Well after a great night with the kids I've managed to add the shawplan headcode discs, really impressed with them :) sorry nothing more got done guys and it's nothing to do with the cans of Bud in the background, they belong to the mrs honest :D

Cheers, Paul

Yeah, ok Paul, course they do   - but a man does need something to keep him going when he's modelling.

Cheers, Bob.

Bit more done tonight (with the help of some modelling fuel - Bob ;) ) I've done the first weathering on the bogies, I'd painted them black gloss originally as I was going to have it ex works, but that idea soon got booted out of the window!

Apologise for the unplanned reflection selfie!!

Once the bogies were given there first course of weathering I gave the body a dusting of light earth, once this was applied it was seeled and brushed off using the fibre pen.

Couple of pics so far of the body on the boggie sides and of the front ends, hope you all like em.

Cheers, Paul

Managed to get an hour free so I've have the bogies another dusting along with the body, then the usual sealing and brushing down with the fibre pen. The bogies still need the detailing added and a few touch ups to the body etc but it's getting there.

The pics below make it look very earthy but it's a lot darker in reality, also this is just the body and bogies, if anyone's wondering why it looks a bit weird ;)

Cheers, Paul

Big thanks for all the compliments, just wondering does it need a little blast of frame dirt with the airbrush or is it good to go as it is, maybe with the odd oily bit added? Bit undecided on this, what do you all recon?

Hi, had another free hour so I've done a little bit more to the bogies, I've added silver to the rear of the buffers which will need a bit of a touch up and I've just added a few finishing touches to the bogie sides, so I'm quite happy with the way their looking. I've also painted some brass tube white, this will be cut, bent into shape and added to the bogies to represent the steam heating pipes. Then next thing to do will be to add the steam heating pipes, screw link couplings and vacuum pipes etc then give them a slight weathering, this should be the bogies done.

The photos below show the brass pipe painted and ready to be cut, and a few close ups of the bogies.

Cheers, Paul

Looks very good to me too Paul.

Will D270 have water tanks fitted?

An airbrush would give you more definition of the bogie details.. brush painting mixed with powders can look a little thick and heavy therefore loosing detail in all the muck. You have done a great job weathering your bogies though!!!

As for oil stains, I use Badab Black from Games Workshop. I picked up some more at the weekend only to find it has now been renamed as- Oil !!!

Sorry Steve should of said, thanks for the tips an info regarding the airbrush it's to early in the mornin (an I've had a lay in!). I know what you mean the powders do give that build up of grimes apposed to what you get with an airbrush. I might give the lower body a slight brush over with it.

Thanks, Paul

Well I've just managed to attach the extra pickups, I've used thin phosphor bronze wire soldered to the original pickups. I was hoping the vacuum pipes etc would of arrived today so I could finish the bogies and reassemble them but hopefully they'll come tomorrow. If not I've still got the tanks to weather and the buffers etc, so there's stuff to be getting on with.

Couple of pics below of the new pickups and a rather clean under frame!! The wheels have been given a coat of frame dirt to.

Cheers, Paul

Evening all, I've added screw link couplings and the various vacuum pipes, all I need to do now it's fit some mu jumber cables, a bit of tidying up on the weathering and adding the sound chip and she's all finished! :)

Again I've really enjoyed this one and I'm really pleased with how it's looking now it's all back together. Hope you like it an please let me know what you think. Once the sound chip is fitted and it's all finished I'll do a video.

Cheers, Paul
