A big double thumbs up for Derails from me.

I’ve used them before and always had great service so when 47628 Sir Daniel Gooch was announced as their Area Reps chosen Loco, I knew exactly where my internet shopping basket was heading to! :D

Customer service has been excellent with update emails as soon as they heard anything from Bachmann, instead of just randomly posting the Loco out as soon as it arrived, emailing to check if a certain delivery date was acceptable to the customer.

Unfortunately DPD didn’t cover themselves in glory but I got a prompt reply to my email to Derails and even an unexpected phone call from Dan to update me after he had spoken to DPD himself.

Top notch! Thoroughly recommended!

I would echo the fantastic customer service I’ve received from Derails. I’ve ordered a number of items and now switched a number of preorders to them as I’d rather give them my £.

Always had prompt responses to my emails and they now ring me up to check when I’m around to receive orders which is helpful to avoid the red we missed you card from the postie.

Five star service.

Cheers Peter

More great service from Derails.

They emailed a few days ago to say that because competitors had lowered their prices my pre-ordered Hornby A4 Woodcock in LNER green would be a little cheaper.

I received a call yesterday and paid the balance.  The parcel arrived today complete with a card in the box confirming the loco had been tested by Little Dan.

Top marks.

I'm thinking of driving up to the shop from Bristol at the weekend. Can anyone tell me any more about the shop itself? Frankly is it worth a visit?

I expect you may well get a response from Derails themselves, as they have already made replies on this thread...

Much as I rate Derails and have spent a good few pounds with them, having done the Bristol to coleford drive myself to visit the shop I think you will find the shop is a modest affair. Nothing wrong with that but if you are hoping for a stellar retail experience, you’ll be disappointed.

OK - I'm on the other side of the bridge any way so it's not totally out of my way. Is there any second hand stuff?

If you enjoy browsing, Hereford Model Centre will occupy you for much longer. Lots of 2nd hand stuff, too. Easily combined with a visit to Coleford and/or the Dean Forest Railway.

Hi there - I think the above comments are about correct, we are a modest affair - and that's coming from me - but I wouldn't want you to travel and be disappointed!

Unfortunately we have quite a small shop - we are based in an old flat upstairs above a café (that we're connected too - Tea & Coffee on tap!) and we occupy three mid sized rooms, unfortunately this does hamper us on the amount of stock we can carry compared to some of our competitors in the region. We stock all Peco track, Wills Kits, Metcalfe Kits, a large range of Oxford Diecast, coaches, wagons and most of the Hornby & Bachmann loco releases from the past 4 years. Because of space constraints we don't have a lot of specialist items or any second hand items, sorry about that. Our small store and the fact it's upstairs does have the advantage of lower overheads, meaning the prices are particularly good though if I may say so myself... ;)

I echo what a few others have said, you can visit other attractions near us to make a day of it if you'd like. As mentioned before the DFR is running it's diesel gala this weekend featuring visiting Warship D832, and as well as that, on the Saturday afternoon the GWR Railway museum in Coleford (about 500 yards from the store) will be open from about 2pm, this is housed in the old goods shed and has a miniature railway, signalling demo plus many local railway artifacts - it's a little gem but doesn't open too often so worth getting in when you can.

Anyway - I hope that helps, and if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to post or PM me. I'm always happy to help, and if you do choose to pop in please introduce yourself and I'll be happy to show you around. :)

(Thanks also to the others that have posted above)

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the honest message! I will pop up - I'm having a bit of railway day on Saturday, so I probably will pop in! Even if it's a small store there are a few things I'm after at the moment that are new so it's worth dropping by for me!

My first purchase from Derails was made a few days ago - and what a most pleasant experience it has turned out to be.

A friendly, helpful voice on the phone and a rapidly delivered, extremely well protected package.

DERAILS - your up there with the best of them.

Hi all. Just a quick post from me. Firstly thanks for all of the good comments recently! Much appreciated!

Secondly, anyone that has been on our site today may have noticed some issues. Unfortunately things aren't looking good, the stock information is correct but it won't let orders be placed. The site was created for 99p by me at age 12 in my bedroom, it's had issues for a while now but chose today as it's day to basically implode. Handy!

We've had technicians working through the day but the 'quick fix' to get things working again failed miserably and now it's almost getting worse by the minute. We are still taking orders via the telephone and via email, but unfortunately online orders are out of action for the next 12 hours at least. I'll provide updates when we're back online again.

For those of you with pre-orders being despatched today (first batch of R3615 Pecketts mainly) then do not worry, our ordering system is not compromised and things have been despatched as planned!

Many thanks for your understanding.

Dan - best of luck sorting it!  I won't bother you about DFR matters knowing you've got issues!

To everyone reading this thread, I can also vouch that the Derails guys are top notch, and very supportive of their local heritage railway.
