  1. Hi Paul, can I suggest the Lanarkshire Models BP02 for the Prestwin wagons:- http://www.lanarkshiremodels.com/lanarkshiremodelsandsupplieswebsite_158.htm Cheers, Dave Franks
  2. Hi Peoples, just a wee note to say we are still here and still very busy getting orders out. Thanks to everyone who has continued to model during this difficult time and I hope modelling has helped you to see it though the lockdowns especially if you live alone. It has been a difficult year for us too as I'm in the 'very vunerable group' due to a long standing lung condition (COPD) which means I shouldn't mix with people so even if exhibitions did happen I couldn't attend. Lets hope 2021 is a better year for all of us and we can get back to meeting up for some craic. All the best, David and Fiona Franks And, thanks for all the Christmas cards and sorry we don't have addresses to return the favour.
  3. Didn't realise there were unread posts on this thread, I do apologise. Anyway, finally got the website to upload, there had been a problem with the host saying our account was out of date to which I countered but we're still being billed for the website, oh they said.... Eventually they sent a patch and a new pass code number and we've spent all afternoon trying to get it all to work, it did work eventually through Opera but wouldn't work on Firefox until we deleted our cache/history and uploaded again then all of a sudden it was there, way hey. So, the Stanier 3P tank boiler fittings for the Judith Edge kit are now on the website in the 'miscellaneous' section. The LMS home page is showing November 2020 date, if you don't get the right page with a link or favourites then use the address www.lanarkshiremodels.com and save that as there may be a couple of ghost pages still around. Cheers all Dave Franks

So if it's okay with Mike I've put the Stanier 3P tank boiler fittings I've made for the Judith Edge kit on the website in the miscellaneous section. 5. Brass wheel bearings in coaches. I had experienced the drifting axle holes in Bachmann bogies too, with at least one coach having the wheel flange rubbing on the coach floor making it 'heavy' to haul but now with all my Mark 1 coaches fitted with brass bearings plus a few others the Bachmann Jubilee can 'walk away' with thirty coaches, all that were available on the day, admittedly none are metal but all the same the EMed but otherwise unmodified Jub performed perfectly. 6. Hi Sandra, I have the J52 I built to shunt the yard if you wish that back on Retford, It's been serviced and is ready to re-enter service, It's actually a bit of a stranger on my layout Wharfeside so it may as well move back to Retford. I don't know if you remember me, I'm one of the 'Scots Gits' as Roy christened us and I usually worked the Babworth box when I could get down from Glasgow. All the best to you and Retford. Dave Franks.
  7. Hi, sorry for the late reply, I'm just so busy at the moment, no time for railway modelling at all. Thanks for the comments. Yes it is my own layout but I have space in our clubrooms to work on it. The minerals train is the little party piece for visitors, not normally 60 wagons but two 30 wagon trains. All wagons have three link couplings and the ends have Jackson couplings for the locos and guardsvans. The wheels are all modern Gibsons and have been reset to 16.65mm B2B to suit my tightened up pointwork which have 0.9 flangeways. It all seems to work with very few derailments. Cheers, Dave Franks
  8. Hi all, just a 'heads up' for our new but still under construction club website. https://scrsg.wordpress.com/ The Scottish Region Study Group website covers the following layouts ;- Alloa, Larbert (under construction), Wharfeside, Edinburgh Princes Street, Saxlingham and other layouts being built at home. New photos are being taken and stories written. Dave Franks
  9. Railway folk songs by Dave Goulder an ex fireman. Dave Franks
  10. Is it 4mm you are modelling? See, http://www.lanarkshiremodels.com/lanarkshiremodelsandsupplieswebsite_128.htm And, http://www.lanarkshiremodels.com/lanarkshiremodelsandsupplieswebsite_140.htm Dave.
  11. Hi Mike, thanks for that. Hi Blandford, for the beading I used this:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jewelers-Brass-Half-Round-Wire-Soft-NuGold-/321668789727 Unfortunately they don't seem to have the one I got a while ago, it was 24 gauge and about 0.5 x 0.2mm but another guy building a 3P is using 22 gauge which is only slightly heavier. It is very soft and can be shaped easily to follow curves round the cab etc. It may have a coating being for jewellery so I do a quick rub with fine emery on the flat side and it solders fine. No more progress on the 3P for now as I'm so busy casting more stuff for you guys and gals. Dave.
  12. Hopefully it might not be too long till you get the etches for the 3P Roger and just to tickle your tastebuds here is what I've managed so far. The blue/black mark on the boiler is from annealing the metal for rolling on the electric cooker ring for a few minutes, it will polish off no problem. I've added a few details of my own like the cab bunker details, the washout plugs and the half round beading. I'm enjoying the challenge and things have gone okay so far. Dave.
