Photo of almost completed Tribometer Van,

Needs a couple of littel bits of tidying and then satin varnish.

Transfers are from Railtech and these have an amazing amount of detail on them which is not easy to see with the Naked eye

Painted the white lines in the car park I think it really changes the appearance.

Update on Hydra.

Having almost finished the paintwork I decided to add directional lighting and purchased small units from Black Cat Technology,  www.blackcattech.co.uk.

These have provide very easy to fit and wire up but as they are I tended for a class 121 the lights are at a slightly different spacing, I tried just drilling out the original light positions but this was not very effective. I have therefore re-drilled new holes in a different position to match the lighting boards and then used small length of brass tube.

Couple of photos below, there is a little bit of light bleed through the old holes but these now need to be filled and blanked out.

This ismage shgows the lighting board at an angle so that it can be seen

Have now finished Hyda, lamp irons, buffer beam detail and etched brass windscreen wipers have all been added.

Very please with the result although I must say that the close up photos show up every little imperfection which you don't see when viewing the model normally.

Have started on the replacement office building to the RTC site.

This constructed out of plastic card sheets for the front and the lift/stair tower, the sides are a combination of 1mm plywood and Plastikard brick sheeting, The floors are generally from 3mm MDF the roof is 2mm plywood as I made a slight mistake with the floor to ceiling height when cutting out the main sheet for the windows and I wasn't going to start that over again. so to gain headroom used a thinner roof.

Still got a bot more painting and the windows to add will then start to populate the inside adding furniture and people.

Photos of construction.

First picture shows the first floor in place.

Next Picture from back shows second floor being added.

Final pictures show the model in its current state on the layout.

There are some good photos of similar cranes in the book "Wagon Recognition by Martin Buck and Mark Rawlinson", (Departmental Wagons and On track Plant volume 2 Car Kinds Y- Z) brought my copy from a show for £10 very good reference book.

The book "CIvil Engineering Wagons Volume 3" contains three black and white photos of a  self-propelled Heavy Duty Twin Jib Crane as produced by "marksmodels"

Pete,

We obviously had the same idea how is your model progressing?

I have a few further images showing the bodywork in progress. I decided to not trip back to bare paint as there was not much change to the cab ends and main roof.

I have now sprayed IRIS  and applied gloss varnish ready to receive transfers but noticed I needed to change a few details on the ends before applying transfers. Will post photos another day as I have just realised I haven't taken any since painting.

I have now started on the latest prototype project LEV 1, Railbus

I am going to use a Hornby pacer Chassis cut down.

Front and rear cabs along with roof will come from two Leyland Nationals (EFE cheapest I could find from E bay)

the roof will be cut into two and spliced in the middle, the joint above will be masked using the air conditioning unit taken from the roof of the pacer.

I will use the pacer sides as the windows are a better size than from the Bus. Detail on the bus is not particularly fie probably due to the moulding process.

Photos the components assembled together before cutting begins

Photo of Iris

Ooh very nice ... I have just picked up a Westdale single car lightweight kit to do an Iris in 7mm, I have just ordered the transfers from Railtec this morning, does anybody have any info on what internal equipment and seating was on the prototype ?

Happy modelling

Craig.

Few more photos showing progress on Lev 1.

this is a picture showing the first stage of the body in construction.

post-19340-0-77974000-1434880279_thumb.jpg

This is the chassis after being cut in half and a short section removed to reduce the wheelbase, it is shown with clamps in place.

The chassis was clamped against a set square to ensure it glued in place straight, another set square and weights were placed on top but these obscured the chassis from view so have not posted that photo.

This Is the chassis when removed from the clamps and with the wheels fitted.

Detail to cab ends has been added needs repainting now.

The exhausts are made from aluminium tube and the base of the exhausts from the donor vehicle.

the speakers at the top were carved from a piece of plasticard and a 0.45mm wire which is then fixed into the body.

I have added more details and tried to disguise the moulding below the chassis which houses the large metal weight.

I have found some photos of the inside of LEV 1 via the internet and will be modelling the interior as best I can given the constraints imposed by the ruing gear. the seats are taken from the bus model as these are closer to the correct configuration.
