RMweb Premium Vecchio Posted October 17, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 17, 2017 (edited) I have this sudden craving for a sound fitted Class 1161! Lots of clunking, grinding and whirring - Marvellous. There are 1161 models from Roco (was a platinum edition a few years (11?) ago, looks like one after I changed all the handrails from plastic to brass wire....) and there is a newer one but 1062 (which was a follow up of the 1161) from Jaegerndorfer. The sound you find at AMW Huebsch under premium sound - it is suggested to purchase also a Zimo decoder with it but Arnolds prices are good. I think the Jaegerndorfer version comes also with an ESU sounddecoder on board if needed. So there is no excuse to have some clunking, grinding and not to forget the characteristic sound of the compressed air switch - on your layout.... And: should you go for an overhead wire - this engine is a nightmare as it has a central and rather narrow pantograph. If the wires are good for this engine all others will work perfectly. Therefore I use my 1161 for catenary wire set-up... Found a picture of my 1161 model on my old Italian/Austrian layout c8 Edited October 17, 2017 by Vecchio

RMweb Premium Vecchio Posted October 18, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 18, 2017 Disentis could be a nice model project. I like the station building directly followed by a goods shed and under C11168 Dave made the perfect picture for the background....

eastwestdivide
C10530 / C10532 - for anyone contemplating a visit, the Göschenen-Andermatt train goes up that gorge (Schöllenen) on the right of the picture - extraordinarily steep, with a waterfall at the top as the train comes out of a tunnel in a sheer rock face. Jan den Haan
The goods yard in Göschenen shown in picture C10510 was originally intended for military traffic as may be shown on a map being part of the specifications for the contractors building the Schöllenenbahn (Göschenen-Andermatt) dated 1914.The whole area is marked as 'Eidgenössische Militärverwaltung'.In this area there are also two warehouses for the army 'Fourage Mag.' and 'Proviant Mag.' on the map). The Schöllenenbahn has been important for provisioning the army barracks in Andermatt. Archive SBB Historic Windisch reference code KDII_REG_2002/010_324 There are in Andermatt still barracks of the Swiss army.During both Word Wars these have been very important for the defence of the Gotthard Pass.On maps in files concerning the construction of the station of Andermatt in the Bundesarchiv in Bern there are also tracks marked as 'Militärgeleise'.The army barracks in Andermatt are very close to railway station.
