Absolutely stunning modelling, just read the whole thread and enjoyed it.

Keep up the Dapol work

Phil

Thanks Phil, pleased you like it :)

you are doing some excellent work Mark.

I've followed all the layouts you've put on here and this one is the best one yet!

I guess what makes it better is the fact that you model the same era as me and I also used to live near Shrewsbury.

Your layout just feels "Right".

Keep up the good work.

Cheers

Mark

Thanks for that Mark, glad your enjoying the thread :). I've been slow on this one with my shift work, but I've made some more progress the last week or so..

I've now built embankments out of paier mache as it's lightweight. This has all been painted & is now ready for scatter to be added. i've also been working on a backscene, some of it is now in place. I enlarged & made to fit panorama images of Shrewsbury, & also some street shots of Chester are to go between the buildings opposite the main station building.

The representation of the river severn is also in place, this is simply made from tin foil cut & glued down. Does the trick for me & looks effective :)

Here are some pictures of how it's looking tonight...

Its all coming together really well Mark, I like the tin foil for the river, gives a nice reflection of the building.

Graham.

Thanks Graham,

I tried foil for the river on my last layout & liked the effect, so thought i'd give it a go here, i'm quiet pleased with it :)

All the best,

Mark

Hi Mark,

I do like the station roof nice job. Just noticed the West Midlands 101 nice touch.

Cheers Peter.

Thanks Peter, glad you like it :).

I'm going to do more work to that particular 101 unit by painting the cab woindow surrounds black so as it looks something like this unit that used to knock around the area in the mid 80's....http://www.miac.org.uk/images/53323.jpg

All the best,

Hi Guys,

Well more progress to show on Shawbury foregate. A large chunk of scenic work has been completed aswell as the ballasting. Still lots to do on the street level area including the reconstruction of the main station building & the sides adding to the road bridge.

I've taken some pictures today in natural lighting to show how it's looking.....

The tunnel entrance under Shawbury 'Abbey', this is where the scenic break begins. Beyond the tunnel is imagined to be the junction for the Hereford & Wolverhampton lines.

I like the layout and especially the provincial blue Class 150s. Are they repainted or body side transfers?

Hi Richie,

Cheers for the great feedback :). The provincial 150's were a repaint by r3resprays I had done a couple of years ago. It's a livery i'm surprised farish havn't done as it was what they all carried from new. I have 4 in that livery in total & 1 in the revised dark blue livery.

All the best,

Mark

Hi chaps,

Well the main station building is now complete & is in place on the layout. Amazing what can be done of a carlsburg lager box haha :P

Here are some pictures of it's construction & the station. Next job is to make signals & sort out the station platforms with signs, screens, lamps & people.

A class 101 2 car set waits at Platform 6 with the Shawbury to Swansea vis Llanelli Heart of wales service. I'm yet to remove the unit number off the front of this & blacken the destination blind as it reads 'Edinburgh'!!

Hi guys,

I've made my first signal gantry this evening. It is my week off & I was hoping to do more with the layout, but it's so hot & humid in the room where it's housed, so made this & gave up with the rest for today. I'll wait till we have rain before attempting anymore.

The gantry was made from a mixture of a ratio signal gantry which i've extended, added ratio fencing around the walkway, & the signals themselves are none working traffic lights from knightwing, which i've painted & glued on the Route indicator made with a bit of plasticard.

Here's some pictures...

The summer saturday 'Cambrian coast express' is approaching Platform 4 with the 17:31 to London Euston, the 15:10 departure from Aberystwyth double headed by Class 37's. The Network Southeast liveried Class 47 in the background waits to couple to the rear of the train to take it forward to Wolverhampton

It passes a 3 car DMU at platform 5 which will follow the 'Euston' with the stopper to Wolverhampton

And finally a jam packed 2 car Class 150 Sprinter departs Platform 6 for Barmouth.

Hi guys,

I'm sorry for the lack of updates recently. Things have taken a bit of a down turn in my personal life so modelling has been put on the back burner. I also have my house sold now so the layout will need to be packed away. When I get sorted in my new place, I hope to set it all back up & get on with finishing off the station.

Hope to be back soon,

Cheers,

Mark :)

Hi Everyone,

Good to be back :D

Well after moving house, unpacking, redecorating etc, I finally got round to setting up my layout, and even doing some modelling :)

I've fitted platform lamps, populated the platforms, fitted information screens, made a couple more signals (still more of these to come) and sorted out the destination blinds on my class 101 fleet  which prominently read 'Edinburgh' & 'Stirling' on them by using a fine black permanent marker & blanking them out. They were too bright when illuminated too

I've also sorted my West Midlands PTE Class 101 unit by painting round the cab windscreens as I remember a couple running like it in the mid 80's, here is my representation....

and also on the layout...

And now for some pics of the station area...

The train approaches Platform 4 past a 4 car Sprinter bound for Aberystwyth waiting at platform 5. The West Midlands PTE Class 101 departs Platform 7 for Wolverhampton, while another 2 car Class 101 can be seen at Platform 3b in the background bound for Chester

Lots more to do, cheers forf now guys :)
