danstercivicman
This is one of the greats! Just one question, how do you work the bay platforms at the station? Does stock back into it or come across the up line?
Swindon 123
This is one of the greats! Just one question, how do you work the bay platforms at the station? Does stock back into it or come across the up line? The bay platform works much the same as the one at Hereford. Train arrives in the Up platform and de-trains passengers. Then shunts across to the bay platform via the trailing (facing for the shunt move) crossover at the Wolverhampton end of the station and reverses into the bay platform. It was the same at Hereford for the terminating Birmingham services in the old days, the only difference was the crossover was at the other end of the station, compared with Shenston Road. Paul J. Popular Post Swindon 123
Having slightly neglected this thread in 2017, I thought it about time to post something on here. So here goes. A look at some of the Shebston Road fleet from the lineside. First up Cl 08 D4118 brings a train of highfits down from the steelworks into Shenston Rd station. Running in numerical order, 25's 5176 + 5201 out early on a snowplough test run. D236 gets looped with a train of vanfits. D9 far from it's usual haunts on a train of coal, complete with a couple of brake tenders. Brake Tender B964109. One of a number of brake tenders scratch built by Greg a fair few years ago now, from drawings out of a BR diagram book. Brake Tender B964021. Another of the brake tenders scratch built by Greg a fair few years ago now, from drawings out of a BR diagram book. Class 47, 1665 heads a diverted Albion tanks towards Wolverhampton. That is all for now. More photos are in the pipeline, most probably featuring the growing collection of SLW 24's that Greg and myself have between us. Mrs Moderator, could we have a special comment option for Shenston Road please?
Wibble
D1057 Western Chieftain at Shenston Road - the latest loco into service, a Dapol Western depicted in a grotty early '70s guise, which didn't receive full yellow ends until 1972.
Wibble
Warship D847 Strongbow is another recent addition to the fleet. This time a Bachmann model adorned with its horizontal scrapes....... The Western Region seemed particularly skilled at customising their locos in this way!
RMweb Premium HillsideDepot Posted August 8, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 8, 2017 Great looking locos, great inspiration. Also, in the photo of D1057, I like the tea stains down the side of the RMB!
Ruston
II have only just found this. What a great layout; and the steelworks is excellent!
Popular Post Swindon 123
As Mr Wibble has beaten me to uploading some recent photos of Greg's latest efforts on the modelling front, and in my last post I did promise some Class 24 photos, I suppose I'd better post some. Having been suitably impressed by the Sutton Loco Works 24 model when it appeared, Greg decided to replace his Bachmann fleet and has been slowly going about this. I didn't have an active 24 fleet as such, so I have started from scratch with the SLW 24. Both my EIC fleet, and Greg's 24's feature in the photos below. Greg's D5087 is caught being looped with a mixed freight. From my EIC fleet, D5033 and 5000 on a train of empty bogie bolster E's. Fron the EIC fleet, 5025 is seen heading for Shenston Road with a mixed steel train. 5025 passes Warship, D815 on the stabling point at Shenston Road. Having runaround it's train in Shenston Road station, 5025 arrives in the steelworks exchange sidings. Having been paired tog ether, D5033 + D5087 wait to depart the steelworks exchange sidings with an empty coal train. Crewe style line up of 24's on Shenston road stabling point.5000, D5033, 5025, D5087. Hope you enjoy the selection. More photos to come with some mixed and exotic stuff possible. Paul J. Edited to add some additional wording which wouldn't originally load for some unknown reason. Edited August 9, 2017 by Swindon 123

Wibble
Hired in from the Hornsey fleet, BTH class 15s D8204 & 8228 head south at Shenston Road hauling a rake of Warflats carrying Saracens & Saladins, and about to pass class 16 number D8402 heading north with a mixed freight. Both the Shenston Road & Hornsey Bdy fleets have been recently bolstered with an influx of more type 1 motive power..... watch this space for further details!

Popular Post Swindon 123
Over the last few months Greg has been updating and detailing some of his stock, as well as some new locos. Here is a selection of them, plus some others. First up are some Lima Bogie Bolster 'E's that have had the underframes detailed some more and some new buffers & bogies fitted. BEV, B924162. BEV, B964150. A few more with BEV, B924102 nearest. On the loco front Cl 47, 1813 has been around for a while, seen here at the head of a mixed freight. However ex works Cl 08, 3306, being towed DIT is a recent loco. A de-motored Bachmann loco provides the basic model. Another recent loco that has not appeared before, (I think), but it looks nice enough to include again if it has, is Cl 37, 6970 on oil tanks. The most recent loco is D1057 "Western Chieftain", which appeared not long ago in one of Mr Wibbles posts. Since then Greg has found a better photo showing the decrepit condition of the loco, and has re-visited it. Here is the result. D1057 departing Shenston Road SP to replace a failure. Having taken over the train, D1057 departs Shenston Road for Wolverhampton. I hope you enjoy this glimpse into Greg's models. Hopefully some more will appear when I get time to photograph them. Fat Controller
Some lovely 'Bolster E' models there; brought back memories of seemingly-endless rakes heading across Old Castle crossing, Llanelli, en-route to Great Bridge. Do these use the Lima underframe, or the Cambrian one from the Turbot?
RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted September 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 2, 2017 Just for comparison. D1057. 81A. 11.4.71. Now the slapped wrist, it's bad enough being a middle wicket dodger, but, to be a "bolster E builders plate and label clip at the wrong ender" is just as bad. Sort it Greg! Mike.
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted September 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 2, 2017 Think you've just joined the middle wicket dodgers club Greg... Whatever it is allegedly I am the founder member.... Wrong end label clips or not, jealous of those bolster Es Phil
