It's been a while since I've been on here. In truth I haven't done much modelling lately.

However, the lining on the Crab is finished, so I'll get some photos up here of the loco before I start to weather it. In the meantime, here is a small update on a locomotive kit I am having built for me. I've commissioned a friend of mine to build a Gladiator kit of a Stanier Mogul 2-6-0, which has started to take shape slowly. Here is a photo of what has been built so far.

Enjoy and I'll get some Crab images up very soon  :)

Time for a small rant.

Today I was blessed with a day free to myself, so I thought I'd paint the Crab. I set up the airbrush, mixed the paint and went to spray - but oh no, the paint wouldn't come out, despite the airbrush being cleaned overly thoroughly the last time it was used. So 20-30 minutes was then spent pulling everything apart, cleaning again, making sure all ports and passages were not blocked, etc. Through eliminating what was blocked I finally found it - a very very small part that I don't even know the name of. I cleaned it, made sure the pin could go through from both sides, soaked it in white spirit for a while and then cleaned it again with a pin.

No Luck.

So basically nothing has been done and the Crab is still not weathered. Time to get a new airbrush though, which is a shame. However, this time I'll get a reliable one like Iwatta.

While I am sorting out new air brushes, etc I have turned my attention back to locomotive lining.

2MT 2-6-0 46521 has had the lining applied to the drivers side, apart from the cab (as this needs to be ordered from Fox). Progress is shown below

Severn mill do a cracking set of plates for this one. ( there's loads of them ) I did have this one but alas I had to sell it to fund important things!! Depending on your time period she was a western region loco for along time so would have had WR pattern lamp brackets but this is when she was on the Cambrian. I'm sure she would have had midland ones fitted once she was transferred.

The 2MT looks superb. Is that the Bachmann model?

Scott

Thank you Scott,

Yes, this is the Bachmann Brassworks 2MT. I have two of them, black and green. 46521 is getting the detail attention first and then I will get cracking on the other.

I've renumbered my green 2MT to 46519, as the plate from Severn Mill came with that number. Small shame, but that's ok. I've started detailing the black 2MT now too. This has been given the number 46443 (Preserved on the Severn Valley Railway). This number is also good for Newton Grove as 46443 was based at Newton Heath before going to the SVR.

Photos show progress on both locos.

I've also painted the cab interior of 46443 and weathering will take care of the rest and tone it all down when I get the airbrush going again.

More lining has been ordered from Fox Transfers. The set for the Black 5, Scott and also cab side lining for 46519.

All the locos will soon be complete as far as lining, etc goes. WooHoo!!  :D

Coming soon to Newton Grove 19F...

I've ordered a 9F from Fine Scale Brass and it should be on it's way to me in October this year. The locomotive will be a single chimney version of the class, number 92077. This loco was photographed at Rose grove in the mid 1960's, hence why I've ordered that particular number. I can not wait until it arrives!

Here is a taste of what the model will look like:

I've just purchased a workmans 'Boffy' office & mess facility from Skytrex to use on Newton Grove. It will be placed at the entrance to the shed yard, just in front of the road-over bridge and will help mask the loco's as they come on and off shed. I had contemplated scratch building something, however Skytrex do make good quality models, so I'm happy with this to begin with. The only downside is that it's probably a one piece castings, which means the windows will have t be painted black. Oh well, I'll deal with that.

I'm working on my first scratch built structure in 0 gauge and what will be one of the big items on Newton Grove 19F.

Today I made a start on a road over bridge at the fiddle yard end of the layout. This will eventually hide the two road fiddle yard from the public eye and it is roughly at a 40 degree angle to the board, to hide the fiddle yard even more. I don't like the idea of having a basic straight bridge the just runs parallel to the width of the board.

I'm using 3mm ply for the shell of the bridge and walls and this will be covered in Slaters 7mm red brick plastic sheeting, which I have an abundance of already. I've ordered a steel girder beam from Skytrex and this should be with me in a week or two as well.

Not being the best when it comes to DIY or woodwork, metal work, etc I'm going about this in what ever way comes to mind at the time. The walls are supported with wooden off-cuts of chipboard and 9mm ply that were in the shed at home. The road has been measured and cut to length and width. This was done by using my 7mm model car as a guide, making sure there was enough room for a single lane, then doubling that to have two lanes. The brick retaining walls that need to be built are 15mm thick, so 15mm was added to each side of the road to accommodate this as I build them.

The photos below show progress on the bridge and walls so far.

I've added the brickwork to the face of the walls of the road-over bridge. I will do the inner walls either tomorrow or through the week.

Here are a few photos showing some of the loco's under the bridge.

I've built the skytrex kit, it can be made into a very nice model. The resin castings can be hit and miss though. I was building one of there signal box kits for a mate and had to scrap it because it was awful!!

They need a real good scrubbing as well so the paint bonds.

To be honest I much prefer laser cut kits.

The 9F will be a great addition, you have a lovely collection building up.

Looking good...

Road widths are a bit of a question, "wider that you think" might be a good description, but this might help:

I'm sure there's more on the www, but you'd need to search...

Best

Simon

Thank you Simon,

I will have a look at the website  :)

Hi Steve,

Yes, I can't wait to get the 9F. I'm sure it's going to knock my socks off when I first see it  :D

I know what you mean about Skytrex. I've purchased a few things from them in the past and it does require a bit (and sometimes a lot) of extra work to bang it all together - however for entry level 0 gauge it's not so bad. I've been looking at laser cut buildings I must admit however most of what I have found so far has been 99% GWR rather than LMS/BRM. Do you know of anyone who provides laser cut buildings for Midland prototype?

Thank you for your feedback and suggestions, as always  :)
