At last, all three fiddle-yard boards are in place. The site is not letting me put the photos on one by one but hopefully all is self-explanatory. The first shows the third board and then two views from either end. Two roads in the part you cannot see remain to be connected. The middle board needs to be straightened out as does its supporting left-hand leg.

Now that the fiddle-yard boards are more or less finished, a start has been made on the gradients to get to the scenic part of the layout. These will rise at 1 in 100 and here are some photos of the first metre. The gradient sections are basically H girders an idea I pinched from Gordon of Eastwood Town fame. Thanks Gordon.

Does anybody know why I cannot put the photos where I want them?

Jonathan,

I like what you have done so far.

'Cannot put the pictures where I want them'?  How do you mean?  I browse and find a picture, then attach it.  I then type what I want above it, give it a couple of 'Enters' and then 'Add Post' and it is added to where the cursor is.  Not had a problem so far.  This does not mean that your system on your computer will not just be awkward for the sake of it, see my post in AV.

Hi Chris, my posts with photos shows them as "thumbnails" after the text. Before the attachments used to get an address line of the photo in square brackets so that you could write some text add photo put some more text and add another photo and so on. Hope this makes sense?

Jonathan,

It makes sense and what you describe as used to happen still works for me.  What are you doing differently?  Are you using a different reply button?  Different computer.

Bright idea icon!  Bottom left of the page is the 'Change Theme' link.  It should be 'ticked' on 'RMWeb 2013.'

If any of this fails, to sort it out, I'd phone a friend(ly administrator)

Test post to see if changing theme to RM 2013 works.

Yes it does! I can put pics anywhere I want, with text above,

Jonathan,

Really pleased.  Someone else told me this little fact, Kal I think.  It sorts out all manner of things although I am not sure why it changes in the first place.

More of the gradient has been tackled and is now on to the straight. First a shot of the start of the bank.

Where it's got to so far.

The bucket of screws is to stop any overshoot on to the floor by my test train of Jubilee and seven bogies. All good so far.

The gap in the chimney is in sight and the rise in the framework meets the level quite nicely.

I managed to get a temporary bit of track down after the last photo was taken and the Jub and train tackle it with no slipping.

Great to see the progress you're making, Jonathan! You must be very pleased that your roof space is finally being used for what it was designed for!!

A couple of questions.

What's the radius of the lovely curve in post # 135 and how easy if the access - below the joist - in post 127?

Nice work. I'll start to look-in more regularly!

The middle section of the Down loops have been laid and wired.

I don't know if you have come across these sticky pads which take cable ties, but it certainly makes keeping the underside if the boards tidy.

We use these in work everyday and they do fail given time.

However if you buy the ones as shown below you can put a small self tapping screw through the middle before you put the tie wrap through and that saves any problems.

Hi Jeff, hope the new home is shaping up well.

Do you mean this one?

post-16241-0-34807800-1406394746_thumb.jpg

AnyRail doesn't give a radius for it as it's not a continuous radius but must be over 6'. I can get my hand under the purlin to rescue any derailed stock and can reach to the back loop. I also have one of those litter-picker things too.

Yes, that's the area. As long as you can get your hand in, that's fine.

As for the curve. It looks around 70 - 80". The main viaduct on Kl was around 70". There's something very satisfying watching a loco and wagons/coaches go round a long, wide curve.

House progressing well. Been in there for over 4 weeks now. The final carpet will be fitted on the stairs this Tuesday and over 70% of the initial boxes have now been sorted.

Hi David, I've had no problems so far as I put a dab of No Nails on each one!

The gradient up to the chimney is now self-supporting and the tracks have been wired.

A view from the other side. I must practice getting the straights straight for when I hit the visible sections.

A start has been made on the rising gradient from this side of the chimney. Having one fall and the other rise makes the gradient more noticeable.

And from the other side.

I have built the section that will go into the corner and placed it roughly where it will go. The final placing will be higher though.

I can now build the straight section from the chimney to the curve. Then it's on to the scenic board!

I got the straight section made last night and put roughly in place balanced on top of my bin and two bits of insulation foam.

The scenic bit will start on the upper curve here and lead into the double junction on the down side of the station.

A view from t'other end. That track is not fixed down!

Hi Chris, the Veluxes face south so there is maximum natural light but will need blinds to protect the layout and stock from fading etc. there are four lamps lighting the room but I want something more friendly than unshaded ecolamps.

The end of the rising gradient has been more or less finished and is at the correct height. The double junction template has been put in position and the track bed of  the gradient will need adjusting to fit.

Hi Andy, it's not really woodwork, or as Jeff knows as woodwork, more like mdf work. I see Larry had trouble with warping ply, at least mdf is more stable.
