Melangoose
You may have seen some pictures taken in the summer when I had a request to take some pictures of 50149 Defiance and appropriate 1988/1989 stock on my layout Melangoose (which is based in the privatisation era cira 2000). On a couple of the pictures was my recently completed model of 50019 Ramillies in the Laira blue livery. Having taken and posted the photos, Ramillies was put in my display cabinet, where I kept reminiscing about my trainspotting days (1989/1990) when Bristol Bath Roads Departmental DCWA pool was made up of mostly class 50's (seem to remember also in the pool were 50008, 50015, 50023, 50031, 50032, 50036, 50042 and 50046). Dug out my photo albums, as I knew that I had a few pictures when spotting at Bristol Temple Meads (the anticipation as you walked through the subway to platform 12 wondering what 50's would be about). 50004 & 50019 50004 & 47's 50015 & 50031 50015 (before Celebrity status) 50019 (my favourite) So with the big layout upstairs is temporary re-sited to the Bristol outskirts circa 1989/1990 so Ramillies can have a run out As Ramillies comes into view (running light) she passes a stabled 56043 awaiting its turn on a binliner later in the day enters the station as a class 108 for Bristol Temple Meads departs this is what 50019 is here for, to pick up these empty ballast wagons from Easton Road PW Depot as Ramilies couples up an immaculate 47/8 passes on a service for the Southwest (shame about the state of the Mk1 buffet) a class 150 passes on a local service ready to depart as a parcel train heads towards Paddington as we head through the station a class 108 picks up passengers and a Fertiliser train passes in the other direction brought to a stand by a red signal as a 125 passes non stop through the station finally given the road and depart for Bristol East Yard as speed gathers a metals 37/7 comes off the Industrial Estate branch Hope you have enjoyed my little trip down memory lane Nigel
pitbull1845
Like it Nigel, the layout suits the Bristol area.. I have fond memories of Bristol TM. I even spent a night there watching the intense mail activity wit the TPO's coming and going. Great stuff. Shame I didn't take any pictures... Had a look through my Bristol pics, I have a good amount of locos and passenger trains with a little freight. But I did find these:- Parcel Pilot Class 47 arrives with a Parcel train & 125 on Platform 6 125 Passes the Parcel Depot "look at all that Parcel stock - Those were the days" Nigel
50030
Loving that 50, I'm guessing its a renumbering job from 50008?
Melangoose
Loving that 50, I'm guessing its a renumbering job from 50008? Yeah she is lovely, since finishing her in the spring it has become my favourite loco. Really getting into the DCWA Class 50 Bristol scene (wouldn't mind doing 50032 Courageous with blue nameplates in a beaten up condition). You are correct that 50008 was the original loco, renumbered and renamed. The yellow and black stripe under the right hand cab was a challenge, have initially done it as a label on my PC (as no transfers are available), but the yellow fades really quickly (as in about 4 or 5 months) so I am looking for a better method. 50019 Ramillies & 50031 Hood in New Yard, 50031 has just been posted into the DCWA pool since the end of Class 50's being allocated to Old Oak Common. another view of New Yard 50031 stabled at the old goods dock (now used as an S&T store). Couldn't resist putting a Badger line bus on the bridge. Nigel
RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted September 30, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 30, 2013 Hi Nigel If you go down the bespoke transfer route with one of the manufacturers count me in for the flashes to share the costs.
Melangoose
Hi Ian I think the transfer route will be the best. I have to get some scenic transfers done for my Wessex Trains class 150. So will add some yellow flashes onto the order. Nigel

P.C.M
Great pics Nigel, I mentioned to Ian the other day about seeing 50019 working a passenger train out of Exeter St Davids back in the day. The layout is looking good to, Can I ask how you power your Hornby class 142 Pacers as yours seem to run well in your latest DVD. Thanks Peter. Melangoose
Hi Guys Mike - Thanks for the info re the flashes Peter - The pacers are through wired which makes the run a little better but along way behind current standards Andy - will try and take some more pics of the layout with 1989/1990 stock but the layout is shortly to be dismantled to let way for x2 bedrooms to be in the loftspace. I will do anther thread sometime as I have hundreds of pictures with privatisation era stock on the layout. in the meantime I found another Bristol Parcel pic think its about 1989 Nigel
Melangoose
Hi Guys Took a few pics last Saturday Due to weekend engineering work Bristol Temple Meads to Paddington services were diverted on our route. A pair of 125's pass the disused platform (the 1970's rationalisation can be seen clearly) 37711 Tremorfa Steel Works awaits the signal 47612 Titan with a cross country service passes a stabled 47535 37427 pauses at the station with a Cardiff Central to Weymouth service 121 Bubble car at the station as a 125 passes through 50019 Ramillies with an engineers train passes a 56 with refurbished container flats (most probably for Avon waste containers) 33102 with NSE stock on a Football Excursion as Portsmouth play Cardiff in the FA Cup quarter final close up of the station hope you like the pics Nigel
P.C.M
Nice pics Nigel, The new location suits the layout well, love the Crompton and 37/4. Thanks for the info on the Pacers, mine are through wired but just run really bad. I may try a remotor kit. Cheers Peter.

Melangoose
Hi Guys Thanks for the comments, unfortunately the layout is about to be dismantled the loft space is to be converted to a couple of bedrooms. But hopefully will be back in a smaller version in a year or two. I do have my Melangoose layout to concentrate with (which has just had a new fiddle yard - will post some pictures on the Melangoose page sometime) Peter - Good luck with trying to get the pacers to work smoothl., If you see the layout Battersby North End on the exhibition circuit - pick their brains as they have a very good pacer. Regards Nigel

Wayne 37901
Hi Nigel, Have just come across this while searching on the forum. I thought I had recognised the layout from somewhere before, it's nice to see sectorisation stock back on it though. Any current news with this one? Kind regards
Jules
First time I have seen this as well - great layout 9shame it had to be dismantled), and great pics of Bristol TM - I wish I had made an effort to visit it back then.
