The control panels for the fiddle yard are complete and scenic boards are now 75% wired and tested. Station control panels have had LED direction indicators fitted.

So a few photos of testing on Chapel. More photos next Thursday as we intend having a full testing session next Wednesday afternoon. Once that is done and dusted..scenery commences!

We weren't using prototypical trains as we just need to test the wiring etc.

Of course once we did that..

we had a number of watchers.

We had noted some problems with one or two points so Mike Edge fettled them tonight.

He even brought a newly finished test build loco for push along testing

and he noted the shunter left in the goods yard..

Layout looks good and so does the clubroom. Wish I could say the same about some of the old codgers...

Dave, fingers crossed but everything so far is good.

Proper test next week should sort it.

The buildings are well on the way. Signals are OK it's just ballasting and scenics to do..oh, and a facia. And lighting... And write up....

An intensive testing session undertaken today.

Having filled the fiddle yard (but not to capacity)

post-7650-0-50769900-1470261994_thumb.jpg

and placing some wagons in the goods yard and cattle dock we started by running some freight trains

post-7650-0-38938300-1470262014_thumb.jpg

and  keeping freight on the move

post-7650-0-54310700-1470262024_thumb.jpg

Mike Edge decided we needed to test the goods yard so a "Target" train was despatched from the fiddle yard

post-7650-0-23955400-1470262046_thumb.jpg

First problem .. no power at the front panel.. once fixed more testing was undertaken.

The Fiddle Yard control panels have been changed since the last show so we tested that thoroughly

post-7650-0-35658900-1470262032_thumb.jpg

Then a test of delivering items from the cattle dock siding ..

post-7650-0-29833200-1470262063_thumb.jpg

While the double slip allowed us to get out of the goods loops it needs more work to be totally satisfactory as Mike spotted where the problem was...

post-7650-0-52062500-1470262054_thumb.jpg

We then had some new operators to train..

Nice. You need me there to empty those yards a bit. How did MDE fix the double slip? I can see a pair of pliers but no hammer...

On a more serious note, how do you mark the fouling points on the fiddle yard roads?

Mike used his flatty pliers and a soldering iron. A new slip will be built to replace the current one.

The two strips placed at each end of the fiddle yard are the indicators (which act as road identification signs for each road) for where you need to stop locos. You can see these in the fiddle yard pictures.

The second train can be buffered up to a train already parked in a storage line.

There are a couple of sidings with a potential for trains to foul others so you need to stop with the tender back just under the road identification sign.

While you can have 4 freights in the up and down loops out the front (permissive block working), two passenger trains in the station and a pick up goods in the yard the fiddle yards are too big for even you to empty. And we have some more dead ended sidings to lay in the yard.

Ah I see. I like to identify the fouling point for each track individually to maximise the available space.

The real train lengths (due to the nature of the line) mean we can get two trains in most of the fiddle yard tracks.

Passenger sets a 1,2,3,4,6,or 8 vehicles long, block freights can be longer but still allow space for smaller trains to occupy each road. The photos have a less than full fiddle yard hence the spare space in front of the bars above the tracks.

Biggest problem is getting Mikes' Blue Pullman the right way around. Ian has a Bachmann one which causes even more bother due to the length of pick ups.

So, while I was taking stock off the layout and I just happened to have a few locos to test..

First up Byron, a very old DJH Britannia now in need of a rebuild and a replacement gearbox..

post-7650-0-29989000-1470329205_thumb.jpg

After Byron went round with an 8 coach passenger rake, some diesels appeared..

post-7650-0-67446400-1470329292_thumb.jpg

From the left a  Clayton on a test train, a Peak and a Forty on passenger service duty,  and a Triang Type 2 on a fitted goods train.

A bit more of a view of the Clayton... mixed LM stock on an 8 coach train... seems like the Clayton ( A Dave Alexander kit built by Nicktoix) may have, like many other, expired..

post-7650-0-00308900-1470329299_thumb.jpg

And a shot from the cattle dock towards the station

post-7650-0-63112000-1470329318_thumb.jpg

Next thing was a Heljan CoBo on  a test train

post-7650-0-03377400-1470329331_thumb.jpg

So a quick note of one particular pair of coaches.. and LM built articulated pair

post-7650-0-22653300-1470329345_thumb.jpg

And it took over an hour to get the stock off the layout

More testing... while we await a new double slip to replace the one on the cattle dock siding more testing has been undertaken.

First up the "number boards" at each end of the fiddle yard

post-7650-0-93445400-1471622240_thumb.jpg

and the other end

One of our members has been detailing a Hornby 8F using the Brassmaster bits

post-7650-0-63790200-1471622251_thumb.jpg

and, of course, when trains are moving we always have some watchers
