RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted June 14, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 14, 2015 What's been going on, on Dunster this week...lots of shunting for a start and the heat has affected the layout. The boards had to be loosened as the rails expanded and the fences have lost their tension. Being made from beading wire these too have expanded causing sagging! Anyway I was running an old lima Crompton with a van train when the sun headed west so took a couple of snaps. This evening I assembled the longest coal train. Double headed by a brace of GW goods locos the train was a scale 275 yards (11' in 1/1 scale terms).
Andrew P
Very nice Shaun, its just amazing how those Old Lima's still keep going, Tonbridge West Yard was at the Burton DEMU last week and there were loads of old Lima 33's, 73's, 47's etc all on analog and working superbly. More pics soon I hope mate.
RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted June 14, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 14, 2015 Hi Andy . I got a hand full still. Like you say old sloggers and I've had them donkeys years too! They take a bit of warming up some days but once they're trundling along the whole train building is full of nostalgia, they sound good too!
RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted June 14, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 14, 2015 Here's a couple more of "Eastliegh" and her van train that I just cropped and reshaded. Squatch, burning the midnight oil!
RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted June 25, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 25, 2015 Not much done this week only this wood waste train. Various 5 & 6 plank wagons were gathered, weathered and loaded with the contents of the panel saw. On the layout. 1930s setting this week. 56xx #6676 makes light work of the load. A train of containers and vans sits in the up siding. Cattle are loaded awaiting transit. RMweb Gold Anotheran Posted June 25, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 25, 2015 I very much like all those waste wood wagons. They look very effective. But I have to say that my favourite of those shots is the one of the row of vans the other side of the fence. None are alike, yet they form a coherent whole that makes a great picture. The resident Pannier tank removes a Python from the shed.Pannier.JPGIan Kirk Python.JPG Thanks for the picture of the Python. Looking at it I can immediately see an improvement I can make on mine... the addition of door grab handles on the end doors. I also like the subtle weathering. I'll go for something like that myself when I get to the paint job. I'm assuming it should be subtle as I wouldn't have thought that a proud owner of a shiny new motor in the 1930s would have been too keen to load it into some mucky old wagon. I note though that yours doesn't have the lower steps. Was that a deliberate choice, or have they become casualties like mine did?
RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted June 25, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 25, 2015 . I note though that yours doesn't have the lower steps. Was that a deliberate choice, or have they become casualties like mine did? Oops! Sometimes a little cyanoacrylate added after the solvent is dry helps prevent such things. RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted August 7, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 7, 2015 Time for some atmosphere me thinks. D7039 prepares to depart all stations to Bishops Lydeard with a rake of brand spanking new Hornby Mk1s. Thanks for checking in, Shaun

You're welcome and welcome to the Dunster thread. I might do a bit more work to this layout and hope one day to extend it to Minehead up in my attic room. Too many plans that's my trouble mate. Haha. RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted August 9, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 9, 2015 (edited) Welcome to theWest Somerset Railway Steam Gala WeekendThe platforms have been swept off, rails cleaned and locos polished ready for the crowds this weekend. So here goes for something a little different. Quite a crowd has turned up... First train of the day Is a down passenger headed by 7F N°.53808.It looks like the day trippers are in for a bit of rain as the 7F departs for Minehead.A restaurant car has been parked up in Dunsters cattle dock siding to provide refreshments and luncheon.Prairie tank N°.4550 is on station pilot duty.Next in is 33020 visiting from the Bluebell Railway. The spam can has a train of old suburban stock in case a relief train is required. Her crew set her into the siding. The pilot pulls out to set the train back into the other siding through the goods shed.No sooner than the line is cleared when 7819 Hinton Manor arrives with an up train. The crowd are loving all the action.33020 assisting at the rear. 8795 arrives next with the 09:45 Bishops Lydiard to Minehead.More later. Mrkirtley800
So, that's where my old Lambretta went. Can I have it back please, I need it to try to recapture my long lost youth. Nice set of piccies, Shaun. Derek
Modelling Martin
Hi Shaun, Really like the whole atmosphere of the layout created by the different lighting and cameos. Can I ask what goods shed you used? The sides look pretty perfect for my own project. 53808 looks good on your layout too, when she is overhauled she will be out-shopped in BR Black (in a couple of years I think?). I look forward to your extension of Minehead to steal some more ideas off you , Kind regards, Gary
RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted August 12, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 12, 2015 Hi Gary,Years ago I acquired a copy of Eric plans (available from Peco publications). All the Dunster buildings are featured in the plans. The goods shed isn't accurate but looks the part and is built from Wills sheets, course stone, slates, paving, planking for the doors and their quoin stone sets.I scratch built the windows from strip. The Hornby station kit was treated the same way by replacing the walls with Wills stone and Quoins. If I do build Minehead it won't be for quite a few years as there are 3 other layouts planned which all form one big magnum opus in my garage.Regards Shaun.

RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted November 17, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 17, 2015 Thanks for that young man. Well observed! My get out clause is in the small print at the bottom of all my posts!! The steam gala weekend didn't get very far did it. Must take some more pictures soon. Jock67B
Morning Shaun, Had an alert on 'topics I follow' about some action on this thread only to discover that there wasn't much new when I got here! However, I was tempted to check out some of the excellent images from earlier in the year and that was reward indeed!! I've been messing with some wagons lately, and your set from June above gives me a great deal of inspiration, thank you mate. Kind regards, Jock. PS has Mrs Squatch got her dream kitchen yet? RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted November 20, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 20, 2015 As promised. o-4-2 1479 gets shunted with a train of vans including a "fitted head". All but the brake van are from kits. Next arrival is a double headed pulman. Nice long shot. The drivers eye view... And yet another unwanted guest in the train room. YUK! More later......
Jock67B
Shaun, Lovely set of images, although that 'beastie' would cause Joanna to freak out - she calls me if she comes across a spider, even a small one! I think the post and wire fencing on Dunster is probably the best I've seen in 00 anywhere. Hope the 'little darlings' that you are going to let loose with controllers, don't do too much damage over the weekend. Kind regards, Jock.
RMweb Premium Bogie Posted November 20, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 20, 2015 I really cannot pick which is the money shot - damn they are all good (except the last one of course). Where I live we have problems with Geckos - an introduced lizard species - that seem to have adapted very well to modern urban living. They roam across my layout at night knocking over items not glued down.

The little scorpion is nothing to what usually gets in there. At least there's plenty of match stick fencing to keep them off the permanent way. Youngsters will be well supervised. I must build a small cage platform for them to stand in on!! I really cannot pick which is the money shot - damn they are all good (except the last one of course). Where I live we have problems with Geckos - an introduced lizard species - that seem to have adapted very well to modern urban living. We had a black widow problem earlier this year, not to mention a mouse, praying mantis and various wasps some of which like building mud nests. Next train in is an Ivatt tank running light engine with a Southern brake van. This is a Cambrian kit not the Bachmann version. Here's some pictures of stock I built for Dunster (scratch that) I just like building stock. First the Ratio bogie van. A bogie rectank wagon. Easy kit bash from the Ratio bogie bolster. A soda ash wagon from the age old Parkside kit PC01. A rake of three plank dropsides. Late summers evening. Another of Mrs. Sasquatches gardens. (I wonder if she'll be happy about all the council rows I've got planned for Grim-up-North).
