Guest 2750
After debating costs of travel etc, I've decided I'm going to head down. Plenty of bits and pieces I could do with so it's worth me going.
RMweb Premium t-b-g Posted September 12, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 12, 2013 After a full day working on the fleet of Malcolm Crawley GNR locos, I can rest easy tonight as we will have enough to work the layout. A combination of locos that haven't run in years, together with the fact that they needed fitting with my home made auto couplings meant it went down to the wire. At least two seem to have missing domes but I am sure they will still be doing some Stirling work over the weekend. If you make it, to what looks to be a cracking good show, please come and say hello to us on Mansfield GN, Tony

Guest 2750
Slight change of plan. Tomorrow I had planned to go on a 'dog family' walk, with our Lass's siblings. Lass has been vomiting for the last 48 hours and after a visit to the vets this morning, the diagnosis is she has a vomiting bug. Therefore she wont be doing the walk, and is staying with Dad so I'll be coming down tomorrow. Didn't fancy the weather on Sunday if I'm honest, M60 and torrential rain aren't a good mix. DerekEm8
Hall almost all set up. 1 Layout and a few traders to arrive in the morning - so looking good. It seems like half of RMweb is here or due to arrive over the weekend I'm a bit biased but we have all the constituents for a cracking show, the only thing missing is you. Come and say hello. (I'm the one with Exhibition Manager's badge on) See you over the weekend.
RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted September 14, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 14, 2013 Anorak greased, sweaty shirt retrieved from shed, rucksack packed - oops, sorry, wrong show. Just off for a shower, see you later when I've found that clean shirt.
Torr Giffard LSWR 1951-71
Excellent, excellent show guys...well worth the 1hr drive from the Staffs Moorlands and members entrance fee. Loads of components purchased from the comprehensive trade support. A great opportunity for a chinwag with some old friends and a chance to meet a few new ones too inc. learning a little of the scenic techniques used by the Retford boys. Favourite layouts inc. Stainmore summit, St Merryn and Cheddar. A lovely way to spend a morning Hearing good things about 'Black Lion crossing' Geoff...will be looking out for the next show to feature it. Guest 2750
Very enjoyable day today.I drove down with my fellow Dales companion clecklewyke.Got all my bits and pieces (although I bought 4 etches of hand wheels from brassmasters and ended up depositing them throughout the hall...retracing my steps I found 2 at least).Could to see chrisf and enjoy a drink with him on arrival. Had a long chat with Roy Jackson which is always a joy and interesting.I was what only can be described as accosted by MartinWales and Worsdell Forever, and the next thing I found myself sat in front of the EMGS Stand signing up to the Society! Seriously though it was good to see you two! Enjoyable chat with Durham Light Infantry, as we hadn't seen each other in some time. Look forward to seeing you up at Locomotion some time.Had a set amount of cash to spend, didn't think I would spend it all....and typically I did.Very glad I was able to make it today. Debs.
What a lovely friendly show..........highly recommended! Here`s just a few pictures of subjects that caught my eye: General overview of the hall (larger this year) - Glenuig (I loved the detail, compact-concept and superb loco sound) - Liverpool Crown St. (a real location well known to me; a great atmosphere and 'feel') - Hebble Vale (very accomplished architectural modelling and setting) - Diesels in the Dutchy (nicely diseasally) - Greyscroft Mine (finely modelled and accomplished)- All the layouts were great and the numerous traders all gave a good account of themselves. The show organisation was excellent; top marks to all concerned......."A great day out!".......we rode the Routemaster bus to the station and back too; friendly crew and a lovely experience! tender
Just back from Expo EM North. Great selection of quality layouts in both EM and P4. Signed up membership and spent far too much money. Well worth the trip across the border (Welsh). Steam Railmotor on Ynys Ybwl Signal box and Goods shed on St Merryn Cheddar
MartinWales
An early start was rewarded by a smooth journey and return Good to catch up with several people - the Scouse mob/Durham Light Infantry and Worsdell Forever. Also good to see Karl Crowther's new project Even managed to sell more than I bought So impressed, I'm going back there tommorrow en route to County Durham and a short break! RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted September 14, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 14, 2013 My first Expo for six years (I've been abroad) and well worth the trip from darkest mid Wales. I too signed up as a member (again). Even with my obscure interests I managed to spend some money - and sold a few surplus items. Also gathered some really useful ideas from exhibitors - which is half the reason for going. And we nearly had an impromptu meeting of the Chilterns Area Group (when I lived there it was Mid Herrts but it has spre4ad its wings) who mostly seemed to be there. Congratulations to all concerned. I'm glad I wasn't asked to choose my favourite layout as I don't think I could have. Perhaps Mansfield because there were chairs so you could see it at eye level. A definite date for 2014. RMweb Gold Savoyard Posted September 14, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 14, 2013 I had an enjoyable day playing bus driver and then helping on the LYDCC DCC demo table. It's an excellent exhibition with a fantastic line up of layouts and a great selection of specialist trade, it is well worth a visit and not to be missed! Not miss it if you live locally you won't be dissapointed. We ran a couple of extra trips in the morning but traffic started to build up at lunchtime so we kept to the hourly timetable, tomorrow will remain at hourly as the trains are only hourly. I was able to modify one of the route numbers (N82) to a number more appropriate for the event!
woodenhead
Looking forward to visiting tomorrow, early start if I want together there around opening. Hmm, get up at 9:30, leave house at 9:55, arrive at 10:00, it's a long way from one side of Davyhulme to the other! Wish all exhibitions were this close to home.
