Good evening, David. That’s a most excellent selection of photo’s of Paris from April, 1983, which your Dad took. In J7919, at Paris Gare Montparnasse, with BB25245, on a train to Quimper, you have a delightful three quarter front view of the locomotive, with it framed by  the tall buildings.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

love the original orange/black TGV - a design classic from when any high-speed trains seemed so futuristic and exotic, much like the production HST.

Even into the '80s, Lima had a TGV in their catalogue - i used to drool about having one running off overhead wires!

All I can say about these photos is that Dad took them in Paris while he and Mum were staying with some French friends there in April 1983.

A lovely selection there, David. As others allude, the TGV is by far the most eye-catching but there's plenty of interesting traction in the other photos as well.

In J14591 I think the station name board has dodged the question as it's just saying Widdrington!

Very nice. I like the colour contrast between loco and coaches in J7907.

Good evening, David. That a most interesting selection of photo’s of the former Derek Crouch Opencast site at Widdrington, Northumberland, plus those of Widdrington station - as stated the station sign just says Widdrington. The last photo’ of a MklV DVT leading an up express passenger train in February, 1994, shows an interesting weathering effect above the cab. It will be good if someone can reproduce that on a model.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Good evening, David. That’s a most impressive set of photo’s of the High Dyke branch and the ex-British Steel lines which went to Market Overton via Sewstern in the short lived preservation days. In C1630, at Sewstern, with Avonside tank engine,  Fred, on the 16th June, 1974, it’s interesting to see such a small engine hauling a Pullman car. Also, to the right, you can just see what appears to be an ex-NER 13ton hopper wagon.

The photo’s of Wooden Gates, to the south of Alnmouth, on the ECML in Northumberland, are excellent, and in C13840, with a HST, on an up express on the 4th November, 1989, shows one power car in Swallow livery, and the other power car in Inter City livery.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Good evening, David. That is a delightful set of photo’s of Nottingham Victoria station from about 1949 to 1953. The first photo’ of A5, 69817, on a light engine movement in c1952, is a most excellent three quarter portrait shot.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

I was looking at what looks like white precipitation on the firebox and the rear of the boiler, presumably caused by water dribbling down from the safety valves. Do you think it is that, or a trick of the light, or something in the processing?

It could be scale as you suggest.

Looking at the image I suspect it may be a mark on the print.  At the moment the print is not easy to get at or I'd have a look at it.  I've put them up in the loft out of the way while I sort out the stuff I am bringing home to go through from Mum's.

Thanks for these - just shows what I missed in my late teens / early twenties as I had other interests but lived just a few miles away at Grantham and didn't know anything about this location!

Good afternoon, David. That’s a remarkable selection of colour photo’s which you have posted. Each one is a gem. That first photo’ of Stanford on Soar, with a BR class 5, 73157, on a Marylebone to Nottingham Victoria service in September, 1964, is excellent with the well weathered class 5, and it’s great seeing your Mum in happier times complete with that picnic hamper.

The last photo’, of York, with class 47, D1784, on an up goods train in December, 1966, shows how well the two tone green livery suited them.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

And I think it is the first colour photo I have seen of one of the railbuses in revenue earning service.

Jonathan

It's another day I remember well.  We had left home at first light in Dad's Morris Minor, Mum and Dad took it in turns to drive for an hour each, they always tried to do at least 30 miles each hour.

We got to Tetbury and Dad decided to stop and look at the station, Mum as always was happy to go along with it.  A few minutes after getting there the railbus turned up.

After taking the photo we got back in the car and continued on or way to our hotel at Bigbury, in Devon.
