A visit to Fowey and Burngullow

I'm totally bemused by the track configuration in the 3rd from last photo!!!

Presumably, when you inset track in concrete, it's cheaper to leave redundant track in place when you revise the layout than to recover it!

Hence the survival in the SW, at least until recently, of several old dockside layouts, including broad gauge.

John.

Superb shots as usual Captain, the China Clay industry has certainly changed a lot from the era that

is shown in the Wheal Martyn museum exhibits!

Thank you and kind regards,

Jock.

PS Tim, is Burngullow now closed? Doesn't look like the tracks have been used much lately. Like some of the stations we've seen recently in 'Cornwall Today', it looks like a visit by the weed killer train would be useful at Fowey!. Jock.

Most of the yard at Burngullow is Imerys infrastructure, and it is not in use. There is one siding there - Methrose Siding, that is NR infrastructure, and which has a future for loading of secondary aggregates (sand from china clay production). Apart from that, the only rail use consists of dealing with the traffic onto and off the Parkandillack branch.
