August 1975 was very hot, so I suppose working in a greenhouse signalbox was not the coolest of occupations in the middle of the day.

The signalbox at the time was a tiny 8x4ish lean too shed next to the crossing

Some photos taken on the Great Eastern for this evening, once again from 1975 and 1976.  For once there are no electrics.

At te time I was more than a little annoyed when I realised the 47 was going to be in the way of my planned shot, but in the event I still got a pleasing photo.

I never knew Felixstowe handled cars, were they export or import?

Hi, Dave. Love the NYMR photo's which bring back happy memories of the lines early days. Then there are a good set of photo's of the Great Eastern line. I like the one with Green King and the 47, for that did turn out very well indeed.

With best regards,

Rob.

Amazing that Allegros were exported what poor devils had the pleasure of watching them rust before there very eyes they even sent them on open wagons excelerating the rusting and I bet the damn things were mechanicaly crap, as you gather I was not a fan of BMC.

Hi, Dave. I sincerely hope that your mouth where the pulled tooth was is not too painful at all, and quickly heals.

Now, then, some lovely photo's of Thirsk tonight, along with one of Scarborough, which you were kind enough to post on my East Yorkshire thread.

Thirsk station was not actually pulled down, but burnt down! I just cannot recall the year that it happened. I believe it was vandalism that was responsible for the fire.

With best regards,

Rob.

I was most bemused to see one parked on a street in Bangkok about 10 years ago while I was working there, and it was evidently not the only one:

I saw one in Bangkok last year - and a Maxi! There are several old Minis still in use here.

Hi, Dave. Great photo's of the West Highland line between Sean Bridge and Banavie. That overbridge at Mallaig Junction has quite a tight clearance. Always good to see Scottish scenery.

With best regards,

Rob.

Hi, Dave. I like the photo's of the GN line to Nottingham. In the third photo' the unit is a class 114 + class 120. And such desolation in that second photo' of the site of the former marshalling yard at Colwick.

With best regards,

Rob.
