modelman14
Hello all. I`m new on here,so HELLO to all!! Thought I`d upload some images of my N Scale Layout, loosely based on the WCML(still got catenary to install) and no particular era. A rake of Pullmans permit use of Preserved Diesels, particularly like Intermodal/freightliner traffic and Class 37`s,they`re all there! Moving to O Scale after this is finished, may take some time though!! A repaint of the older Farish 37,suprisingly good runner though! Nearly finished scenic area. Another of 37418. Looking down the main,Western Champion approaches with a railtour. Western Champion waits for the road. Bridge over the slow line station area. DRS 66 approaches on Intermodal. Looking down the layout. Hope you all like?
RMweb Premium Claude_Dreyfus Posted February 3, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 3, 2014 Looks good...I particularly like the 'lean' on the 66 as it rounds that curve. Very neat trackwork as well... How big is the layout?

RMweb Premium Claude_Dreyfus Posted February 3, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 3, 2014 That is a nice size you have to play with. I presume the rather full sidings behind the station area (picture 6, with the National Express coach) are the fiddle yard.

Yes,thats correct, but could do with more sidings,as you can see they are rather full!
RMweb Gold Revolution Ben Posted February 4, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 4, 2014 Hello there, Nice set up. Do you have a trackplan? Also, what's the eventual aim scenically? Is there any lineside industry or other featurs you're planning to incorporate? Thanks for posting your pics! cheers Ben A.

Cheers, sorry no track plan but basically up and down main and slow lines, with station/halt on the slow lines.Couple of cross overs from the main to the slow. Scenery wise there will be a gradual build up to a city outskirts, the Church is the area with all the greenery. At the other end of the layout there will be a small yard, with an eventual DRS theme with Flasks coming and going, still a bit to go at!! Just looked at your group layout, very good! What distance have you got between OHLE masts? Cheers

RMweb Gold Revolution Ben Posted February 4, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 4, 2014 Hi there, My research (which was not particularly exhaustive) suggests that on straight track the masts/portals should be no more than 330mm apart in 1:148 scale, but of course around junctions, tunnels and bridges there are different arrangements. We used the Dapol masts mostly because they're very cheap (£4 for 10) and they bend if accidentally brushed (which happens a fair amount!) They just fit into the baseboard with moulded bolt and wingnut, so are easily replaced if they snap off! The portals on the station and at the junction were a combination of N-brass and StatesmaN. The station portals are correct WCML types, but the Dapol masts and the other stuff are more representative. Also, having studied OHLE track layouts on the birds-eye view function of Bing Maps we decided to leave out any actual wires because you can barely see them unless they're silhouetted against the sky and on a practical level it makes track cleaning a lot simpler! cheers Ben A. Might get the simpler ones installed and leave the others till last, just to get a start!! Thanks again...... Yes, that's what we did. We started with Dapol masts in the station area too and around the junctions then substituted them (we hadn't glued them in, just screwed them) when we worked out what portals we needed/could get/could afford. cheers Ben A.