  13. Any one else think this might not be a Proscale kit? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/383504658846?ul_noapp=true I mean look at all the detail.... That's missing. The poor castings and just look at the tender front.... It's got to be an old Jamison kit hasn't it. Dave.
  14. Well it's like this Mark, the Landie is slowly coming together again but the refitting of the peddle boxes is held up by not being able to access the thin foam gasket material to seal the joint on the footwell as it's up at the club. The new master cylinders are fitted and the peddleboxes have been built back up and painted, the footwell has been cleaned down and repainted where the brake fluid had leaked.... Got the wing off ready to refit everything and pipe it up then we'll have brakes again. New fuel tank to paint and fit, radiator to refit and we might be able to start it. Doesn't sound much does it, business is very busy at the moment so the loco build which is for me is happening in the evenings. Dave Franks
  15. Hi all, that picture of the bunker looked really grubby and I've looked at it again and can see silvery marks, it seems to be water marks from when I washed the flux off, other parts done previously look okay so I don't know the reason the camera picked it up so badly, looks okay now the bunker is attached to the footplate and washed again. Hey Ho. Dave.
  16. Hi Jamie, well I did say 'mostly oldyins' and I still cringe thinking of that phonecall on my birthday when you announced you were exactly half my age..... The Stanier tank is for the off peak trains running with two or three non corridors, the teatime train with the Fairburn tank is the one that has three or more coaches plus parcel van which then passes back through Wharfeside with the van heading for the Red Star parcels depot at Otley and returns to Ilkley later and forms the return train to Leeds. If we ever get back to the club we can practice it. All the best, Dave.
  17. Been a long time since Christmas and then what happens, we all get locked in.... Model Rail Scotland in February was good and the group layout 'Alloa' ran well but we as a group being mostly oldyins were absolutely knackered and now wonder how much longer we can go on with a big layout. So, the 'lock down', I hope everyone is behaving themselves and keeping safe, me? I got a letter from the NHS Scotland saying I'm confined to barracks due to health issues. A project I'd been hoping to get going with is a Judith Edge LMS Stanier 3P tank for Wharfeside and I'm spending my evenings building that after work whilst madam is fighting with a jigsaw puzzle that's fighting back, not her usual 2/3 day job this one, too many blue sky bits. Anyway here is the progress so far. It is really a scratch builder's aid type of kit as you are left to add details and castings of your choice plus with no instructions one has to know the loco or have plenty photos. I was wondering about the layout of the cab rear till a photo turned up showing a cut up loco and the cab and bunker lying on the ground, ideal to get some details made up that can be seen in the cab. As for Wharfeside itself the fiddleyard control panels have ground to a halt as I need more wood to complete the frames, the facia in aluminium laminate has been marked off for cutting but I'll wait till the wood arrives before mistakes are made. All the best, And keep safe. Dave Franks.
  18. Hi all, just to say thanks to all the customers and I hope you're all keeping busy and not just staring out the window. Later today I'll be posting a pile of orders so if you're needing something and we've got the stuff it can be posted otherwise it will be next week before I'm allowed out again.... All the best and keep safe. Dave Franks
  19. Thanks Duncan for putting these pictures up on Flicker, it also makes clearer the differences not yet mentioned, the first picture 40165 and others show the fact that more than couple had Fowler pony wheels as opposed to Stanier and mostly on the front truck though a couple had them on the rear too or only.... A few locos pictured still had the larger buffer heads fitted, check 40202 18'' against the standard 16'' on 40085. I thought later builds had16'' heads though. A number of other locos had 18'' buffer heads when built, Ivatt class 2 tanks though Ivatt 2-6-0 and Royal Scots on the front only, Fowler 3Ps and a few odd other locos. Like the 3P with the BR oval buffers further down the page as well.... Dave Franks.
  20. Pretty sure it's an Ultrascale nickel silver wheel to me, not a bush in the centre, they all have that look. Dave Franks
  21. Looks like the springs are 'blocked' to stop them collapsing and probably why the thing is off the rails in the shed yard. Dave.
  22. Tony G. You are too modest, post your pictures and be damned. Some of the detractors on here have never picked up a scalpel. All the best, Dave Franks See you sometime next year....
  23. Thanks guys, I'll try to get some things finished to show I can still do it. Dave Franks.
  24. I agree, just had a call from the Asthma nurse that oversees my COPD condition and I've been advised to stay at home for the duration so not really a change there then as I work from home anyway. Anyway, everyone keep safe and WASH YER HANDS. Dave Franks
  25. Hi all, just had a call from the Asthma nurse that oversees my COPD condition and I've been advised to stay at home for the duration so not really a change there then as I work from home anyway. Occasional visits to the post office would be okay with care so orders can be posted but, only once a week instead of most days..... Good stocks of everything as I was re-stocking for Scalefour North so no problem there. Anyway, everyone keep safe and WASH YER HANDS. Dave Franks www.lanarkshiremodels.com
