RMweb Gold russ p Posted December 13, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 13, 2016 Is there much going on up there now? About four years ago I was up there a lot but haven't been much lately
RMweb Gold big jim Posted December 13, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 13, 2016 seems to be, crossrail, hitachi etc use it, we have to be locked in at the north end when they are running, funny to be in rural nottinghamshire and see a crossrail 345 unit flying past, even weirder on the double track section to run alongside s-stock (although im used to that from my chiltern days on the MET)
RMweb Gold russ p Posted December 13, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 13, 2016 Sorry Jim I thought it was the high Marnham track. I did wonder when you said north! That picture looks very much like near tuxford. On another matter the guy in the picture of 099 is Hugh Phillips is it not?
RMweb Gold big jim Posted December 13, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 13, 2016 I googled tixford and noticed it was nowhere near old Dalby but never gave high marnham a thought, never been there, only heard it by name Yes it is hugh phillips in the other pic
RMweb Gold russ p Posted December 13, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 13, 2016 It's not bad at high Marnham, the main place is Tuxford and there is a model shop right outside the gate. Where is Hugh based now? He was on EWS then on GB when I was there. He is a decent bloke. I knew I knew the bloke in the picture
RMweb Gold Ely_South Posted December 13, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 13, 2016 north end of the line beyond plumtree Great pictures - In 1993-95 or so; I used to live in a farm cottage within sight of your middle of nowhere shots when I was a student - I used to wander up to the test track regularly, although as it was the early-mid nineties there was b**ger all going on there in those days. Well before electrification of the section up to Stanton Tunnel of course. Shame I don't live there now - Perfect for seeing unusual stuff Cheers Rob

RMweb Gold big jim Posted December 14, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 14, 2016 just a few iphone pics from last night, tyseley to stratford, back to rowley regis, up to banbury, back to bordesley (all at 30mph) and away to derby maiden solo voyage on the north warwick, nice and sedate run there and back tyseley lost the headlight at spring road so put the emergency one on, luckily the DBSO carries one that is always on charge rowley regis the lead coach is an ex royal train one op stop at dorridge and that was it piccie wise, as i say all the way to banbury and back to derby and done, that SHOULD be my last day in this year with annual leave but watch this space!

RMweb Gold big jim Posted December 26, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 26, 2016 Some from last night, been standby by in london to work trains over the chilterns in connection with the work in Paddington, as it happened I had to work one from Ruislip to Hinksey via Banbury Got a new iPhone 6, these pics are from that as I've not bothered with my proper camera today West Ruislip, 70809, the driver who got off then took my van to Hinksey and i met him back there, I had to take the train as he didn't have route knowledge over the Chilterns And into Banbury, 70801 "Donna" on the rear, fired up and ready to go And into Hinksey and shut down That was that apart from having to drive the driver back to Kensal rise
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted December 27, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 27, 2016 Home at last! Some from last night, 2 trains, one from Greenford to Hinksey and then Hinksey to Crewe, nice to drive a 60, 66 and 70 in one shift! First up was the Kirow crane and side tipping point wagons from greenford to Hinksey via banbury, had an EWS 66 on it, typically yet another Bachman ltd Ed 66, 66077, only managed one pic of it though Through to banbury where I change ends and fired up the 70, unlike the previous night this one was stone cold so t took 35 mins for the compressor to get to temperature to kick in so I ended up having to sit there until I could get the air back Chiltern 165 Into Hinksey where I left it on the reception line for another driver to deal with, went and prepped the 60s and then headed off to Crewe And into Crewe And home to bed!

cal.n
I thought you would be the right person to ask, is the 'purple glow' produced by the infrared equipment on the cab end of NR DBSOs RTOVs (9807 and 9814) visible to the human eye or does it just show up on cameras. Just thinking whether to model it with purple SMD LEDs or not bother. Callum
acko22
Callum, The IR lights are visable just to the naked eye, but they are very dim and to be honest I wouldn't bother they are that dim they would barely be noticeable if at all when it comes to modelling and trying to get a light that dim well difficult!
