  1. Yes, I think that's what the OP is asking for, it's to drill out an axlebox to fit a 2mm brass bearing, I've fitted hundreds of them to Bachmann coaches and wagons due to the very sharp pinpoints of Gibson EM replacement wheelsets carving a trace up the plastic moulding. A truck tuner is a different thing used for cleaning out and restoring the plastic moulded bearing that pinpoint axles run in.
  2. Viaduct built for the EM Wharfeside project, based on Lobb Ghyll Viaduct in Wharfedale near Leeds. Advice taken years ago from 'Gravy Train' (Hi Ya) on using embossed plastic sheet of various scales for the piers, sides and parapets. Plywood frame with 3mm plastic sheet pinned on then clad in embossed stone from EMA (Plastruct) using limoline solvent glue. Copied from a Midland Railway drawing of Lobb Ghyll Viaduct. Scenic work is now progressing on the steep valley sides. Dave Franks.
  3. As many people seem to be cutting back on Christmas cards this year, we've received maybe half the number as last year I thought Lanarkshire Models could send all our customers and readers a sort of 'e'card so here it is. And a good New Year to one and all. Fiona and David Franks Lanarkshire Models and Supplies
  4. Well that sums them up doesn't it, BMW - Blxxdy Moron Within.... Yes I know, not all drivers are the same so apologies to the good ones.
  5. Yeah, our old Landrover has tyres marked 'M&S' and Fiona refers to them as ' Not just any old tyres but M&S tyres.... Fiona's small SUV has winter tyres and they've been great over the past week of pure ice on our roads. Somewhere we have photos of the Landie with some proper snow. ((M&S for the uninitiated is Mud & Snow)) Cheers and a Merry Christmas to all. David & Fiona.
  6. Two things, Most of the BMWs I saw today had faulty indicators!!!! 🤬 And, 4 wheel drive cars on summer tyres are no better than two wheel drive when skiding down the snowy road. 🤣 Just look for winter tyre tests vids that show even a two wheel drive car on winters can drive up a ski slope and a 4 wheel drive on summer tyres can't even go twenty feet!!! 😏
  7. LMS 60' Stanier Comp coach to match the Staniers they have already done, after all most trains had a Composite in the mix be it a three coach train or an express. Dave.
  8. My old Landrover has only done 91000 miles but it is 56 years old.... And is still mostly original mechanically. Dave.
  9. Well thanks Porcy, We do miss our get togethers in sunny Lincs and it was good to catch up briefly at Perth a few months ago. Say hello to all the guys down there for us. 🤣 Dave .
  10. I've added handrail wire to the clearance items, it is hard brass pin wire 0.45mm so perfect for the usual 4mm scale knobs, I've used it for years myself and it is used in the chassis kits too. Also, piercing saw blades have been added, high quality Swiss ones and also standard ones, various sizes but not many left and 22mm cutting discs with and without mandrel. As we are no longer attending shows we are selling off the items we had on the display table that were never on the website. Cheers, Dave.
  11. Once again it's been a while since I reported anything about Wharfeside. Well, all the wiring is finished and working, a slight short does show up in the fiddleyard when certain points are set and a certain section switch is set one way but in normal operation it is't a problem but I'm getting closer to tracing it. The viaduct is now fixed in position and the groundwork around the piers started. More locos converted to EM and a WD I built for someone else years ago then bought back has been overhauled, renumbered, AWS and electrification flashes removed and the paintwork touched up, it has been renumbered as 90464 a Carlisle loco so it can be used on through freights to Leeds. A Hornby Royal Scot has had cosmetic frames added and Sharman wheels fitted which only just fit between the splashers, a Mashima motor was fitted for better running, the Scot looks the part on the Thames/Clyde express, just needs the valvegear adding and some weathering. So there we are, I try to take some pictures next time I'm at the club. Dave.
  12. Whatever the sound is it's usually far too loud, as Tony has said try being beside a sound layout for two days. Turn it down guys and gals the other side of the hall doesn't need to hear it!!!!
  13. New loco buffer available now. LB19 - GWR Collett Parallel Loco buffer. 1’81/2” 16” head Typical Modern GWR Loco Buffer. Also used as a replacement on older locomotives. A very cruel picture but it shows the detail of the eight bolts on the flange. Also more stuff added to the Clearance lines Cheers, Dave Franks.
