The pic of the ford goes to show how the logos and letterings vary, anything goes really! Question though, does anyone have any interior shots of any of these cew lorries?

I recall a few cases where acident damage repairs resulted in odd positioning of logos, but very rarely from new.

Interior shots, sounds like a chalenge to me.

This is what I mean. Our bus after the cab had been repaired, it was done by Balfour Beaty at Derby. Only the cab was repainted so it got new arrows on the doors and large British Rail on the front. The body retained it's original lettering.

I recall going to Derby to collect it and drive back 120 miles, nice day out by train to Spondon, and lunch at my cousins house before the return at 40mph flat out.

The repainted cab, excuse my appearance.

A glimpse toward the interior, an accurate model of the interior should have a smoke unit fitted.

Merf,

you see something else missing from todays railway, in your second picture, through the steamed window (sounds like playschool......hang on we were working for BR..it was playschool), Donkey Jackets.....what ever happened to the great British Donkey Jacket? I had one, which went on derailments with until we had shiney new orange Bellstaffs given us.

I even remember buying a new Doney Jacket to go to work in, from Wakefields in Birmingham,

Even on eblag, they can cost a small fortune!

I also remember the van at Burton on Trent, used to see it a lot when I used to travel to our HQ at the RTC, there also used to be some astra vans and escorts there too.

Cheers

I recall seeing this artic Transit years ago by Derby station, first photo of it I've ever seen. I can see a model coming up !

Merf.

There is an article on Transits in the current edition of 'Classic van and pick-up' showing a photo of an articulated Transit with a trailer that looks very Scammel-ish.

The yellow BR Atkinson Borderer HLV608P

Lived at the BRS depot where I served my time, it was converted to a recovery truck, I wanted to buy her in 1995 for £2000 but couldn't find anywhere to keep it. She was sold to a haulage contractor in Rochdale and then on to BS Parker in the Midlands.

Been looking for this for ages. This was my office from 1992 to 1994, I picked it up from Layerthorpe Garage in York with 5 miles on the clock, and handed it over to my successor 2 years, 240,000 miles and one new engine later. (There's a reason they put oil warning lights on them...).

The signwriting was done by RRNE Public Affairs after an attempt to blag some REGIONAL RAILWAYS vinyls from Neville Hill stores failed miserably, "REGIONAL RAILWAYS OPERATIONS N.E" on the doors and the "Settle - Carlisle Line" logo on the van sides. It was washed every Friday afternoon without fail by Harold, despite my best efforts to persuade him not to including bribing him with fags. (He used a sweeping brush and was none too careful with it. Bob in the booking office had similar problems with him polishing the station door furniture - the brass lock plates and doorknobs were spotless but there was no paint left on the door for 3" around any of them).

It quickly gained mud and snow tyres, and I only ever got it stuck in a field once. Top speed was 107mph, which I didn't think was bad for a deisel, although stopping was quite interesting, and the heater was epic. Best car I never owned.

Probably just as well the York engined Transits couldn't pull the skin off rice pudding. With a trailer this size behind it and hydraulic brakes of dubious parantage, stopping this little lot would have been an interesting experience.

Good that you found it Stuart. Dispite there being a lot of Astramax vans in the fleet, I never took a picture of one. Loads round our way were in the standard yellow livery.

I liked the diesel Astras too. We had a couple to replace HAs and what a difference. That impressed, I went out and bought an Estate. Did my courting in it, 200 miles each way and no faults.

The tipper truck is a wartime Canadian Dodge. The registration dates from late 1947/early 1948 so I assume it is an ex military vehicle. (The HGO registrations were issued from December 1945 to March 1948.)

Brilliant bit of film, notice the Scarab appearing again later with a different colour Minx. I thought the Dodge tipper was registered HGD, which was a Glasgow registration. BR had some in that batch from c Jan.1950.

Suppose the buyer/dealer may have had it in his yard for a while , all these civvyised Dodges seem to be converted to twin rear tyres on rear but retain the flotation front tyres.

Just catching up with this thread, loads of pics and info ..great stuff. I`m scanning some old slides and some `yellow` appeared in the background on this one ..Millerhill feb 88

One of the 8 seater Terriers as used by P way welders. Scotrail branding on the blue background and one of those posters I have seen before, looks like it could be a map of Scotland?

Fantastic picture, full of atmosphere! The logo does look like like a map of sctland, and there is a back end of a sherpa on the left!

Merf, The picturs of the dodge above are super as well, I have even gone out and bought a donkey jacket!

This morning's interesting flickr find.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/rgadsdon/7523581674/sizes/l/in/photostream/

Peterborough, late 60s .

Bedford KCLC1 134ELR WB5314E of the goods department, but looks like it's in a S&T yard with that material lying around. Maybe transfered or on loan, carrying maybe point machines ?

CDN761C a Ford 307E van in engineering livery, ladder rack so probably S&T.

And behind the Bedford, what looks like a J4 minibus.

The driver as shown is sidesaddle, a legend at OOC, I have never, been down Old Oak Lane and past the Scrubbs so fast as when you went with him, I always caught the 0830 morning Padd to OOC bus, as that gave me time for Breakky in the staff canteen on Platform 1.

The Old bus drivers were legends on the railway, the Tyseley to Saltley bus was driver by Lenny the Lion........all had a screw loose, but would have made great getaway drivers!

At first I thought it was Gabriel in the photo but you're right it's old Sidesaddle himself, the mad b*gg*r of Old London Town!

Anye - do you have a date for that photo...?

I don't think it's sidesaddle - he was a lot thinner than Gabriel and had more than a touch of grey hair. And it's definitely not Herbie, who was much shorter.
