  1. Popped into Antic's warehouse shop last night (conveniently located all of 5 minutes walk from my work...) to grab a (00) Christmas prezzie, they had a plain green one in their display cabinet. I have to say that, good as it looks in the photos, it's even better in the plastic. Lovely looking thing- with the exception of the rods looking a little bling perhaps (about the easiest thing possible to sort!) it looks spot on. No, I'm not tempted. Honest...
  2. Hmm, youngsters crashing cars, that's a little bit too close to home for this time of year thankyou very much! For the record, for it to be most effective it should be your young lady's pride and joy that you wrap around a signpost. It tends to result in a slight ticking off (& a very expensive Christmas), which serves to dampen any further ideas of exuberant driving in 2 seater convertibles. Not least 'cos she won't let me drive the new one As for observing of operations & the like, no ta! I consider myself to have a scientific mind but it's definitely more inclined towards physics than biology, or to put it another way when faced with too much of said biology I tend to turn a funny colour and have to leave the room
  3. Has bought another Marina. This is getting silly (and has blown the modelling budget for the forseeable future)

I had a Marina Estate back in 1977. Best car I'd ever had up until then so that says something....I now have a beige Marina Saloon, in 1:76, on my layout during 70s era running. That doesn't work either!

My estate (bought because it was cheap!) got the ball rolling. I "fixed" the handling with a set of slotmags (mmm, 70's) and it's been a brilliant workhorse and refuses to die. It's being treated to a full restoration this year.

  4. Snap- in fact I've driven past it on the "main" road many times, completely oblivious. Will have to go investigate now- cheers Captain K!
  5. S'got wasp stripes and everything! I've been very tempted with this, but I think I've decided that, since I've no use for a 70's Austerity on my 00 layout, I may well get an 0 gauge one instead which can be useless in a manner that will look much better on the mantlepiece. I might change my mind yet though... Mind you, if we're going with Austerities to match Laura's hair I need a red one currently; would end up with quite a fleet though! Have a blue one, Hornby LMR Anywhichway- well done to both RMWeb (well, Andy!) and Dave for putting this cunning plan together- regardless of if I buy one or not, I'm really looking forward to seeing the outcome
  6. I don't know your tastes as well as I thought I did Mister Neil- I reckoned you'd be a dead cert for this one! Fussy old git
  7. Another cry for Industrials here I'm afraid! I think I put something very similar in Ixion's "what next" thread that was partially responsible for the Fowler mind... A decent "Austerity", especially with industrial user modifications as opposed to a J94 or a WD machine, is fantastic & to be honest that in itself is quite enough to put a big grin on my face. Bachmann's effort in 0 was fairly dissapointing, the Hornby/ Dapol 00 offering is good for it's age but not as good as it could be, so thumbs up all round there. But... I still think there's an opening for a little outside cylinder 0-4-0ST, one of the standard designs that could be seen nearly anywhere. Ixion seems to have got the "twee" end covered with the Hudswell, the Austerity has got the other extreme nicely wrapped up, but something in the middle would be lovely- and I think popular in both 00 and 0. With one flavour of Andrew Barclay is available as a beginner's kit in both 00 and 0 I'd avoid that one, but any mid sized Peckett, Bagnall (if I had to pick one, Hawarden please but she's a bit of a big beastie really!) or RS&H would do the trick. Thanks for not only allowing us the opportunity to wish away, but for actually reading them too...!
  8. On the contrary Dave, I'm very glad I sold it to you. You've done a cracking job of it, you've done it far more credit than I could have done You've even painted it in a pretty similar colour scheme to the one I had in mind!
  9. MOT failure list not nearly as long as anticipated. No fails on corrosion, not bad for BL's finest...

'74 Marina estate. Somewhat dog eared- and didn't start first time! Was running fine last night, no such luck this morning. Jumped OK off the Swedebarge though ('88 Volvo 240, my "sensible" car). What have you got SHMD?

    3. SHMD

      SHMD

a 2000 ford fester. It failed its MOT on wipers and brakes. The brake pipe burst during the MOT!

Ooops- that'd be a "vehicle dangerous" sheet then, if they still do such a thing will the silly computerised system... Not a bad list considering though!

  10. Sat at home waiting for the new cooker to land- Parkside 16 tonner finished!

You're all heart Matt, getting Laura a new cooker - hope it's not for her birthday LOL!! NHN

      brianthesnail96

Ha, no. Valentines day perhaps? Maaaaybe not. It's arrived, fitted and even works! Old one died, it wasn't intentional decadence.

  11. Hmm, would appear Parkside's "suspension" is not enough to make up for my cack- handed kit building skills- flat it ain't!

  12. Off for a tour of Gloucester Brewery, down in the docks.

  13. Might be a couple of weeks before I get a chance to get over there (this is a rare day off work!) in daylight hours but I'll do my best. There's a decent res. picture of her on the following link- http://sandfordstation.co.uk/2011/03/the-sentinel-shunter/. Looking a little sorry for herself under the slapped on coat of paint.
  14. Not particuarly helpful, perhaps, but interesting nonetheless: http://www.flickr.com/photos/boxbrownie3/5438753087/ Picture found via http://www.flickr.com/search/?w=all&q=vallis+vale+frome&m=text which contains a few more- although I'm not a Sentinel expert so they may be the wrong type. If that is what you are looking for, one is "stuffed and mounted" not a million miles from me at Tytherington Quarry- I could potentially get some photos/ measurements if required.
  15. Replacement car sorted for the Mrs. Now to sort one for me, which should be easier. Then back to railways!

  16. Should really go register with the Quacks, so's I can book an appointment to get these stitches out. But it's raining...

Mission accomplished, without requiring a life raft. I did have to assure the receptionist that the injury was from the crash, not from the angry girlfriend when she found out...

  17. I've sent you a PM Wally- thank you very much- but can I also echo John's "yes please" for a pictureshow too!
  18. Thanks for the photos- always intended to explore this when I was down there- used to go over the Shapter's Way crossing quite often. Then one day it wasn't there any more Considering the amount of railway that used to be around the centre of Plymouth, there's not only much left but often very little sign it was ever there. I've only just managed to work out where Millbay was! Had heard it mentioned but never thought to look, turns out it was where I sat my finals... Took me a while to work out I lived within what would have been earshot of Friary as well!
  19. Might have written the girlfriend's car off a little bit. Wasn't on the Christmas eve to- do list.

  20. Sentinel-tastic; and in a Plymouth livery as well. That's changed the O gauge plans...

  21. Oops. Dapol 0 gauge wagon sat on the shelf. Looks lonely without an engine...

The well tanks are lovely (and a fantastic price) but they are a bit specific for me. Do keep looking at the Ixion Hudswell Clarke that's sat in the display cabinet of my nearest model shop. Would like to be brave and try a kit, some of the Connessieur ones do look promising.

  22. Lots of lovely 0 gauge stuff at Thornbury, with a strong local group presence. Very tempted to investigate further...

Sorry Mister Neil. It's great though, you don't have to do it in the rain!

  23. CH boiler more broken than thought. Modelling fund likely to suffer as a result. Harrumph.

  24. House tidying- can think of things I'd rather be doing with a day off...

  25. TOPS coded "Toad". That'll teach me to impulse buy...
