RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted October 2, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 2, 2013 The likelihood of someone tweaking something and dashing around the back of the layout just as advanced ticket holders begin their invasion march is quite high I would say. Traditionally other exhibitors and trade can be found wandering around before a show opens; beware, if you go near BCB you'll probably be given a job. I needn't worry then - judging by what I can make of local access and train times I would have to leave home the night before in order to get there by about 11.00 on the Saturday as our first train of the day doesn't get me to Peterborough station until 10.15 then it's a question of 'hunt the bus-stop' and a 'bus at reputedly hourly intervals. Ah well no doubt BCB will be at the next Ally Pally show but it is interesting to see just how inaccessible some of these shows up the East Coast are when you need a 3 hour train journey (each way) as part of your day. chrisf
What has happened to the demonstrators? This is the term that most of us use to describe experienced modellers who sit at tables, talk to customers and pass on skills. Last year there were at least half a dozen, most of them well-known to inmates of RMweb. Now when I go to the relevant section of the website all I find are references to lighting the layout, ballasting and electrostatic grass. Should the providers of these services or commodities not be more correctly described as 'traders'? Chris

RMweb Gold tetsudofan Posted October 18, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 18, 2013 For those taking the bus from Peterborough to the Marriot Hotel it's quite a walk from the hotel to the entrance to the showground - I know I was staying at the Marriot last year and walked to the showground. The place is car-friendly but certainly not pedestrian friendly. Unless entry arrangements have changed this year, in order to get the entrance to the show you have to walk the entire length of the showground and then have to hang a left and walk through the carpark to get to the the entrance. Luckily it was not raining when I did it........ Enjoyed the show last year but unfortunately can't make it this year. Have a good time!! Keith As well as the Marriott hotel, there's a Holiday Inn Express on the Showground site with a Harvester restuarant next door. There's also a very good pub just down the road at Alwalton that does an excellent range of beer - if you're coming off the A1 from the north, you'll pass it. admiles
Could some kind person let me know the adult admission price on the door please? Every link to what I assume is the show's website doesn't work for me. Tried and failed to get advance tickets...... The IT dept behind promoting this event should be gently reminded that the idea is to make it simple to prospective customers to find information, not a difficult as possible.
