Show us your scratchbuilt building

Thanks Allan, BT4 and cornamuse.

The station buildings and footbridge are the first buildings I have made, so I fell back on techniques I became used to when designing etched kits to draw up the laser cut parts. The station building roofs also have etched brass canopy brackets and valances that I designed based on LNWR drawings.

As a bit of light relief to all the finished buildings on the thread, here's one under construction. It's based on Steven's Corn Store, which was at the end of Bodmin North (LSWR) station down in Cornwall. It's being made from plasticard for my 7mm layout Pencarrow Bridge. Still lots to do but this is two months worth of on and off modelling time. This is my first attempt at a 7mm building and this is a monster at 750mm long.

All the stonework is hand scribed and the roof tiles individually laid. The painting is mostly primer with an experimental patch of colour added to see how it looks. Still lots to do.

Lots more photos and text in my Pencarrow thread from page 93 onwards.

Oh, here's a close-up of a patch of scribed stonework painted up as an experiment.

This quality modelling, inspirational museum quality stuff sir, I applaud your attention to detail. Copying a prototype often produces the best results.

LNER modular concrete hut based on the one in Bury St Edmunds.

I think this large scale stuff is cheating....sooner or later someone is going to take pictures of a 12"/1ft garden shed and display it here as a large model with a giant hand photo-shopped on to try and fool us....

Only joking, Brushy, that's a great model of something that lots of people would not consider taking that much trouble over. Nice to see a ledged, braced and planked door made properly.

Here is my first scratch-built 2mm scale building. It is made from cereal box card and a few off-cuts of mount board. It is covered with scalescenes papers, the drainpipes are plastic rod and the cable runs are 0.33mm handrail wire. Windows are strips of address label on clear plastic packaging. The fire hose and db board are from other scalescenes kit and the roof is a plastic moulding. The steps are made from squares of 1mm mountboard painted with a concrete colour.

It is based on the building just off the end of Platform 1 at Westbury, but is a mirror image to suit the location on the layout. It is designed to be a yard office/mess.

(unfortunately in this pic the cable run from the db board on the front looks like the edge of a badly placed piece of paper - but it isn't, honest!)

It is approx 30mm wide, 100mm long and around 50mm tall.

Well, it may not measure up to some of the models on this thread, but here is my latest scratchbuilding effort anyway, based on a shed at Haymarket depot in the '80s. It's been shortened and narrowed to fit the space I have available, but hopefully it retains the character of the prototype building. The interior has been detailed and fitted with working lights. All signs are fitted using blue-tac and so can be easily changed for a change in period.

Chris that it is awe inspiring stuff... the angles, the stonework, the roofing, the colours...it's all  just so beautifully done! Makes me want to go to Cornwall... ;)

Love it. Nothing better than a perfectly I mperfect scene, wonky tiles included. Love the stonework and your colours look great too. Do you have a thread on this?

Thanks for the kind comments Peter. The build is included within the thread for my Pencarrow Bridge layout from page 93 onwards. Try this link http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/69736-pencarrow-bridge-stevens-corn-store-pg93-post-2308/?p=1928699
