Some more photos from Langenthal this afternoon.

The first one shows a wine warehouse just across the road from the station.  It also shows some parking meters.

Mainly Ruti, in Canton Zurich today.

The next time I went there the station was being rebuilt.

There is also one of a ferry entering the harbour at Romanshorn, on the Bodensee.

We are going to leave Switzerland for now, though we will return in due course.

In 1994 I took Mum and Dad to Sweden, as they would no longer drive abroad.  Naturally I took railway photos (as did Dad) around the places we visited, which were in the west.

It was an unusually hot summer there that year,  some of the film suffered a bit in the heart in the car so some of the colours are a bit "off".

We start at Gothenburg (Goteborg), which has both trams and trains to look at. We stayed in a hotel by the station which was useful.

For some reason I didn't write down details of emu's in my slide catalogue and have managed to misplace my book on Swedish traction.

If anyone can fill in the details I would appreciate it.

The electric loco is probably a class Ue (built in the early 1940s, rebuilt late 1980s) - but could be the very similar type Uf (bt. 1955, rbt 1990/1).  From my own observations (the following year) Ue were more common in Göteborg - nos. 585, 593 and 711 all noted in the same livery as in your picture.  If you are able to read the number, I can confirm the specific type.

Likewise the e.m.u's.  They look like X10, X11 or X12.  3141 and 3206 were at that time X10 of the GL-Tåget (different branding from the SJ blue) but were soon after re-classified as X11!  (GL = Göteborgsregionens Lokaltrafik AB - I'm sure you wanted to know that).

C19586: At the first look I thought I see an Austrian 1043 - which were looking like the Rc1 and were actually based on the Rc2. The first 1043 in Austria had even the same colour scheme as the Swedish sisters, just after some time they have been re-painted into the Austrian RAL 2002.

I think it has been mentioned here before, but the surviving nine members of the 1043 class were sold back to Sweden and joined the Rc2 class. They were split between Banverket and the private operator TAGAB.

I know and therefore I do not have a model of the 1043 - it would point to a very limited period of time on my layout (25years of service - 1974 - 2001). They were sold in 2001

(to be honest - I didn't find a cheap model so far so I don't have one....).

A visit to Tanum today.

For those who are unsure of where it is this may help:

Tanum is 143km from Gothenburg and 32 km from Stromstad.  Stromstad is on the west coast of Sweden, just south of the border with Norway.  Tanum is about halfway between Stromstad and Uddevalla.

I'm sure that will make it clear.

Not only that, they were very difficult to find!  A small class and I never figured out where they were working.  They were allocated to Villach (which is where I finally found them at the depot), but being freight locos seemed to avoid the station there (or at least when I was waiting on the platforms).

They were reported having duties on the Tauern line - but again not when I was around!  So 87029 did very well to find two (at least) on that route.

I saw some of them several times on the Semmering pass. This is the same line as Villach - but some 280km northeast. If this was regular service or testing I don't know. I was a teenager in theses days and the 1043 was an interesting loco as normal traffic was dominated by 1042, sometimes together with a 1040 and 1046 for light commuter trains.

And for those looking for a model: there is a Roco one for less than 150€ at the moment. But I will go on holiday in 2 weeks so I stand back  :(

I like the photos of the 1043s, thanks for posting them.

Today we visit a railway museum near Munkedal, not far from Uddevalla.    It had an emu and a shunter outside, inside there was a large collection of model railway items from Europe, including Britain.

It was at Chateau Smarod, south of Mumnkedal.  It closed in 2006 after a landslide caused a reconstruction of the E6 road, which now goes over the museum's site.  If you look for it on Google there are various links, including the former owner's blog.  It helps if you can read Swedish or German, though Google translate isn't too bad.

There is also a photo taken near Frandefors.

Enjoy finding the locations on a map!
