  1. http://www.bimplus.co.uk/news/northern-arc-among-winners-hyperloop-one-global-ch/ It's more of possibility than people think.
  2. Got my copy at Smiths this morning in Newcastle

  4. I don't have a problem with 4.1.. My build is 4.1.206ss. I don't know if there has been a patch to solve the problem you refer to but this version has been the current on since December 17
  5. Those of you who having these faceting arc problems what version of Autocad is everyone using, I'm on 2016 currently.
  6. I use Autocad and I've never had to convert arc's into polylines before conversion into dxf and then opening the dxf in Studio 4.1. I save the DXF as a release R12 version which is probably overkill but it ensures compatibility with multiple different softwares.
  7. You could apply a coat of matt varnish on the paper (make sure to cover the edges). It would help to protect the paper when general cleaning and make them more durable.
  8. I use Humbrol's Clear fix or Revell's Contacta Clear. The first is like a gel, and will create little windows if you draw it across an opening with a cocktail stick, and it is useful for gap filling. The Revell product is like a liquid. I use that more for when fix aircraft canopies.
  9. At Newcastle Smiths this morning. The Tralee and Dingle looks lovely even if the picture quality is a little grainy.
  10. I don't whether this is relevant but I have a Potrait 2.
  11. My Studio software (which I downloaded at Christmas) is release 4.1.206ss
  12. Not overly surprised but that is a shame, look forward to Birtley every year.
  13. Upvc pipe, and yes it would look amazing Could line the pipe wall with this free download to start with http://www.kingswaymodels.com/K104.pdf, they've free wall tile download for the platform too. Sorry I'm hijacking the thread.
  14. In my chosen field if I chose to live in London I'd go contract and earn a least twice what I'm on now, still couldn't afford to live there.
  15. Arrived at Newcastle smiths this morning. Lovely modelling - showing it to my work colleagues and got plenty of gasps of amazement.
  16. As a proficient user of Autocad and Solidworks I'd suggest sub £25k. I'm paid the big bucks because of my experience in my sector, but looking at the job sites I think I would fetch that kind of money in a different sector (we're talking outside of London here). If they get someone with a love of trains they'll probably pay you less.
  17. A Portrait 2 arrived via Santa Claus from my parents. So starting reading the thread and Hurrah .. just finished reading the 88 pages of inspiring modelling and informative comments, plenty of do's and dont's. Just a quick note thank everybody who has contributed to the thread, no matter how small.
  18. I was at Birchwood yesterday and one diagram on the Liverpool Lime Street - Manchester Oxford Road local was a 156-142 combination with the 142 at the Liverpool end..
  19. I'm sure this is wrong, and I would never put myself up as an expert, but with about 10 drops of Vallejo Model Colour I use 1 drop of Winsor and Newton flow improver at about 20psi. Goes on lovely for me.
  20. Model Railway Journal every issue, though I have bought the occasional Hornby mag. Modern Railways, Railway Bylines and Classic Trains occasionally, MRI more often than not.
  21. My son bought me a 1.99 toy train set from Home Bargains last year, old time wild west loco, battery obviously 12mm plastic track roundy roundy. By the new year too much sherry has addled my brain and I had bought another four and I've now got a partially built rabbit warren layout with railcars of a sort of french theme chugging around. Such fun!
  22. Arrived in Smiths in Newcastle this morning
  23. I thought the scratchbuilt HR brake vans very inspiring, must have go. Loved Nettlebridge and the Taff Vale railmotor. And my current modelling is converting five little battery powered £1.99 toy train sets from Home Bargains into a south of France freelance rabbit warren layout. It'll look rubbish when I've done but I'm having such fun. Incidentally the solution to the silvering of the transfer film is to apply a gloss coat prior to the decals and then a matt varnish coat. This provides a super smooth surface to place the decals on. I also use a decal softener (Micro Sol) to ensure the decal settles around rivets and into seams. Not my ideas but what plastic kit models have been doing for a while. Incidentally kudos and support to Richard Ellis regarding his letter, his struggles and the help that his modelling has given him. As someone with a bipolar disorder I can concur with the benefits of a creative hobby doing the periods when the black dog comes a visiting and weighing you down.
  24. I took a 142 from York to Newcastle a number of years ago, early 2000's, so that's East Coast to Northallerton, Yarm, reverse at Middlesbrough, Durham Coast. It was listed on the departure board as the 14.30 to Heworth. Bombing up the East Coast at 75mph being overtaken at speed by everything still makes me smile. To go between Middlesbrough and York by Northern requires a trip via Barrow now. Hexham - Nunthorpe trains are a mix of 156's and 142's.
  25. If main line means Network Rail the curve between Sunderland and Park Lane stations must go some to take some beating - 180m (8.9 chains) radius.
