RMweb Gold Market65 Posted October 13, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 13, 2023 Good evening, David. That’s a superb selection of photo’s of the ECML at Dry Doddington. In C3120, of 31147, on a down parcels train, in December, 1976, you have taken a well composed photo’, and, in the freezing conditions, the parcels train is clearly that long owing to being not long before Christmas. The photo’s of Carlisle in April, 1987, are an excellent set. In the first photo’ of 47606 and 31120, on the 14th April, 1987, you have a well composed shot of both locomotives, and the 47 is a little careworn. That’s a great selection of photo’s from Southern lines, at Deerton Street, then near Headcorn and finally Hollingbourne, in 1976, and 1979, are a delightful selection. In C4632, at Hollingbourne, with Class 411, 7157, on a Margate to Victoria via Maidstone working, in July, 1979, you have a well composed photo’ of the unit on a solo working. Finally, the photo’s of Meadow Lane crossing, just east of Trent, on the line to Nottingham, and Newstead, on the Mansfield line, are a splendid set, and full of nostalgia. In the last one at Newstead, with Fairburn 2-6-4T, 42290, on a Nottingham to Mansfield service, in October, 1964, your Dad has taken a most delightful and atmospheric shot in the October sunshine, of the very dirty locomotive. With warmest regards, Rob.
35A
A quick zoom reveals C4257 to be 45 104 "THE ROYAL WARWICKSHIRE FUSILIERS" - one of the handful of class 45s that could easily trick you into mis-identifying it (at a distance) as a class 46, due to the ventilation grilles.

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted October 14, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 14, 2023 Good evening, David. That’s a fascinating mixed bag of photo’s. In C2847, at Westhouses, with a Class 45, on an up express passenger train, in July, 1976, you have a well composed photo’ and the first carriage has it’s roof covered in diesel particulate. The photo’s of the Midland Railway, with three on the Nottingham to Lincoln line at Lowdham and Gonalston crossing, with one at Matlock and one at Attenborough between Nottingham and Trent, are a most interesting selection. In the first photo’ at Lowdham, with a Class 120, on a Derby to Lincoln service, in October, 1975, you have taken an excellent photo’, which also shows the overhead warning sign on the driver’s cab windscreen instead of the secondman’s windscreen. Also you have captured the man wheeling his bike perfectly. That’s a great set of photo’s from Ausria, at Innsbruck, on the 5th August, 1991. In C16167, of 1161 002, you have a most excellent photo’ of the electric locomotive as it appears to be shunting some carriages. How the mountain towers in the background. Finally, the evening shots at Wolverhampton in 1976, 1977 and 1980, are a splendid selection. The last one of 87014, on an up light engine movement, in October, 1980, is a beautifully composed shot, and a cab door appears to be ajar. No lights are showing either. With warmest regards, Rob. RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted October 15, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 15, 2023 (edited) Before I post the next batch of photos just a quick note. This morning I realised (and was firmly told by a GP at the out of hours service) that I need to rest for a while to get over an infection. As a part of this I will post 2 sets of photos rather than 4 sets each day for the time being. These photos are around Loughborough Central on the Great Central line to Loughborough. Popular Post flapland
Thank you Dave for the dedication to daily posting, but please do take it easy as instructed by your GP. I am certainly happy to wait a bit longer between posts and for them to be shorter if necessary. Your health is far more important. 24
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted October 15, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 15, 2023 Good evening, David. Firstly, I hope you make a full recovery from that infection, and posting two sets of photo’s each day is not a problem. As stated before, just post what you can, when you can. That’s a great selection of photo’s of Arnside, and Seascale on the Cumbrian Coast line. J489, at Arnside, with Britannia class, 70005, on a Barrow to Manchester service, in April, 1966, is a superb photo’ taken by your Dad. How filthy the Britannia is! The last set of photo’s from around Loughborough Central, on the Great Central line to Loughborough, are a superb set. The first one, of Class 5, 45405, on an up ecs, in 1953, being a splendid photo’ of the locomotive. With warmest regards, Rob. 1

Almost every year the fields by Radcliffe on Trent flooded but often only for a few days as the river level usually dropped as quickly as it rose. Much further down the Trent on the tidal section north of Gainsborough a friend's farm buildings have the various flood levels recorded by by lines cut into the wall with dates. Fortunately the farmhouse was built on a patch of land a few feet higher than the rest of the buildings. Put yourself first, your health is the priority. Great photos as usual.
