That runner with the 03 is an odd one; it's not the normal Conflat L or Lowfit. Is it a Demountable Tank chassis? Very useful to have a high-level shot like this for modelling purposes- thanks.

Yes, pretty certainly a Crosfields tank chassis. The full number is not readable, but TDB74940x is readable. York had a couple of these. TDB749402

http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/brdemountable/e99085fa and TDB749411http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/brdemountable/e2e0c027b But I don't think this one is one of those. It is written for Holbeck TMD.

Paul

Unidentified Class 55 "Deltic" Doncaster, circa 1975.

Edited to say: I suspect that this is september 1972, pre-tops, the loco being 9004, "Queens Own Highlander".

Hello Jeff,

Just a thought, the unidentified deltic pic might be earlier than '75 as it appears to have pre-tops numbers?

Number '21 at the Cross is a good 'un - Thanks

And you are right, I suspect 1972, and the loco is 9004, "Queens own Highlander"...I have found a pic of my best mate, now sadly no longer with us, standing next to the cab. We had taken my little sister to Donny to see off a friend who started uni in Newcastle a week before my sister went to Manchester.

Class 52, "Western" diesel, 1056, Western Sultan" at Plymouth. 23/5/74

Hi Jeff.

More superb photos thanks. By enlarging, the Western at Plymouth is D1040 Western Queen. D1056 had the extra cab ventilators under the windscreens.

Hi Jeff

Headcode says 1A89 - suspect that's not right as rigid but long wheelbase vans in train - looks like a parcels working to me - PMV & SPVs - 4A89 might be more appropriate

More cracking photos, thanks for sharing

Cheers

Just a few odd ones tonight.

Just to show that Frodingham did get SOME clean locos, class 46, 46007, looking almost ex-works, rests in the evening sunshine at the west end of the depot, 26/5/75.

A couple from Didcot, the trip was yet another Merrymaker, it went to Oxford at Easter, there was hardly anything open, and it was cold and wet. When the return arrived back into the station at Oxford to pick us up, the waiting passengers on the platform cheered.

Yep...Waterloo could be an interesting place.

I spent hours on the platforms Easter 1966 watching Bulleid pacifics, Standard fives etc. Cabbed a few.

Sadly, none of my few photos survived.

A 25 on a passenger train at Didcot?

It's a pity the headcode is not visible, but the loco has a recess for a tablet catcher. Weren't they Scottish locos?

Maybe it is a returning Merrymaker, or something?  - I am a little flummoxed.

Nice photos. I particularly like the 74s. My own railway career started a wee bit too late to see them in action. I'm not one for wish-list frothing, but they'd be at the top of my list in 4mm/OO. Alas, my kit-building skills are such that it's RTR or bust for me.

Well that is something else I have learned from this thread, I must have seen 25s with the tablet catcher recess before, but never paid any attention.

I now see 7611 - 7623 (25261 - 25273) were built with the recess and went new to Scotland.

They all came back south, in my 1970s spotting books they are all London Midland allocated locos, at Bescot, Toton, Willesden and Springs Branch,

Thanks for that info. I'm not quite so confused now.

I have blown the image up as best I can and the number looks like 2527?  (maybe 0, 1 or 2 - it is difficult to make out).

If I peer very hard at the headcode box, it does appear to be 1E??. I suspect that it must be a Easter dated service from the south coast. Easter Sunday was March 30th that year and the weather map shows a cold Easterly wind, so sympathies to everyone who was out and about trying to enjoy the holiday.

Absolutely - that's a no heat loco!!!

And a single type 2 on a class 1 working was not common, But the passengers on this train were probably not the only ones to suffer - according to the Sulzer type 2 site there was a maintenance staff dispute at this time and all sorts of loco workings were disjointed.
