LongRail Posted August 4, 2015 Author Share Posted August 4, 2015 John I thought about the bulges above the windscreen for some time and for the period my layout is set lev1 was already in preservation I have seen later images with them re,over so that is how I decided to model it for my layout but with the paintwork in a new condition I will weather it later . I must admit I didn't realise what they were for and always look like some strange add on. Not sure what protection they would offer in the event of a crash. I'm not at all sure if it actually ran on BR metals with them installed before it was shipped across the Atlantic. On other things, the Tribometer train van was one of the ten HSFV5s and should have Taperlite springs to be totally accurate, but that'd be quite difficult I suspect. There's one of the the vans still at the GCR North at Ruddington, which still has the Taperlite springs. AFAIK the other eight were changed back to standard springs some years ago. Re 'Iris', she was running on the Dean Forest Railway earlier this year, albeit in passenger carrying mode and in BR Green, and I took a ride on her, very nostalgic. 6 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Having recently been scanned (by modelu3d.co.uk) and 3d printed finally got myself painted, 3 sizes here 1/32 for a scalextric layout belonging to my eldest son, 0 guage to put on a shelf in my office and a couple of 00 models to put on my layout. Very pleased with the results even if it does make me look bigger than I think I am, then again they say the camera adds 10 pounds the rest must have been added via the 3d printing process 5 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

LongRail Posted April 22, 2017 Author Share Posted April 22, 2017 Latest Project Underway prototype HST Using a new Hornby 125 and a white metal cab obtained from Genesis Kits . After cutting the nose off completely I decided to use the cab doors from Hornby 125, still need some modification to the cab door windows and switching to opposite sides as the doors hinged from the other side on the prototype but it will give a much better appearance than those on the white metal nose. OllieTurrellDRS Posted May 21, 2017 Share Posted May 21, 2017 I have now built a copy of the gauging rig which was used at the RTC to calibrate the optical car this is made of brass square section, 2mm square for the frame and 1mm square for the members. I was going to hinge the side sections as per the original but it got rather fiddly and decided that as I would probably never actually close them that I may as well model them in the open position. The base will be hidden by ballast and I need to add the limited clearance signs and line side telephone. Targets were added to the fixed frame in later years but don’t appear to be thee in the early 90’s unless anyone know differently Few photos below before and after painting, looks a bit rough before it was painted. After fitting a new grill into the model I realised that the version I was modelling had the grille removed and the air horns visible, opps. Nearing completion now and on layout I am also producing one of the mk3's have a photo of this at the RTC so thought I would model one to go with the test train. Easy conversion new Hornby Mk 3 coach with the window frames sanded off Not finished awaiting intercity transfers and will then replace the windows. I also am modelling the APT power car which was tested using the HST power car. It ran with test coach 5 and test service car 8. I have test car 5 which was produced for Modelzone I am having dificulties finding photos of the roof of the APT power car so if anyone has nay please let me know 8 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