  14. Well hi Jason, nice to see you back. I think I've been suffering the same sort of mojo lack plus being too busy with work and other things, as for modelling, more like 'fiddling about' and not getting very far however I'm still going to the club to work on the layout with all the wiring done and trains being run but as I say not much getting done at home although some more locos have been converted to EM but I can't be arxed finishing them..... I'm not even on this place much these days and just happened to come across your post by chance. Buffers for that old wagon could be B034. All the best, Dave.
  15. Hi Barry, yes looks to be shaping up to a good show, we had a running session on Alloa last Wednesday just to check things over, no serious problems reported, the odd sticky point blade etc. We do feel though that Alloa is getting old now so this might be it's last 'away' show plus non of us are getting any younger.... We are booked for Model Rail Scotland next February with Alloa then maybe other layouts in the group would be ready the following year. Dave.
  16. Well, the new LSWR bufferstop has gone down very well, I had to do a second batch on Friday so thank you people, not bad for a bufferstop I had a few doubts about. Also, only a few clearance items left now so thanks again. Dave.
  17. Hi, have had a mad rush for the clearance items on the website this morning so some items are already sold out, must have been too cheap.... I'll keep monitoring sales to keep it up to date. Also forgot to say we now have oil of the type used on Portescap motor/gearbox units, yes the red stuff, works well with Highlevel gearboxes too been using it myself and it seems to quieten down gears. Dave
  18. Hooray.... NEW LSWR bufferstops are up on the website at last, took a wee while to get the website to load up, an update we didn't know about apparently. Link to BS27 page:- http://www.lanarkshiremodels.co/lanarkshiremodelsandsupplieswebsite_251.htm Also check out the 'CLEARANCE' items, there may be a bargain you've been looking for. If you have us in favourites you may need to update our address:- http://www.lanarkshiremodels.com Cheers all, Dave.
  19. Then there were the locos which had 18'' buffer heads instead of the more usual 16'', Fowler 3mt tanks, Ivatt 2mt tanks, Ivatt 2mt tender locos and Royal Scots though the latter two only the front ones, some were replaced over the years with standard 16'' heads.
  20. Having spoken to a few small traders recently I hear that sales are down and what sales there are might be less in value, a couple of sole traders have said now is the time to retire from the model railway business. Our sales went crazy during lockdown then slowly returned to pre-covid levels earlier this year then since the Russian invasion of Ukraine things have got a bit quieter. What I do not know though is what price the next batch of casting metal is going to cost let alone the electricity to melt it.... Dave.
  21. Our new Bufferstop LSWR BS27 has been cast and trial built so here are some quick photos. Detail was difficult to see on some photos then I got a copy of an 1894 LSWR drawing so I was able to add the correct details of the fixings.. Also available as an option is the stop with buffers fitted as per the drawing. I could also supply a later replacement plain bufferbeam with square ends or different loco buffers on request. Dave.
  22. Been a long time since I was on here it seems, things have been very hectic with Lanarkshire Models these past two years however, the good news is I've managed to complete the masters for an LSWR standard bufferstop. At last! I hear someone say.... I was fortunate to have obtained a copy of an 1894 LSWR drawing which showed details which couldn'd be made out from photographs so the complicated brackets holding the beam in place have been replicated accordingly. The drawing shows old loco buffers fitted for bay platforms but the bufferstop will be available without or as an option. Pictures of the masters for the mould held together with 'Bluetac' And with loco buffers. Also I've been working on a GWR Collett parallel loco buffer which should go into the same mould to multiply up for a production mould. Cheers, Dave Franks
  23. It looks very much like a DJH 9F fret. The 9F was 5'5' centres and the rods were split into three parts with the top left being axles 1-2-3, top right axles 3-4 and middle right axles 4-5. The DJH fret was also stretched slightly to give more room for the brakes and Romford flanges. Not a bad representation but the coupling rods can do with 'beefing up'.
  24. Sometimes at exhibitions there can be a cacophony of sound from various layouts all placed together and if one is demo-ing amongst that lot it can be very wearing. Sorry about my flipant remark but quite a few people feel the same.
  25. Keep it low as everyone else is fed up of noisy layouts.....
