The oil and gunk on the chassis of the 08 looks superb Paul, I think mixing the powers and both matt and gloss paints really gives a good 3 dimensional rendition of the build up of grime.  I've been looking at a lot of locos at the Bluebell lately for reference photographs and your technique here is the closest match I've seen to recreating that level of grunge!  Good job!

Hi Alan

Thanks very much, I've been trying for a while to get that grungy oily look and at first I was using black gloss, which looked good but not quite right. So for the 08 what I decided to try was weathered black and powder followed by a thin coat of clear gloss varnish with a little more powder applied to it whilst it was still wet. I think this looks great and the best result I've had yet :)

Only problem now is I need to go back and do all my previous locos!!

Thanks again for the great compliments

Paul

Just a quick update, thought I best make a start on the n gauge 37 that way I can get that and the 47 back to their rightful owner as soon as possible!!

A bit of n gauge masking before I give it a full yellow end.

Cheers, Paul

Just a quick update, as some of you already know, the 'railway room' is in my aunties house due to the lack if space in ours, so until we move progress has been pretty slow on both my threads, hence the quite a few updates one minute then not much done for a week or two. But this weekend I'm going to me moving all my weathering and detailing to ours so hopefully there will be more regular updates and a lot more progress on this thread (fingers crossed!!)

Many thanks

Paul

Well I started to sort out all my weathering gear, and got a bit sidetracked :( as I'm hoping to have the junction on my layout up and running at the weekend, I took a look at my 47, as this is going to be the test loco. As this was one of the first diesels I weathered it looked a bit bland, so off came the bogies and ten minutes later it's looking a bit better!! :D

Still needs a little but more oil and grunge adding though but nearly there.

Cheers, Paul

Hi

Managed to get quite a bit done on the n gauge 37, I went over the body with the fibre pen to give a slightly faded look then gave it a good dusting with light earth on the body and black on the roof. The chassis was then done in the usual manner but with a little more light earth.

Cheers, Paul

Hi, couple of pics below of my 47, I'd finished weathering that before the others as I wanted to use it as a test train on my now up an running junction :) there's a short video attached to, just thought it would add something different to the weathering thread.

Hope you like pics and enjoy the video.

Nice work Paul as usual - Good sound on the 47.

Cheers, Bob.

Thanks Bob, I really do like the sound of Biff's 47, I had a play with Hornby 08 today to an I know it gets a lot of criticism but I don't think it sounds that bad, I'll stick the link to it below, thanks for the kind comments as always.

That's one dirty Duff!  ;)

Nice videos too! Your Hornby 08 does sound much better than mine did.. I had mine reblown by Biff to a 47, its a version 3.5 sound chip so I do not have the same start up as yours but I am happy to have it over the Hornby 08 sound.
