Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of four photo’s on the London Tilbury and Southend and one in Devon, at near Kipling Tors. The first photo’ at Laindon, with 302265, leading a Shoeburyness to Fenchurch St. service, in May, 1979, being an excellently composed shot of the train going about it’s everyday work.

The four photo’s from the Newcastle to Carlisle line and one which is near London, are a superb selection. C3503, at Bardon Mill, with a Class 101, on a Newcastle to Carlisle service, in August, 1977, being a splendid photo’ of a train in the landscape.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

The Pitsea photo some of you particularly liked was a lucky shot, I'd dropped my car off at the garage near Southend East and rode on the train to PItsea where I was meeting a friend who was giving me a lift to work.  I had a few minutes to spare and had my camera with me so quickly took the photo while I was walking about.

Next come 4 photos from the Newcastle to Carlisle line and one which is near London.

It must have taken a few bags of post fix to secure that.  Never seen such a high gate post as that before.

Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of the LNWR. The last photo’ at Birmingham International, with 87028, on a Euston to Inverness express, The Clansman, in October, 1980, is expertly composed with the 87 nicely between the lampposts.

The black and white photo’s of Nottingham London Road Junction are a superb set. JVol7015, of 2P, 40395, running light engine, in April, 1954, is a truly fantastic three quarter shot of the locomotive.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

I'm fairly sure the leading carriage is an ex-LNWR D267 50 ft corridor third (note seven compartments rather than the eight of a standard 57 ft corridor third). These were built both with the traditional Wolverton style of panelling or in the 'toplight' style (with windows in the eves panels above the large widows on the corridor side). I think this is one of the latter style, of which 91 were built 1912-13. [Ref. D. Jenkinson, LNWR Carriages.] So, around 40 years old at the time of the photo.

43019 is not a beautiful engine, is it? Or am I biased through too much studying Sharp, Stewart's products?

Jonathan

43019 is a beautiful loco.  Still has double chimney. You are biased. 😇

The ex Private Trader wagons are very nice, very clear wartime rewriting of the ownership and the closer one with grease axleboxes. I wonder if it ever received a P number - the other is quite an early renumber.

I have to agree. Not my railway, but a thoroughly practical design with maintenance-enabling high footplate. The BR standards followed a similar philosophy. Handsome is as handsome does.

C4388.   Magnificent pair of trousers.   Kim Jong-Un himself would covet those.

The fellow wearing them looks very much like a former colleague of mine.

No idea who he is but I do remember seeing him around regularly at that time.

Is J414 XP64 stock?

They are Mk1 pullmans but it is very hard to see the colours in the light.  The White Rose was a Pullman service to Harrogatefrom 1964 to 1967, it effectively replaced the southern part of the Queen of Scots after it was axed.

Good evening, David. Sorry to be late, but I have not been so well today. That’s a great selection of photo’s of York. C4412, of a Class 40, on a special train from York to Chester, on Saturday, 7th April, 1979, is a splendid photo’ of the 40.

The mixed bag of photo’s are a delightful set. J414, at Arthington, with Class 47, D1543, on the White Rose, from Kings Cross to Harrogate, in November, 1965, is a superb shot in the November sunlight.

If he's who I think he might be, his initials are PAJ if that jogs anyone's memory.

Central ? 😜

But of course back in the day not now.

A Exmouth Jct fitter I knew said as kids they used to see how many times with just a platform ticket (or no ticket) they could ride between St David's and Central on a summer Saturday before getting kicked off

Excellent pictures David,  did green arrow work 2 trains that day . I was on a railtour that day from Middlesbrough to Dinting via Newcastle

I can't remember it's name , the V2 took it from York to Dinting via the hope Valley and returned over woodhead

Seems like yesterday hard to believe 45 years ago!
