Bu**er clichés. That all looks good. Undoubtedly there were bigger "chars-a-banc" (charabancs or coaches) than the OB, but Royal Blue was the name in longer distance coach travel to the West Country in my yoof.

And Mrs Stationmaster's dad occasionally used to drive them (instead of his more regular fayre on local routes).

That was a quick service for eBay!

The OB looks very good on there. I also found an OB website, where there are photos of a bus built on 1937 still being used today. (Clearly not as a daily bus though!)

I tell you what.Captain Kernow's predecessors on the GWR were good at their jobs to get the railway up and running so quickly. The OB bus is returning home empty. :jester:

When I worked at Western National in the 1980s we tried to resurrect the Royal Blue name (which WNOC owned) with one of our touring coaches. Very smart it looked too, wish I had a photo of it to share with you.

You might want to look at this local firm, based in Kingsbridge Station Yard at the time:

A couple of their fleet in 1980 would have been around in your era!

That takes me back Colin. When my late grandparents lived in Kingsbridge in 1970 we visited them at Christmas time.I was only about 6 years old but I do recall seeing that bus company.Reading the history too I have learnt that Leslie Hard was a coach operator in South Brent in the 40s.A sign for Hards Taxis adorns my gents screen. This was taken from an old photo that John [Coombe Barton] helped me do.The photo is in my gallery.A small world the internet sometimes.

There is a healthy second hand market in Buses Rob, so it's not unheard of for non locally-registered buses to be on the fleet. My local firm, Sanders, appear to be shopping at Stagecoach lately - hope they're not getting robbed.

Back in the 1960s and early 1970s, Eynons of Trimsaran used to operate a fleet of ageing ex-London Transport RTs for their scheduled services; some, possibly most, retained the LT roller destination blinds, with a piece of cardboard with the actual destination displayed somewhere relatively prominent. Most smaller provincial companies that ran 'stagecoach' services had similar arrangements.

Within the big, pre NBC, groups, buses were often moved about to cover busy periods in seaside areas and suchlike; sometimes, the drivers were loaned with them. ( Hence 'busman's holiday')

Seen yesterday with 4540 it's back to my railway stock and today I've been fitting screw links to my non GWR vehicles.

An interesting contrast here between the Hornby LMS brown cct,Bachmann weathered NE oxide van and an unweathered version of the same vehicle.A bit different to GWR grey. ;)

I also find if you use the tension locks the distance between the buffers is excessive and shows up in close photos.I may take mine off permanently. Not good for shunting though.

It's a pity that OOC's Bristol L5G in Bath Services green and cream livery

post-9751-0-44814300-1388505087.jpgpost-9751-0-82002600-1388505112.jpg

is a near miss for Western National's Bristol L5G DOD 518 http://www.bristolsu.co.uk/l/operatordetails/westernnational/dod518.htm due to differing coach body types. Although you could always squint (a lot)after re-badging.

Presumably you are aware that EFE did a Bedford OB in "reversed" Western National colours http://www.modelbuszone.co.uk/efe/sd/201/20120.html although I don't suppose a 1948 registration or "Newquay" as a destination are useful.

Just a bit worried that the drivers based at Kingsbridge Western National Bus Depot, who are still members of the NUR, won't take kindly to the DG bus on their patch.

Rob,

May I ask what you've used for the platform surfaces please?

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Dave.If you mean in my last photos then it's Green Scene textured paint applied with a finger by rubbing otherwise it's too coarse.Painted afterwards with an appropriate grey enamel.

It's very hard wearing and it has to be it's where I place my camera for all the shots I've taken this year. ;)

Anyway it's that time of the year where I retire and have my usual few tipples of my favourite West Country brew.As its New Years Eve.

Thanks very much everyone and I do mean everyone for the banter, laughs, tears, frustrations, you name it we've had it but most of all friendship gained over the thread during 2013.Not just from the UK but the US,Holland and Denmark too.I blame Andy Y.He told me which camera to buy. :declare:

Lets make 2014 even better.Happy New Year ! :imsohappy:
