w124bob
Talking of smell, I spent many hours at the fueling point at Burton on Trent as young 2nd man. Drifting across the yard most days was the smell of beer, Robirch pies and Marmite, bliss!
JAMO
Great video and interesting operation. I think you can spend a lot of time switching your layout. And Alcos!!!!!!! I like! Edited March 10, 2016 by JAMO
w124bob
Just watched the video, great. Regarding the new sound file in your RS 11, can you give us a few details as it's the best RS11/251b I've heard in a long time.
Bagpuss
still working on which opp's system, car card /waybills or scenario cards or just swap one car for one of the same! Ray If recommend something other than just swapping cars for one of the same. It will effectively double the moves with the same number of cars if you spot one car and pick up another from a different spot. Nice video. Good use of 2 locos to get round the lack of a run round. It's what the real thing would do and it must increase the play value! Can you imagine trying to run like that without DCC?

Still very good, but I was expecting it to end with a nose-dive into the (static) grass - 'fade to black' (LOL).
long island jack
Finally finished weathering the layout freight cars, what else is there to do on a bank holiday (usually go to the pub ,but that's out ,still on the hospital run) I've take photos of them all, ready to stick on the front of my waybills, this is just to help my mate id different car types, he doesn't know a 50' box car from a 50' combination door boxcar, just got to get my head around car cards and waybills now!!! Where getting near to the end now, but still some small detail to add. Ray

RMweb Premium Gary H Posted March 26, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 26, 2016 Ray, what are those yellow things close to the rails at strategic points, do they represent de-railers per chance??
long island jack
Gary, there clearance markers, just done the between the track ones last night, company big on health and safety, got to keep the crews safe!! https://www.aldonco.com/store/p/808-Track-Clearance-Marker-Flush.aspx Ray
CourthsVeil
Well done, Ray. That's how I would like to see my own freight cars. Must try harder – a little bit at least Armin
long island jack
would help if i'd added the photo, there a tad larger than the real life ones, just to help my fellow operators to see where to spot cars, the gap between the ties in front of the marker has 2, 5 x 3mm neodymium magnets, you've got to concentrate when spotting cars,( should be fun at a exhibition when the crowds are asking questions, lol) they work well, odd coupler sticks some time, but think that's down to over weathering the coupler area(lesson leant). long island jack
made a start on car cards and waybills. most waybills will be 2 way, with a few 4 way type thrown in to add some variation, still working out which is best. Waybills will be coloured in the corner with car type( ie: 50'XM) to match the car card colours. car cards will be folded to make a pocket, with the picture of the freight car glued on the pocket (that's the plan), all will be laminated or covered with clear book covering. a little step closer Ray
shortliner
Ray - closer yet - do yourself a favour and order a couple of packs of these to hold your car cards and also the waybills - keeps them clean and easy to handle http://www.amazon.co.uk/Clear-Card-Select-Individual-Protectors/dp/B0012ZKJQW
long island jack
Cheers Jack but there to big, made my pockets 60mm wide, to big a job to alter them. As you can see there built into the front of the layout (less to forget when loading the car) the ones i'll use are 50 x 100mm. just another coat of paint on the front then I can add the labels, there's four pockets SET OUT ,HOLD, OFF SPOT and PICK UP, I hope it all works, will need a lot of play time to find out the pit falls.
