutes !
RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted June 25, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 25, 2013 The brick building looks similar to the wagon weighbridge hut at Cranmore on the ESR. SS

RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted June 25, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 25, 2013 Its a glorious sunny summers evening in the South Hams as the Hackney Yard to Plymouth empty cattle wagon train trundles through Brent with 4575 class 5525 at the head. I don't think I shewn this view before from what is the operators chair over proceedings. Also of note is the toad has had the Shawplan laserglaze fitted.Black curtains all round hide all kinds of household junk etc.

RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted June 25, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 25, 2013 Thanks Rob, I have the Backy one - it's EM.... It was a suitable 7mm one I'm looking around for - I suspected you might be the man who knows! Still getting a feel of what is and isn't produced that would be suitable for the new project. RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted June 25, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) A few more of 5525 in action including a sepia conversion but did it work. The daisies in the foreground are by The Army Painter and are used mainly by wargamers. However they have a use in our field[!] too. RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted June 25, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 25, 2013 Final few for tonight.Just been looking at the other end of the layout to this where I've made an attempt at the sea wall or is it Cockwood harbour.I need to have another go at the water as its not good and needs improving if I can. Has anyone a link to a layout photo where the sea/beach looks very realistic.Gordon Gravett's river on Pempeol is fabulous but is still in water movement. You could always use MI4 Kingstorre as a jumping-off point/initial benchmark - there are 4 or 5 sea/beach shots of the "Dawlish" scene - they might be a bit "eternal Devon summer" for some tastes. I seem to remember a certain other layout features prominently in the same publication.

The Lionheart 64XX/74XX is a delectable little machine and as good a temptation as I have ever seen (and keep on resisting, so far) to move to the bigger scale, every one I have ever seen runs like the proverbial Swiss sewing machine. However the 64s in the south west were very much Plymouth suburban engines and had plenty of that work to keep them occupied (now expect a pic of one in Launceston!) while the 74s were a good bit more widespread. RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted June 26, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 26, 2013 (edited) Oh so the Lionheart 64XX is a great intro for 7mm then? Ummmmm? (Resistance is futile..........................) Problem is I'll have to do another month's bog cleaning to afford one; however, £528 RTR is superb value..........) R A Watson
Rob, It's a fairly well known fact here in the South West that Don Breckon mainly based his paintings on other people's photos He is probably sitting at home reading your thread and gaining Inspiration.
