It's 10PM and so far today we've used £4.89 of electricity. That's cooking all meals on electric plus the computer on all day with two 32" monitors. The computer is in the garden office which is heated by electric and it's been cold today.

I doubt you could do anything more than isolate the sections so that only the impacted one comes down. There are probably many engineering reasons why even that is impractical.
I loved tennis at school. The courts were by the road and the school was on a hill so you could wap the ball over the fence and down the road, then spent the rest of the games lesson 'finding it'.

If you look on YouTube for things like ‘supercar fails’ you’ll come across people binning Ferraris pulling away from traffic lights. All the gear and no idea etc.
IIRC the Soviets built DC3 aircraft under licence. The US design was in imperial units, but the Soviet one had to be built using metal stock in metric thicknesses etc. Cue lots and lots of design tweaks.
