HI Ray

Looking very good mate, looking at the building it looks very like the standard Southern design with a few minor changes

Keep up the good work on the layout!.

I found this photo for you of the station building, when it still had it's extension on the left had side, hope you find it of some use.

love the photo of Mr Jobsworth ,did you get permission to take a photo of him!  :mosking:

Nice looking station building Ray. Just a bit of a shame that you are only going to build part of it - would make a great model!

I know what you mean about taking photos. I was at Exeter Central last year taking a few photos and one of the staff came over to me to ask what I was doing. To be fair he was very pleasant about it.

Hi Ray

Looking at the photo i put up the block on the far right looks like it was added at a much later date, the two small windows next to it look like these are part of the public toilet.

I would check that this newer looking part was around in the period you are doing, just a thought.

MORE UPDATE

I have done more work on the upper level on the right hand side. It was built with 3mm thick ply and 0.8mm ply, the uprights are 3mm cut on the band saw to 15mm high the top was cut to the right size to go on top. The MOD loading platform at the front of the layout is made of again 3mm ply for the uprights to 20mm high and the top 0.8mm ply again made to fit on top. The brick work is of the Peco flexi brick and the platform edge is of the same cut three rows of brick to go on the edge, all of the wood was glued with PVA and the brick work I used UHU.

The bricks was painted with very light grey, brushed on and wiped of the top the bricks to leave the grey for the mortar then dry brushed the tops of the bricks various browns and used mat black for the weathering.

The ground at the front I have put PVA glue down and sprinkle ash on top with a small bit of birds cage sand.

The side of the slope I have bedded in with ballast and latex glue as you can see the glue is still wet.

That looks very good now you have the platform and ramp in, helps to fix better how it will look.

Good work!.

Darren

I'd agree. The platform gives the layout a better sense of the sidings and a purpose for the tracks being where they are!

I have been busy doing scale drawings of the station building. I worked it by counting the bricks on the photos, the size of a brick is 210mm x 70mm so if you count the bricks horizontal so you multiply 210mm by the number of bricks, it works out the same vertically (70mm x the number of bricks). The windows are going to be etched brass from Geoff Taylor.

This picture as it says 1989 and the building has not changed. I am going to model from the left side (toilet block) to the centre of the apex in the middle of the building. Hoping the mirror on the right side of the layout will extend it further.

This picture was taken I would say in 2004 going by the Renault Clio, in this picture there is a new booking hall, it was not built in 1989 but it is a better picture than above. This new building and the toilet block is not there know as you can see in the picture below, I took the other week.

The drawing on the left is the front and the drawing on the right is the side of the centre part with the apex facing the car park.

The left hand drawing is the porch at the front of the main building which is the entrance to the booking hall. The other drawing is the front of the main building and the side of the porch with entrance to the booing hall on the side.

A small update I have been busy with the station building the photos show the construction so far I have the entrance to make, so far I am pleased with the way the station building is turning out.

I have also made the buffer stops and got them in place, They the Lanarkshire Models and so easy to build, and also I have been busy on the ground cover. I used ash and very fin sand mixed and put down on PVA glue I am waiting for the glue to dry before I hover the lose up.

Hi Ray

Well I must say even with the ground cover looking wet it look's amazing, that is how a yard should look like, you have got the colour just right!.

The station building look's very good as well too, the toilet block would have had a wood and glass roof on it during the steam period, I well scan you a photo I have showing the roof.

This is looking very good mate and is going to be stunning once you Finnish it, keep up the good work and photo's coming.

All the best

Darren

Hi Darren

The photo I have of the building taken 1989 when you looked closely on the toilet block it does not look as if it has been altered so I guess it has a flat roof or the glass roof is behind the facing wall.

A small update on the station building. I have put the lintels and the widow sills in place. I am still waiting for the widows to come so I can put them in place then I can make up the roof and put that on.

In the first picture on the right hand side there are two half windows I have done that as that will be going up against a mirror on the back scene so then it will show the windows as full ones.

HI Andy and Mudmagnet

Thank you for your comments.  I have done a bit more yesterday and now waiting for my windows to come so I can put them on and put the roofs on and the paint, so while I am waiting for the windows I think I will make a start on the goods shed.         :sungum:  :sungum:  :sungum:
