Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of the London Tilbury and Southend line, between Leigh on Sea and Chalkwell. In C1816, at Leigh on Sea, with a Class 302, on an up service, in October, 1974, you have an excellent view of both the train and vessels in the water. A charming view.

The photo’s of Newcastle, in the mid 1980’s are a superb set, and C7800, of 37182, on a parcels train, on the 1st August, 1986, is an excellent portrait shot of the 37.

In the black and white photos on the Midland, that is a truly excellent set of photo’s. In the last photo’ at Loughborough Midland, with Jubilee, 45566, Queensland, on a down express passenger, c1955, you have a delightful view of the train, and the way the carriage roof has weathered is of interest from a modelling point of view.

Finally, the photo’s of Little Bytham, on Stoke Bank, are a delightful selection, and J2384, with Class 47, 1565, on the up 09.50, Harrogate and Bradford to Kings Cross service, The Yorkshire Pullman, in September, 1970, being a colourful sight with two Pullman’s still in their original livery, and the BG in blue and grey.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

I think you are right, many thanks.

For once it isn't my typing error but Dad's notes,

Good evening, David. That’s a delightful selection of photo’s of Carnforth on 8th August 1987. C8799, of two, two car class 108’s, with car 54245 leading, on a Lancaster to Barrow service, it is an excellent shot, and shows something quite unique. On the secondman’s side, instead of the usual overhead live wire warning sign, in the window, there are three very small ones instead. I wonder what was going on?

The photo’s of the L.T&S, around West Horndon, are an excellent set and show the electric units going about their everyday work without any fuss or fanfare. In the last photo’, of a class 302, leading a Fenchurch St to Shoeburyness service , in May, 1976, it is a great shot, and the rear unit can just be seen to be a class 308, with the non driving motor luggage van.

In the photo’s of the Great Central line to Grimsby and Immingham at Barnetby, from 1977, 1991 and 2000, you have a superb selection. In C15886, with 56066, on a down empty coal train, and 56081, on an up coal train, on the 30th May, 1991, you have captured an excellent scene of the two trains, along with some young spotters on the platform ends.

Finally, the photo’s of Edinburgh, taken from the bridge across the railway in Princes Street gardens, are a fantastic set, with the first one of Class 37, 6849, in August, 1973, being a superb shot of the train in the lovely surroundings.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Good evening, David. That is an excellent set of West Highland line photo’s. In C6876, at Mallaig Junction, on the 11th May, 1985, you have a splendid view of the junction with plenty of detail to be seen.

The photo’s of the Blyth and Tyne, between Newsham (Blyth) and Bedlington, are a superb selection, with C6437, at Bebside, with 37099, on a down permanent way train, on the 4th March, 1984, being an excellent three quarter portrait shot of the locomotive from track level.

In the photo’s of Germany, at Kehl, just across the River Rhine from Strasbourg, on the 13th August, 1990, you have a delightful and atmospheric set. The first photo’ of 181 220, hauling a Strasbourg to Offenburg service, is a beautifully composed shot of the locomotive.

Finally, the photo’s of Pilmoor, on the ECML, north of York, are a delightful selection, and in J1311, of Class 47, D1106, on a down goods train, in June, 1968, your Dad has captured a most excellent near head on portrait shot of the locomotive. It can be seen that the first two tank wagons are sparkling in new paintwork, and must be empty.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Good afternoon, David. That is a most impressive set of photo’s of Allington Junction on the Grantham to Nottingham line. In the first photo’ of Allington junction signal box and level crossing, in February, 1982, you have plenty of excellent details to be seen. Just right for modellers. Photo’s J2147 to J2149 inclusive, show how the railway flows through the countryside in a natural way, unlike motorways which always seem to cut through it.

The three photo’s at Brinklow,  and three from Beamish, are a fascinating selection, and the last photo’ at Beamish, with a  Sunderland Tram and Foden steam wagon, at the entrance, on the 1st April, 2023, is a delightful composition despite the wet weather.

In the photo’s of the ECML at Burton le Coggles, you have a superb set, and they capture the way BR was back then perfectly, and make an excellent reference of  ECML express train formations. In C1134, of a class 47, on the 14.20, London King’s Cross to Leeds service, in August, 1972, the seventh vehicle can be seen to be an ex-Gresley buffet car. The solebar, the waistline, and the position of the door for the catering staff are all clues to its LNER origin.

Finally, the photo’s of the Great Eastern at Boreham, are a delightful selection, with C1957, of a class 37, on an up parcels train, in April, 1975, being an excellent example of a parcels train formation. All BR design stock, but no less interesting.

With warmest regards,

Rob.
