A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

I see this year marks 180 since IKB was appointed engineer and set in motion the design and building of the South Devon Railway. As a reminder, this link relates some of that early history

I think ANT -IKB will be in order while you're down there.

Have they finished rebuilding the sea wall yet.

More or less, but I'm not convinced that the wall next to the railway bridge is interacting/ deflecting the sea as intended. Small waves the other week but massive plumes of water crashing down on the walkway...

Be interesting to hear what you think 9f the new concrete bridge that hides the old GWR girder one on the seaward side.

Apparently.... just waiting for the next big storm to come and bust it all up...

TBH, the route is an accident of history, and it was a damn silly place to put a railway in the first instance!

However, the South Devon coast would look a lot different but for the protection it has provided. I doubt that much of Dawlish as we know it would still exist without it.

The new works look pretty solid compared with what they replace, but I don't doubt that nature will do its best to isolate it by attacking the old infrastructure to either end of it.

Phase one rather than the end result IMHO.

I forgot. If you have absolutely nothing to do after the Aussies are bowled out and have to follow on, check out the Chat on the You Tube Blenheim Cam for Dawlish. That will explain what I meant about 'Local' people. There is a very bizarre  SaAdmin...I'll leave that here.

What a difference a few weeks makes and working from a 1940s reference photo supplied by @BenL, now shewn to @Islesy for a future batch maybe and the work of @toboldlygo back to his best.

Super paint job. Many thanks for solving my dilemma regarding the correct way to paint the roof for the forties. Now I just have to wait for them to cross the Atlantic ( and the Prairies) !

Best wishes

An interesting viewpoint that's for sure.

Hall class 4943 Marrington Hall heads west with a four coach local service and meets 8750 class pannier 4679 on an up freight going to Hackney Yard.

Lovely pics of the Hall Robin. As you no doubt know, there's a very nice 1936 photo of Marrington Hall (still with small tender) coming into Kingswear with an E-set in tow, in Beck & Copsey, 'GWR in S Devon', p117.

An E set after 1938 was formed of three coaches , third, brake third, compo between Exeter and Plymouth.

Hello everyone

Many thanks to Rapido for making the SR 8-plank Opens - they look very good and run even better!

They feel as though they are sturdy enough to withstand the occasional accidental drop or knock but still retain very good detail.

I have four BR Grey examples in a mix of diagrams and running numbers.

I look forward to the GWR Opens and Vans!

Watch this space for a couple of weathered examples currently in the works of @toboldlygo 😇

I wouldn’t have the nerve to have this weathered…yes I know they were never like this. I’m sure TBG will deliver his usual class act though

A note to ease the pain . My above mentioned ensemble is now hitched to Hornby’s GWR Grange 6802….ex works TBG treatment a few years ago. Looks & runs as it should …the business,as ever.

A livery that Hornby chose to ignore on the Grange whilst both Accurascale and Dapol are happy to do it on the Manor.
