I then spent a bit of time helping to run the Module layout, which despite some 'interesting' wiring ran pretty well, while other members got their hands on Tim's by now famous Pasties, which were excellent as usual! In fact, while operating said layout I managed to capture quite a conflab going on:

That was no ordinary conflab for the three of us in the background but a detailed teach-in on the purpose and siting of facing point lock bars - yet another 'benefit'(?) of the Taunton get-together (probably).

Thanks to Jack for sorting out an elusive wiring glitch on "Portwey" for me.

No worries, twas good to be able to help.

You should have got an award for that shirt you wore yesterday. :jester:

An award?????  More like a custodial sentence!  Its taken me over a week for my eyes to recover enough to use this computer ;)

After seeing Portwey and the others BlackRat was right, there really is no excuse not to build a micro layout, even if you are short on space.

Hopefully we'll be able to time it so I'm down in the Wet Country next April.

I'm sorry this has taken so long, but we did raise a total of £432.51 with the catering and the auction at the last Taunton Members Day, and here is the letter I received back from The Railway Children, in acknowledgement:

Where did you manage to find the boats?

Believe it or not, they were on a tourist-tat stall at a street market here in sunny East Devon perhaps 4 or 5 years ago.  Again, believe it or not, the Wills Yard Crane kit on the quayside behind cost almost as much as the two boats put together!  There were 2 on the stall & I was trying to decide whether or not to part with good money for one of them when the stallholder made me an offer it would have been rude to refuse as long as I agreed to take both off her hands.  End of season clear-out, I think - either that or she was after my body & just trying to lead me into it gently (which I think was highly unlikely!).

In reality they're probably nearer 3mm scale than 4mm, but they do look the part as long as you don't put a Captain Birdseye figure (other fish fingers are available) alongside the wheelhouse door.  Anyway, it's my trainset so rule 1 applies.

Tormouth Quay will be at Willand (near Cullompton) in September and at Taunton in October, so as you're not too far away you can come & see them first-hand.  Make yourself known if you do and you can have a shunt while I go for a look round.
